Extra Disks Mod Wiki

Extra Disks is a high-tier expansion for the Refined Storage mod that introduces massive item and fluid storage capacities, ranging from 256k to infinite storage solutions.

Overview#

Extra Disks is a specialized add-on for the Refined Storage mod, designed to solve the late-game storage limitations of standard systems. While base Refined Storage caps item storage at 64k and fluid storage at 4,096k, Extra Disks extends these tiers significantly. It introduces four new tiers of storage for both items and fluids, culminating in an Infinite Storage Disk that removes capacity limits entirely.

This mod is essential for players managing massive automated farms, quarry outputs, or extensive fluid production lines. It integrates seamlessly with existing Refined Storage networks, utilizing the same Disk Drives, Disk Manipulators, and Grids. All items and blocks added by the mod follow the aesthetic and progression logic of the parent mod, requiring high-tier materials like Nether Stars for the ultimate storage tiers.

Item Storage#

The mod adds five tiers of item storage components. Each tier consists of a Storage Part (the internal component), a Storage Disk (the part inside a housing for use in a Disk Drive), and a Storage Block (a standalone block for the network).

Item Storage Tiers

Tier Capacity (Items) Components Required
256k 256,000 3x 64k Item Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Quartz Enriched Iron
1024k 1,024,000 3x 256k Item Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Quartz Enriched Iron
4096k 4,096,000 3x 1024k Item Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Quartz Enriched Iron
16384k 16,384,000 3x 4096k Item Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Quartz Enriched Iron
Infinite Unlimited 3x 16384k Item Storage Part, 1x Withering Processor, 1x Nether Star, 1x Quartz Enriched Iron

Fluid Storage#

Fluid storage tiers in Extra Disks are designed to handle astronomical amounts of liquids, such as lava from the Nether or massive water reserves for cooling systems.

Fluid Storage Tiers

Tier Capacity (Buckets) Components Required
16,384k 16,384,000 mB 3x 4,096k Fluid Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Glass
65,536k 65,536,000 mB 3x 16,384k Fluid Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Glass
262,144k 262,144,000 mB 3x 65,536k Fluid Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Glass
1,048,576k 1,048,576,000 mB 3x 262,144k Fluid Storage Part, 1x Advanced Processor, 1x Redstone, 1x Glass
Infinite Unlimited 3x 1,048,576k Fluid Storage Part, 1x Withering Processor, 1x Nether Star, 1x Glass

Items & Components#

Beyond the disks themselves, the mod introduces a critical crafting component required for the highest tiers of storage.

Withering Processor

The Withering Processor is the pinnacle of processing power in Extra Disks. It is required to craft any Infinite Storage Part or Disk.

  • Raw Withering Processor: Crafted using 1x Nether Star, 1x Processor Binding, 1x Silicon, and 1x Redstone.
  • Withering Processor: Obtained by smelting the Raw Withering Processor in any furnace or Smelter.

Storage Housings

Extra Disks does not add its own housing; it uses the standard Storage Housing from Refined Storage. To create a disk, combine a Storage Part with a Storage Housing in a crafting grid.

Blocks#

For players who prefer physical blocks over disks in a drive, Extra Disks provides Storage Blocks for every tier. These blocks function identically to Refined Storage's base storage blocks but with the expanded capacities of the mod.

  • Item Storage Blocks: Crafted with the corresponding Item Storage Part, a Machine Casing, and Quartz Enriched Iron.
  • Fluid Storage Blocks: Crafted with the corresponding Fluid Storage Part, a Machine Casing, and Glass.

These blocks can be placed anywhere in the world and connected to the network via Cables. They are particularly useful for aesthetic purposes or for creating dedicated high-capacity sub-networks.

Mechanics & Usage#

Upgrading Disks

To upgrade a disk to the next tier, you must first empty it. Once empty, you can Shift + Right-Click the disk in your hand to disassemble it, returning the Storage Part and the Storage Housing. The part can then be used in the crafting recipe for the next tier.

Disk Manipulator Integration

Extra Disks are fully compatible with the Disk Manipulator. This is the recommended way to transfer items from smaller, older disks (like 64k) onto the newer, larger disks (like 1024k) without manually moving items through a Grid.

Power Consumption

As storage capacity increases, so does the energy (FE/t) required to maintain the disk in the network. Infinite disks have the highest power draw, reflecting their utility. It is recommended to have a stable power infrastructure (such as a large reactor or solar array) before transitioning to Infinite storage.

World Generation & Mobs

Extra Disks is a purely functional technical mod. It does not add any new mobs, creatures, biomes, dimensions, or structures to the game. All materials required for its recipes are either found in the base game (Nether Stars, Quartz, Redstone) or provided by the Refined Storage mod.

Recipes#

All recipes in Extra Disks are designed to be used with Auto-crafting. Due to the sheer volume of sub-components required for a 16384k or Infinite disk, manual crafting is highly discouraged.
