Overview#
Inventory Profiles Next (IPN) is a comprehensive, pure client-side mod designed to solve the chaos of inventory management. Unlike traditional sorting mods, IPN offers a deep suite of tools including intelligent sorting algorithms, automated tool and block replacement, and a robust 'Locked Slots' system that allows players to maintain specific inventory layouts even after sorting.
Because the mod is client-side, it functions on any server, even if the server does not have the mod installed. It integrates seamlessly with vanilla containers and most modded storage systems, adding intuitive GUI buttons and customizable hotkeys to the player's interface.
Core Mechanics#
The mod introduces several fundamental mechanics that change how players interact with their items:
Inventory Sorting
Sorting can be triggered via a hotkey (default R) or through GUI buttons. The mod supports multiple sorting modes:
- Standard Sort: Organizes items based on category, ID, or name.
- Sort by Column: Arranges items vertically.
- Sort by Row: Arranges items horizontally.
Item Moving and Dumping
IPN provides specialized buttons in container interfaces (Chests, Barrels, Shulker Boxes) to move items rapidly:
- Move Matching Items: Scans the target container and moves only the items from your inventory that are already present in that container. This is ideal for quickly emptying a mining haul into specific organized chests.
- Move All Items: Transfers the entire inventory (excluding locked slots) into the container.
- Throw All Items: Drops all items from the inventory onto the ground with a single click.
Mass Crafting
By holding Shift + Alt while clicking the result slot in a crafting table, the mod will automatically pull resources from your inventory to craft as many of that item as possible in a single operation.
Auto-Refill System#
The Auto-Refill system ensures that your workflow is never interrupted by broken tools or empty item stacks.
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Tool Replacement | Automatically replaces a tool in your hand with an identical or similar tool from your inventory before it breaks. |
| Block Refill | When a stack of blocks in your hand is exhausted, it is immediately replaced by another stack of the same block from your inventory. |
| Durability Threshold | Configurable setting to swap tools at a specific durability percentage to prevent accidental breakage of valuable enchanted gear. |
| Food & Potion Refill | Automatically restocks consumables to your hotbar as you use them. |
| Loyalty Support | Intelligent enough to recognize Loyalty-enchanted Tridents, preventing them from being replaced while they are in flight. |
Locked Slots#
Locked Slots are a signature feature of IPN, allowing players to 'pin' items to specific locations in their inventory or hotbar.
- How to Lock: Hold
AltandLeft Clickon any slot in your inventory. A visual indicator (usually a colored border) will appear. - Sorting Immunity: Locked slots are completely ignored by the sorting algorithm. If you lock your sword to the first slot and your food to the ninth, they will stay there regardless of how many times you sort.
- Empty Locking: You can lock an empty slot. This prevents the game from placing any picked-up items into that specific slot, ensuring it remains open for future use.
- Blacklist/Whitelist: Advanced configuration allows you to specify which items are allowed to enter specific locked slots.
Profiles and Gear Sets#
Profiles allow you to save and load specific inventory configurations. This is particularly useful for switching between different gameplay roles, such as 'Building', 'Combat', or 'Mining'.
- Saving a Profile: Arrange your hotbar and armor as desired, then press
R + Pwhile the inventory is open. - Loading a Profile: Profiles can be activated via hotkeys to instantly pull the required items from your main inventory into your hotbar and armor slots.
- Custom Rules: Advanced users can edit the
profiles.jsonfile to create complex rules, such as 'Always put the best Silk Touch pickaxe in slot 2'.
Controls and Keybinds#
All keybinds are fully customizable within the Minecraft Controls menu or the mod's internal configuration screen.
| Action | Default Keybind |
|---|---|
| Sort Inventory | R |
| Open Config Menu | R + C |
| Save Profile | R + P |
| Lock/Unlock Slot | Alt + Left Click |
| Move All Items | T (Configurable) |
| Throw All Items | M (Configurable) |
| Mass Crafting | Shift + Alt + Click |
Configuration#
The configuration menu, accessed via R + C, is divided into several categories for fine-tuning the experience:
- Mod Settings: Enable or disable core features like Auto-Refill and Locked Slots.
- GUI Settings: Customize the appearance and position of the sorting buttons in various inventory screens. You can hide buttons for specific containers if they overlap with other modded interfaces.
- Hotkeys: Rebind every action the mod performs.
- Auto-Refill: Adjust durability thresholds and specific item blacklists for the replenishment system.
- Locked Slots: Toggle visual indicators and behavior for item pickup into locked areas.

World Elements#
As a client-side utility mod, Inventory Profiles Next does not add new mobs, creatures, blocks, biomes, or structures to the Minecraft world. It is designed to interact with and manage the existing items and blocks provided by vanilla Minecraft and other installed mods. It does not change game balance or mechanics on the server side, ensuring compatibility with all multiplayer environments.
