What is Painter’s Flower Pot?

Vanilla Minecraft flower pots introduced a new aesthetic into the game that was both welcome and visually pleasing. With the good comes the bad, however – you can’t color them, you can’t plant other mods’ plants and saplings in them, and they’re just plain boring (but obviously within scope of the vanilla game)!

Would you like to plant almost any plant or leaf block in the flower pot? How about coloring the pot, or plating it in iron, gold, diamond or emerald? Are rainbow colors your thing? All these are now possible using this innovative, but simple, flower pot. In addition, the cactus rendering has been reimagined to incorporate a truer cactus-like look with spines.

To craft the Painter’s Flower Pot, you must first shape it using three clay in a crafting table as shown below.

Once you’ve created your Unfired Painter’s Flower Pot, the next step should be fairly straightforward – you must fire it in a furnace!

How to use:

You must place soil in the pot before you can plant anything. Place soil in the pot by right-clicking with a valid soil block. If the block is ground-type, sand-type, or grass-type, it will work.
Vanilla plants, including flowers, mushrooms, saplings, wild grasses, and cacti loosely follow vanilla planting rules. Cacti and dead bush must be planted in a material identified in the game as sand, mushrooms in mycelium (configurable), and everything else in dirt- , grass- or ground-type blocks.
Other plants and leaf blocks don’t carry planting requirements, except for soil must be present in the pot.
Vanilla wild grasses have a configurable color-override to provide a clean, green appearance regardless of biome (enabled by default).
The pots can be dyed by right-clicking on them with any of the sixteen available dye types. You can color the pot in rainbow colors by right-clicking it with a glistening melon. If you want the new Painter’s color, use an ender pearl.
The pots can be covered using almost any regular block, including mod blocks. Right click the pot with a block in hand, and if the block is a valid cover, the pot will be covered in that block’s texture.
A covered pot will retain it’s dye color underneath, but a pot cannot be dyed while it is covered. The cover must be removed to dye the pot. Or, remove the cover to restore the original dye color, or base flower pot texture.
The pots have a modular construction. Left click the pot to eject the plant, then the soil, and, if covered, the cover block. This process will strip the pot of all attributes except for the dye color.
Soil, plants, covers, and pot colors can be changed at any time. Replacing soil while a plant is present, however, will eject the existing plant from the pot.
When replacing the soil, plant, or cover, the existing attribute, if applicable, will eject from the pot for recovery.
