Overview#
Silent Gear is a spiritual successor to tools mods like Tinker's Construct, but with a focus on data-driven customization and versatility. Instead of fixed recipes, players use Blueprints and Templates to craft gear from nearly any material in the game, including those added by other mods. The mod features a deep progression system involving material grading, alloy forging, and specialized machinery to push gear stats to their absolute limits.
Key features include:
- Modular Construction: Tools and armor are built from multiple parts (Main, Rod, Binding, etc.), each contributing to the final stats.
- Material Diversity: Supports vanilla materials, mod-specific ores like Crimson Iron and Azure Silver, and custom materials via data packs.
- Grading System: Materials can be analyzed and graded to improve their base stats.
- Synergy: Mixing different materials can provide bonuses or penalties based on how well they complement each other.
- Repair System: Gear is permanent and can be repaired using Repair Kits or specialized blocks.
Getting Started#
To begin your journey with Silent Gear, you will need to acquire Blueprints. Players often spawn with a Blueprint Package, which can be opened to receive a basic set of blueprints (Pickaxe, Shovel, Axe, and Sword).
The First Steps
- Craft a Blueprint Paper: Use paper and blue dye to create the base for your blueprints.
- Create Templates: Templates are single-use versions of blueprints made from wood or cobblestone. They are useful for early-game gear but are consumed upon use.
- Craft a Stone Anvil: This block is essential for early-game part assembly. It allows you to craft gear parts without a standard crafting table by using a hammer-like tool or simply clicking.
- Gather Materials: Start with basic vanilla materials like Wood, Stone, or Iron. Note that every material has unique stats (Durability, Mining Speed, Attack Damage) and Traits.
Gear Classes and Types#
Silent Gear categorizes equipment into several classes. Each item requires a specific set of parts to craft.
Tools
| Tool Type | Primary Function | Required Parts |
|---|---|---|
| Pickaxe | Mining stone/ores | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Shovel | Digging dirt/sand | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Axe | Chopping wood | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Mattock | Shovel/Axe hybrid | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Prospector Hammer | Finding ores | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Sickle | Harvesting crops/leaves | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Shears | Clipping sheep/leaves | Main, Binding |
Weapons
| Weapon Type | Combat Style | Required Parts |
|---|---|---|
| Sword | Standard melee | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Dagger | Fast, low reach | Main, Rod |
| Katana | High speed, combo-oriented | Main, Rod, Binding, Grip |
| Machete | High damage, clears plants | Main, Rod, Binding |
| Bow | Ranged combat | Main, Bowstring |
| Crossbow | Heavy ranged | Main, Bowstring, Stock |
Armor
Armor consists of four standard pieces: Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, and Boots. Each piece requires a 'Main' part (plates) and can be enhanced with 'Linings' for additional protection or utility traits.
Parts and Construction#
Gear is composed of several part types, each influencing specific stats:
- Main Part: Determines the base durability, harvest level, and primary damage/speed stats. (e.g., Pickaxe Head, Sword Blade).
- Rod/Handle: Modifies durability and attack speed. Higher-tier rods provide multipliers to the base stats.
- Binding: Primarily affects durability and can add specific utility traits.
- Grip: Added to weapons like Katanas to improve handling and reduce recoil.
- Tip: An optional upgrade (like a Diamond Tip) that increases harvest level and adds a small durability bonus.
- Coating: A late-game upgrade that applies a thin layer of high-tier material (like Netherite) over the gear to boost stats without replacing the core material.
Materials and Ores#
Silent Gear introduces several unique materials found in the world or created through metallurgy.
World-Gen Ores
- Bort: A type of industrial diamond found deep underground. Used for high-tier tools and as a catalyst in grading.
- Crimson Iron: Found in the Nether. It is the base for Crimson Steel.
- Azure Silver: Found in the End. It is the base for Azure Silver alloys.
Advanced Alloys
| Alloy | Ingredients | Properties |
|---|---|---|
| Crimson Steel | Crimson Iron + Magma Cream + Gold | High durability, fire resistance, high damage. |
| Azure Silver | Azure Silver + End Pearl + Lapis | Extremely high mining speed, magic-friendly. |
| Tyrian Steel | Crimson Steel + Azure Silver + Nether Star | The ultimate material. Unmatched stats in all categories. |
Material Stats
Materials are defined by several key attributes:
- Durability: How many uses the tool has.
- Harvest Level: What blocks it can mine (0=Wood, 4=Netherite, etc.).
- Mining Speed: How fast it breaks blocks.
- Attack Damage: Base damage dealt to mobs.
- Magic Damage: Damage dealt via magical traits.
- Rarity: Affects the quality of enchantments and grading success.
Mechanics: Grading and Synergy#
Material Grading
The Material Grader (formerly Part Analyzer) is used to improve the quality of raw materials. By consuming a catalyst (like Glossy Dust or Bort), the grader assigns a rank to the material:
- Ranks: E, D, C, B, A, S, SS, SSS.
- Higher ranks provide a percentage boost to all stats of that material. An SSS-grade Iron ingot is significantly more powerful than a standard one.
Synergy
When mixing different materials in a single gear piece (e.g., a Pickaxe with an Iron head and a Copper binding), the Synergy stat comes into play.
- High synergy provides a bonus to all stats.
- Low synergy (caused by clashing materials) can penalize stats.
- Synergy is calculated based on the compatibility of the materials used.
Specialized Blocks#
Stone Anvil
A primitive workstation used to craft gear parts. It does not require a GUI; players can place materials on it and use a Hammer to craft.
Salvager
The Salvager allows players to break down gear (including vanilla gear and loot) back into its component materials. This is an excellent way to recover rare metals from damaged equipment found in chests.
Starlight Charger
A high-tier block that uses the power of the stars to infuse materials with additional energy, significantly boosting their stats beyond normal grading limits.
Paint Mixer
Allows players to create custom Paint, which can be applied to gear to change its color without affecting its stats. This is purely cosmetic but allows for deep personalization.
Traits#
Traits are special properties inherent to materials. When a tool is crafted, it inherits the traits of its components.
- Malleable: Increases the effectiveness of repairs.
- Brittle: Increases damage taken when durability is low.
- Sharp: Increases attack damage but reduces durability slightly.
- Fireproof: Prevents the item from burning in lava (standard on Crimson Steel).
- Magnetic: Pulls dropped items toward the player.
- Holy: Deals bonus damage to undead mobs.
- Lustrous: Increases the chance of better enchantments.
Repairing and Maintenance#
Silent Gear equipment does not disappear when it reaches 0 durability; instead, it becomes "Broken" and unusable until repaired.
- Quick Repair: Place the tool in a crafting grid with its primary material.
- Repair Kits: These items (Small, Medium, Large) can store repair materials. Using a Repair Kit on a tool in the crafting grid allows for more efficient repairs and can be done on the go.
- Anvil Repair: Standard anvil repairing works but is often more expensive in terms of XP than using the mod's dedicated systems.
Commands#
The mod provides several administrative commands for testing and troubleshooting:
/sgear_admin stats: Displays the internal stats of the item currently held in hand./sgear_admin materials: Lists all loaded materials and their properties./sgear_admin traits: Lists all available traits./sgear_admin clean_gear: Removes invalid data from a gear item (useful if a mod update changes data structures).
