Dissolution Mod 1.12.2, 1.11.2 is a mod aiming at completely remake the Minecraft vanilla death experience, by adding new mechanics, such as player souls and possession for example.

Dissolution Mod

When you die, your soul leaves your body. In this state, you can’t interact with the world around you, nor can the world interact with you as well, although there are still some interactions that were deliberately conserved, such as the ability to flip levers and open doors (boohoo scary ghosts!). In this state, you will have to recover a body, in order to continue playing like before. To help achieve that goal, it is important to note you were given additional movement while in soul state: you can fly, glide, and possess the ability to go through transparent or non-full blocks.

Dissolution bases itself around the State of Soul core mechanic. States of Soul (often abbreviated “SoS”) define how you will be able to recover a body, and therefore how to exit this ethereal state of yours. There is currently only one SoS (excluding no SoS), but more will be added in future versions of the mod. Here are the SoS currently in the mod:

  • No State of Soul: If you wish to avoid the mod’s death system, you can always choose to have no SoS. This will block the mod’s death mechanics and instead leave the vanilla death just for you. However, please note that with this SoS, you are unable to see player souls, nor use various Dissolution mechanics, such as the ability to heal from faeries.
  • Strong Soul: The Strong Soul SoS allows you to possess undead mobs in order to regain a body. You will benefit the mob’s characteristics (no food bar, no undead attacking you, wither effect on hit if you are a Wither skeleton, slowness arrows if you are a Stray, etc…), but be careful, as you will also acquire their weaknesses (mob’s speed, no sprint, burning in the sunlight, etc…).

Features:

  • Dissolution: is a mechanic overhaul mod created by the two Ladysnake members Pyrofab (code) and River Leviathan (lead designing and art), formerly known as CobraDarkPoney. It improves Minecraft’s existing death mechanic by allowing the player to move around after death in an incorporeal state (unable to interact with anything) and gradually losing experience while dead instead of starting back at 0 experience levels.
  • Faerie: The Faerie is a passive entity added by Dissolution. It appears in forest type biomes. If the player is living, interacting with one by approaching it will result in it giving the player the Regeneration status effect. If the player is undead, this will trigger the Purification effect, a buff that gradually converts the player into a living being. After interacting with a player, a Faerie will become weak—in this state, they are unable to do anything, and will take the time to regain their abilities. The name of the Faerie in the French localization is féerie, which means something magical and ferric. It is therefore assumed that the entity is actually not a fairy, but something ferric with no real precise explanation of its nature.
  • Will o’ Wisp: The Will o’ Wisp (also known as Wisp or Ignis Faatus) is a passive entity added by Dissolution. It appears in swamp or magic type biomes at night.
  • Glass jars: Crafted with glass (duh), they are used to capture Faeries and Wisps. Once captured in it, they can be released by right-clicking with the jar.
  • Coffins: Decoration blocks that can be used by undead players to skip the day. They are like beds really, but for passing the day. Available in various style and materials, for rustic or classy vampires alike.
