Overview#

The ChocoCraft mod enriches the game world by adding Chocobos, which are large, rideable bird-like creatures. These creatures, inspired by the Final Fantasy series, can be tamed, bred, ridden, and even flown. The mod introduces a variety of Chocobo types, each with unique attributes, as well as several new items essential for their care, breeding, and utility.

Players can encounter Chocobos in the wild, tame them using specific items, and then utilize them for transportation, exploration, and even combat. The mod also features a comprehensive in-game guide, the Chocopedia, to assist players in managing their Chocobo companions.

Mobs#

Chocobo

Chocobos are the primary creatures added by the ChocoCraft mod. They are large, rideable birds that can be found in various colors, each possessing distinct stats and abilities. Chocobos can be tamed, bred, and ridden, offering players a unique form of transportation and companionship.

Appearance: Chocobos come in a spectrum of colors, including Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Black, Gold, Pink, Red, and Purple.

Spawning: Wild Chocobos can be found naturally in the world.

Behavior: Wild Chocobos can be tamed by feeding them Gysahl Greens. Once tamed, they can be ridden after being equipped with a Chocobo Saddle. Tamed Chocobos will occasionally drop Chocobo Feathers.

Taming: To tame a wild Chocobo, feed it Gysahl Greens.

Breeding: Tamed male and female Chocobos can be bred by using a Loverly Gysahl on them. This will cause them to lay an egg, which must be placed in a nest to hatch a Chicobo. Chicobos are the juvenile form of Chocobos and will eventually grow into adult Chocobos. Chicobos are born wild and must be tamed. Offspring can inherit attributes and stats from their parents and may mutate into new colors. Using a Golden Gysahl during breeding increases the chances of acquiring new Chocobo types. Dyes can also be used on certain Chocobos to change their color.

Leveling and Abilities: Tamed Chocobos gain experience points as the player does. After accumulating enough experience, a Chocobo can level up and acquire new abilities. Abilities have a slight chance (2%) to be inherited per breed, but players can also use the Chocopedia to convert their own experience into Chocobo abilities.

Known Abilities:

  • Flight: Allows the Chocobo to fly. Activated by pressing Shift+Spacebar. Flying Chocobos are immune to fall damage.
  • Water Walk: Allows the Chocobo to walk across water.
  • Fast Terrain: Increases movement speed over various terrains.
  • Lava Immunity: Makes the Chocobo resistant to fire and able to walk on lava.

Chocobo Types and Attributes:

Color Speed Climb (blocks) Walk Special Abilities Breeding Combination Health
Yellow Normal 1 Overworld 30
Green Normal 2 Yellow + Yellow 30
Blue Normal 1 Water Water Breathing Yellow + Yellow 30
White Fast 2 Water Jumping (4 blocks high) Green + Blue 40
Black Fast 2 Water Jumping, Night Vision Yellow + White 40
Gold Fastest 2 Water Flight Blue + White 50
Pink Fastest 2 Water Flight Green + Pink Gysahl 50
Red Fastest 2 Water Flight Green + Red Gysahl 50
Purple Fast 2 Lava Flight, Lava Resistance Pink + Yellow

Note: 'Climb' indicates the number of blocks a Chocobo can ascend without jumping. 'Walk' indicates the liquid or terrain type the Chocobo can traverse. Jumping Chocobos can reach ledges up to 4 blocks high. Flying Chocobos are immune to fall damage. Lava-walking Chocobos are resistant to fire.

Chicobo

Chicobos are the juvenile form of Chocobos. They hatch from eggs laid by breeding adult Chocobos. Chicobos are born wild and must be tamed before they can be ridden or leveled. They will eventually grow into full-sized Chocobos.

Items#

The ChocoCraft mod introduces several new items crucial for interacting with Chocobos and managing their care.

  • Gysahl Greens

The most fundamental item in ChocoCraft. Gysahl Greens are used to tame wild Chocobos and are a key ingredient in crafting other specialized greens. They grow randomly across the map and can be harvested and replanted. Feeding Gysahl Greens to a tamed Chocobo restores 10 health.

  • Gysahl Seeds

Obtained from Gysahl Greens, these seeds can be planted in tilled earth to cultivate a Gysahl Green farm.

  • Loverly Gysahl

A special domestic mutation of Gysahl Greens that does not appear in the wild. It can grow from Gysahl Seeds planted in tilled earth. Loverly Gysahls are used to initiate breeding between two tamed Chocobos.

  • Golden Gysahl

Similar to Loverly Gysahls, this is a domestic mutation of Gysahl Greens. Golden Gysahls are used in breeding and are known to increase the chances of acquiring new Chocobo types.

  • Pink Gysahl

A synthetic gysahl known to cause extreme effects on Chocobos.

  • Red Gysahl

Another synthetic gysahl that causes extreme effects on Chocobos.

  • Raw Chocobo Leg

A piece of meat dropped by Chocobos. It can be cooked in a furnace.

  • Cooked Chocobo Leg

The cooked version of a Raw Chocobo Leg. It reduces famine more effectively than cooked chicken and provides as much sustenance as a cooked pork chop.

  • Raw Gysahl Pickles

The initial step towards creating Gysahl Pickles.

  • Gysahl Pickles

Cooked Raw Gysahl Pickles. They reduce famine and are described as marvelous.

  • Gysahl Cake

A treat for Chicobos that combines Gysahl Greens and cake. Feeding a Gysahl Cake to a Chicobo will instantly make it grow into an adult Chocobo.

  • Chocobo Feather

An attractive item to Chocobos, occasionally dropped by tamed ones. Used in crafting saddles, whistles, and special gysahls.

  • Chocobo Saddle

Required to ride a tamed Chocobo.

  • Chocobo Saddle Bags

Equips a saddled Chocobo with storage capacity. Accessed by shift-right-clicking the Chocobo.

  • Chocobo Pack Bags

Provides additional transport and storage capacities for tamed Chocobos. Accessed by shift-right-clicking the Chocobo.

  • Chocobo Whistle

An item with no current function, but intended for future use to call the last ridden Chocobo to the player's position.

  • Chocopedia

A valuable guidebook that provides information about both Chocobos and Chicobos, including how to care for them. Right-clicking with a Chocopedia in hand opens the guide. When used on a tamed Chocobo, it allows players to name the Chocobo, change its movement settings, check its health and breeding status, show its gender, make it drop gear, show or hide its name, and view its owner.

    • Properties: Not stackable, Utility type, Craftable.
    • Obtaining: Can be dropped by slain monsters (including Villagers) or found in Battle Towers. It can also be obtained by right-clicking a Chocobo (wild or tamed) with a Book and Quill.
    • Notes: Cannot be stored in Bibliocraft Bookcases. Its unstackable nature can cause inventory issues in mob farms. Does not display information for the Purple Chocobo.
  • Straw

Used as a cover for a Chocobo pen.

  • Chocodisguise Armor

    • Chocodisguise Helmet

    • Chocodisguise Body

    • Chocodisguise Legs

    • Chocodisguise Boots

    A set of armor items.

  • Purple Chocobo Egg

An egg specific to the Purple Chocobo.

Mechanics#

Taming

Wild Chocobos can be tamed by feeding them Gysahl Greens. Once tamed, they become loyal companions and can be ridden.

Riding

To ride a tamed Chocobo, it must first be equipped with a Chocobo Saddle. Once saddled, players can mount their Chocobo for faster travel and exploration.

Breeding

Breeding in ChocoCraft allows players to expand their Chocobo flock and potentially acquire new Chocobo types with enhanced abilities. To breed, use a Loverly Gysahl on two tamed Chocobos (one male, one female). They will then lay an egg, which needs to be placed in a nest to hatch a Chicobo. Chicobos inherit attributes and stats from their parents and can mutate into new colors. Using a Golden Gysahl during breeding increases the chances of obtaining new Chocobo types.

Leveling and Abilities

As a player gains experience, their tamed Chocobo also accumulates experience points. Upon reaching certain experience thresholds, Chocobos can level up and unlock new abilities such as Flight, Water Walk, Fast Terrain, and Lava Immunity. While abilities can be inherited during breeding with a small chance, players can also use the Chocopedia to convert their own experience into specific Chocobo abilities.

Storage

Chocobos can be equipped with Chocobo Saddle Bags or Chocobo Pack Bags to provide them with inventory space for transporting items. These bags can be accessed by shift-right-clicking the saddled Chocobo.

Bugs#

A known bug in the mod can occur if two Chocobos are left to breed and the chunk they are in is unloaded (e.g., by moving away from the area). This can result in the area being flooded with a massive number of Chocobos.
