Overview#
Quark is a comprehensive content mod for Minecraft Java Edition designed to enhance the base game under a strict philosophy: every feature added must feel as though it could belong in the default game. The mod is named after the subatomic particle because it is composed of many small, independent features that collectively create a significantly enriched experience.
One of Quark's defining characteristics is its modularity. Every single feature can be toggled or configured via an in-game menu (accessible via a 'q' button on the main menu). The mod is divided into several categories: Automation, Building, Client, Management, Mobs, Tools, Tweaks, and World.
Automation#
Quark introduces several redstone-compatible blocks and mechanics to streamline technical builds and item management.
Key Automation Blocks
| Block | Function | Crafting Key Ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Chute | Drops items precisely in the center of the block below it. Can be disabled with redstone. | Iron Ingots, Planks |
| Ender Watcher | Emits a redstone signal when a player looks directly at it. | Eye of Ender, Obsidian, Redstone |
| Feeding Trough | Automatically breeds animals when filled with appropriate food. | Planks, Fence Gates |
| Iron Rod | When pushed by a piston, it acts as a drill, breaking the block in front of it. | Iron Ingots, End Rod |
| Gravisand | Sand that only falls when powered by redstone; if it cannot fall, it floats upward. | Sand, Ender Pearl |
| Weather Sensor | Emits a signal during rain or snow. | Purpur, Glass, Obsidian/Biotite |
Advanced Mechanics
- Pistons Move Tile Entities: Pistons can now move blocks that store data, such as Chests, Furnaces, Hoppers, and Brewing Stands. If a block is moved to an invalid position, it will break and drop its contents.
- Chains Connect Blocks: Chains can link blocks together. When a piston moves a block attached to a chain, the chain will pull the connected block along with it.
- Dispensers Place Blocks: Dispensers are upgraded to place most standard blocks in front of them, including crops like Wheat Seeds and Potatoes.
- Color Slime Blocks: Slime blocks can be dyed. Different colors of slime blocks will not stick to each other, allowing for more compact and complex flying machines.
Building Blocks#
Quark adds a massive variety of aesthetic blocks, focusing on consistency with vanilla palettes.
New Block Variants
- Vertical Slabs: Created by placing three slabs in a vertical column. Available for all vanilla and Quark materials.
- Vertical Planks: A vertical texture variant for all wood types.
- Hedges: Fence-like blocks made from logs and leaves that connect to each other.
- Shingles: Terracotta-based roofing blocks available in all 16 colors, including slab and stair variants.
- Thatch: Crafted from Wheat, providing a rustic roofing option.
- Midori Blocks: A green counterpart to Purpur, crafted using Moss Paste.
Specialized Palettes
- Industrial Palette: Includes Iron Plates, Rusty Iron Plates, Iron Ladders, and Iron Grates. Iron Grates allow items to fall through but prevent animals from crossing.
- Japanese Palette: Features Paper Walls (Shoji), Paper Lanterns (Chochin), and Bamboo Mats (Tatami).
- Corundum: Translucent, colorful crystals found in underground geodes. They emit light and can be used to color beacon beams.
Functional Building
- Variant Chests & Bookshelves: Chests and Bookshelves now use the texture of the wood they are crafted from (Oak, Spruce, Birch, Jungle, Acacia, Dark Oak, Mangrove, Cherry, Bamboo).
- Hollow Logs: Logs that can be climbed like ladders or crawled through.
- Glass Item Frames: Transparent frames that make the item appear as if it is sitting directly on the block surface. Banners placed in these frames act as wallpaper.

Mobs#
Quark adds several unique entities that inhabit specific biomes or cave layers.
| Mob | Spawn Location | Drops | Behavior |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stoneling | Underground (Deepslate layers) | Diamonds, Heart of Diamond, various ores | Shy creatures that carry items. They vanish if they see a player unless the player is sneaking or wearing a Cloak. |
| Crab | Beaches | Crab Shell | Neutral mobs that walk sideways. Their shells can be used to brew Potions of Resilience. |
| Forgotten | Deep Caves | Bones, Arrows, Forgotten Hat | A powerful skeleton variant that spawns in the deepest parts of the world. |
| Toretoise | Underground | Ores (Coal, Iron, Gold, etc.) | Turtles with ore deposits on their backs. Right-clicking with a pickaxe harvests the ore but damages the mob. |
| Foxhound | Nether (Soul Sand Valleys) | Coal, Fire Charge | Tameable with Coals. Once tamed, they act as a portable furnace, speeding up nearby smelting. |
| Wraith | Nether (Soul Sand Valleys) | Soul Bead | Flying hostile spirits that inflict the Curse of Binding or Vanishing. |

World Generation#
The world is populated with new geological features and flora to encourage exploration.
Underground Features
- Crystal Caves: Rare caverns filled with glowing Corundum crystals.
- Glimmering Weald: A deep-dark-adjacent biome filled with glowing mushrooms and Myalite stone.
- Speleothems: Stalactites and stalagmites made of various stone types (Stone, Granite, Diorite, Andesite).
- New Stone Types: Limestone, Shale, and Jasper spawn in large clusters, providing new building materials.
- Biotite: An "Ender Ore" found in the End after the Dragon is defeated. Used for advanced redstone components.
Surface Features
- Blossom Trees: Trees with vibrant leaves (Pink, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Lavender) that drop petals. Found in various temperate biomes.
- Fairy Rings: Circular formations of mushrooms or flowers that sometimes indicate buried treasure.
- Spiral Spires: Tall obsidian and Myalite towers found in the outer End islands.
Tools and Management#
Essential Tools
- Trowel: A tool that picks a random block from your hotbar to place. Ideal for creating randomized paths or walls.
- Abacus: Used to measure the distance between two blocks. Right-click one block and then another to see the block count.
- Seed Pouch: Stores up to 10 stacks of a single type of seed and plants them in a 3x3 area.
- Backpack: An equippable item that provides extra inventory rows. It can be dyed and placed on the ground.
- Slime in a Bucket: A bucketed slime that starts jumping when the player enters a Slime Chunk.
Inventory Management
- Inventory Sorting: Buttons in the player and chest inventories to sort items by ID, name, or quantity.
- Chest Searching: A search bar in chest interfaces that highlights matching items and dims others.
- Quick Deposit: A button to quickly move items from your inventory into a chest if the chest already contains those items.

Tweaks and Mechanics#
Quark includes hundreds of minor adjustments to vanilla mechanics.
- Reacharound Placing: Allows players to place blocks on the side of the block they are standing on, even if they can't see the face (similar to Bedrock Edition).
- Double Door Opening: Opening one door will automatically open the adjacent door.
- Automatic Recipe Unlock: All recipes are unlocked in the recipe book as soon as you start the world.
- Armed Armor Stands: Armor stands can be posed and given arms by right-clicking them with sticks.
- Villagers Follow Emeralds: Villagers will follow players holding Emerald Blocks, similar to how cows follow wheat.
- Hoe Harvesting: Hoes can harvest crops in a 3x3 area (Diamond/Netherite) or 1x1 area, automatically replanting them if seeds are available.
- Map Markers: Right-clicking a map on a banner adds a marker to the map with the banner's name and color.

Client Features#
Visual and UI enhancements that do not affect server-side gameplay.
- Camera Mode: A dedicated screenshot mode (F12) with filters, depth of field, and composition grids.
- Improved Tooltips: Tooltips now show food values (hunger/saturation), shulker box contents, map previews, and enchantment descriptions.
- Usage Ticker: A small UI element that shows how many items are left in a stack or the remaining durability of a tool when used.
- Greener Grass: A configuration option to make grass colors more vibrant, similar to the Alpha/Beta versions of Minecraft.
- Auto-Walk: A toggleable keybind that allows the player to walk forward automatically.
