Ceramic Shears is a utility mod that expands the early-game toolset by allowing players to create shears using clay and a furnace rather than requiring iron ingots. This mod is particularly useful in survival scenarios where iron is scarce or reserved for higher-tier equipment. The ceramic shears function identically to vanilla iron shears but possess a lower durability rating, specifically 75% of the standard iron version.

The mod introduces a multi-step crafting process involving the creation of unfired clay parts, smelting them into ceramic components, and finally assembling the tool. It supports all standard vanilla shear interactions, including mob shearing and block harvesting.

The mod adds three distinct items to the game, representing the stages of production from raw clay to a finished tool.

Crafting Ceramic Shears is a three-step process. First, the parts must be shaped, then fired, and finally assembled.

Crafting: Clay Shears Part

To create the initial parts, place two clay balls diagonally in a crafting grid. Each craft yields two Clay Shears Parts.

Smelting: Ceramic Shears Part

The unfired clay parts must be hardened in a furnace or blast furnace to become usable components.

Assembly: Ceramic Shears

Once you have two Ceramic Shears Parts, they can be crafted into the final tool using a diagonal pattern similar to the vanilla iron shears recipe.

Ceramic Shears are designed to be a direct replacement for iron shears. They can be enchanted with Efficiency, Silk Touch, Unbreaking, and Mending using an anvil and enchanted books.

Statistics

• Default Durability: 179 (75% of the 238 durability found in iron shears).
• Harvesting Speed: Identical to vanilla iron shears.

Supported Interactions

Ceramic Shears support the following vanilla behaviors:

• Mob Shearing:
  • Sheep: Shearing sheep to obtain wool.
  • Mooshrooms: Shearing a Mooshroom to obtain mushrooms and transform it into a standard Cow.
  • Snow Golems: Removing the pumpkin head from a Snow Golem.
• Plant Harvesting:
  • Harvesting Leaves, Cobwebs, Tall Grass, Seagrass, and Ferns (both 1-block and 2-block high variants).
  • Harvesting Dead Bushes and Vines.
• Functional Interactions:
  • Tripwires: Cutting a tripwire connected to a tripwire hook without triggering the redstone signal.
  • Pumpkins: Carving a pumpkin to create a Carved Pumpkin.
  • Beehives/Bee Nests: Harvesting Honeycomb from a hive or nest at honey level 5.

The mod includes a server-side configuration file that allows administrators to adjust the tool's balance. This file is located within the serverconfig directory of each world save.

Config Options

To apply changes, the server must be restarted or the world reloaded after editing the configuration file.
