Overview#

The Last Of Us Mod transforms Minecraft into a brutal post-apocalyptic survival experience. The mod introduces a dynamic infection system where the Cordyceps fungus spreads through the world, turning players, villagers, and animals into aggressive infected. Unlike standard zombies, these creatures evolve over time into more dangerous forms, requiring players to utilize stealth, specialized gear, and environmental tactics like fire to survive.

Key features include a multi-stage evolution system, a noise-based detection mechanic for blind infected, and the requirement of gas masks in spore-choked environments. The mod also adds various defensive blocks and military-grade equipment to help players fortify their positions against the ever-growing hordes.

Infected Mobs#

The infected are the primary antagonists of the mod, categorized by their stage of infection. Each stage has unique behaviors, stats, and weaknesses.

Stage One: Runners & Crawlers

Runners are the most common infected. They are fast, agile, and can break through wooden doors. If a Runner is killed, there is a 1/3 chance it will spawn a Crawler, a torso-only variant that continues to pursue the player at a slower speed.

Mob Health Behavior Drops
Runner 20 HP Fast movement, door breaking, can 'rush' players from 8+ blocks away. Rags, Rotten Flesh
Crawler 10 HP Slow, low profile, spawns upon Runner death. Rags
Infected Soldier 30 HP A Runner wearing remnants of military gear; higher armor. Kevlar Scraps, Rags

Stage Two: Stalkers

Stalkers represent the second stage of infection. They are far more intelligent than Runners, possessing 'farsight' that allows them to spot players from great distances. They prefer to hide behind corners and attack from the rear.

  • Behavior: Stalkers will actively try to flank the player and remain silent until they strike.
  • Evolution: Runners have a 50% chance to evolve into Stalkers after 3 minutes and 20 seconds (4000 ticks).

Stage Three: Clickers

Clickers are the most iconic and dangerous common infected. They are completely blind but have enhanced hearing.

  • Detection: If a player is not crouching (sneaking) within a certain radius of a Clicker for more than 3 seconds, the Clicker will enter an 'Aggressive' state and hunt the source of the noise.
  • Stats: High health (50 HP) and high melee damage. They are difficult to kill with basic melee weapons.
  • Drops: Cordyceps Plant, Fungal Growth.

Stage Four: Bloaters & Shamblers

These massive infected are the final stages of the common infection cycle.

  • Bloater: A tank-like mob that throws Noxious Sacks. These sacks deal high direct damage and release a cloud of toxic gas on impact.
  • Shambler: Instead of throwing sacks, Shamblers release a constant cloud of green noxious gas when near a player. This gas deals rapid damage and prevents natural health regeneration.
  • Weakness: Both Bloaters and Shamblers are highly flammable. Setting them on fire slows them down significantly and increases the damage they take from all sources.

Boss: The Rat King

The Rat King is an extremely rare boss-level infected found in specific structures. It has massive health and can slam players into the ground. Upon death, it splits into a Stalker, a Clicker, a Bloater, and two Runners, forcing the player to fight a mini-horde immediately after the boss fight.

Survival Mechanics#

Survival in this mod requires understanding the core systems that govern the world.

Infection & Evolution

Any non-infected mob (animals, villagers, players) killed by an infected has a high chance of rising as a Runner. Over time, these Runners evolve. The cycle follows: Runner → Stalker → Shambler. This ensures that the world becomes progressively more dangerous the longer a chunk remains loaded.

Noxious Gas & Spores

Certain areas and specific mobs (Shamblers/Bloaters) generate Noxious Gas.

  • Effect: Inhaling gas causes the 'Noxious Gas Inhaled' effect, which damages the player and disables regeneration.
  • Hordes: Inhaling gas has a 1/10 chance of triggering a horde spawn, where random infected appear in a 10-block radius every 40 ticks until the effect wears off.
  • Protection: Wearing a Gas Mask grants the 'Fungus Protection' effect, negating all gas-related damage and effects.

Stealth System

Stealth is mandatory when dealing with Clickers. Crouching reduces your noise level to zero, allowing you to bypass them. If you make noise (walking, running, jumping, or opening doors), Clickers will use echolocation to pinpoint your location.

Items & Equipment#

The mod adds a variety of items for crafting, defense, and survival.

Key Items

Item Source Usage
Rags Dropped by Runners Used in crafting Medkits and Gas Masks.
Kevlar Dropped by Infected Soldiers Used to craft high-tier armor.
Cordyceps Plant Dropped by Stalkers/Clickers Crafting ingredient for fungal gear.
Noxious Sack Dropped by Bloaters Can be used as a throwable weapon or crafting component.
Filter Crafted / Looted Required to maintain the Gas Mask's functionality.
Tempered Glass Crafted Used for the Gas Mask visor.

Equipment

  • Gas Mask: Provides a specialized overlay when worn. Protects against spores and noxious gas.
  • Fungal Armor: Crafted using Fungal Growth obtained from Clickers and Bloaters. It offers high durability and protection against physical attacks.
  • Machete & Rifle: Used by human NPCs (Soldiers) and can be looted or crafted to deal high damage to infected.

Blocks & World Generation#

The world is littered with remnants of civilization and the encroaching fungus.

Cordyceps Growth

Cordyceps Blocks and Cordyceps Plants spawn naturally on grass in infected zones. Stealing on these blocks deals damage over time and rapidly shreds the player's armor durability. They can spread if not cleared.

Defensive Blocks

Players can craft several blocks to fortify their bases:

  • Barricade Walls: High-resistance walls that are difficult for infected to break.
  • Barbed Wire: Slows down and damages any entity that passes through it.
  • Sand Bags: Used for quick cover and fortification.
  • Hesco Blocks: Military-grade barriers with extremely high blast resistance.

Structures

The mod adds several naturally generating structures containing high-tier loot:

  • Abandoned Houses & Tents: Common sources of Rags and basic supplies.
  • Radio Towers: Often contain communication equipment and high-vantage points.
  • Gun Stores: Rare structures containing firearms, ammunition, and Kevlar.

Crafting Recipes#

While many items are found through looting, essential survival gear must be crafted.

Gas Mask Recipe

To craft a Gas Mask, combine the following in a crafting table:

  • Top Row: Iron Ingot, Tempered Glass, Iron Ingot
  • Middle Row: Leather, Filter, Leather
  • Bottom Row: Wool, Wool, Wool

Fungal Armor

Fungal Armor pieces (Helmet, Chestplate, Leggings, Boots) are crafted using Fungal Growth in the standard armor patterns. This armor is specifically designed to resist the corrosive effects of Cordyceps blocks.

Barricades

  • Barbed Wire: Crafted using Iron Ingots and Iron Nuggets in a cross pattern.
  • Sand Bags: Crafted using Sand and Rags.
