Overview#

Silent's Gems (version 26.1.2 for Minecraft) is a massive expansion to the game's resource and equipment systems. Originally known for adding 48 gems, the modern version focuses on 16 core gemstones distributed across the Overworld, Nether, and End. These gems serve as the foundation for a modular equipment system (when paired with Silent Gear) and provide a vast palette of decorative blocks including bricks, lamps, and glass.

Beyond aesthetics, the mod introduces Chaos, a magical energy system used for teleportation and transmutation, and Soul Gems, which allow players to imbue their tools with the spirits of defeated mobs.

Gems and Ores#

The mod adds 16 gemstones, each categorized by a specific "Role" that determines its primary stat bonus when used in tool or armor construction. Ores can be found in all three vanilla dimensions.

Ore Generation

  • Overworld Gems: Typically spawn between Y levels -64 and 48. They are often biome-specific, meaning certain gems only appear in specific climates.
  • Nether Gems: Found throughout the Nether, often embedded in Netherrack. Black Diamonds are the rarest, spawning at lower altitudes.
  • End Gems: Found on the outer islands of the End. White Diamonds are found deep within the End stone islands.

Blocks#

Silent's Gems provides an extensive collection of building materials derived from its gemstones.

Decorative Blocks

Each of the 16 gems can be crafted into several block variants:

  • Gem Blocks: Solid blocks of the gemstone.
  • Bricks & Small Bricks: Classic building patterns.
  • Tiles: A clean, modern look for flooring.
  • Polished, Chiseled, and Smooth Stone: Refined variants for detailed architecture.
  • Gem Glass: Transparent blocks that retain the gem's color.

Functional Blocks

  • Lamps: Available in all 16 colors. They come in standard (on when powered) and inverted (off when powered) versions.
  • Teleporters: Large blocks used for long-distance travel. They require Chaos energy to function and can be linked using a Teleporter Linker.
  • Chaos Altar: A central hub for magical crafting. It is used to transmute items and charge Chaos-powered tools.
  • Pedestals: Used to display items. When an item is placed on a pedestal, it can interact with nearby Chaos Altars for specific recipes.

Items and Equipment#

While the mod integrates with Silent Gear for modular tools, it adds several standalone utility items.

Utility Items

  • Return Home Charm: A magical trinket that allows the player to teleport back to a bound location (usually a bed or a Teleporter Anchor) from any dimension. It consumes Chaos energy upon use.
  • Gem Bags: Portable storage containers that automatically collect gems and shards when they are mined, saving inventory space.
  • Flower Basket: Similar to Gem Bags, but specifically designed to collect and store flowers (including the mod's Glowroses).
  • Summon Kitty/Puppy: Consumable items that instantly spawn a tamed cat or dog. These can be named in an anvil before use.
  • Torch Bandolier: A high-capacity storage item that can hold up to 1,024 torches and automatically places them when the player right-clicks with the bandolier.

Crafting Materials

  • Gem Shards: Obtained by breaking down gems or as rare drops. Used for minor repairs and decorative crafting.
  • Chaos Essence: The physical manifestation of Chaos energy, used in high-tier crafting recipes.
  • Enchantment Tokens: Items that allow players to apply specific enchantments to tools without the randomness of an enchantment table. Each token requires specific materials (e.g., a Haste token requires gold and sugar).

Mechanics#

The Chaos System

Chaos is a form of energy that exists within the world. Players can monitor Chaos levels using a Chaos Meter.

  • Generation: Chaos can be generated using a Chaos Altar or collected from naturally occurring Chaos Nodes (in older versions) or specific events.
  • Usage: It powers Teleporters, the Return Home Charm, and special abilities on Supercharged tools.
  • Chaos Events: High levels of "dirty" or unstable Chaos in an area can trigger events such as Chaos Lightning, the spawning of Wisps, or the application of the "Chaos Sickness" debuff.

Soul Gems

When a mob is killed, there is a small chance it will drop a Soul Gem containing its essence.

  • Usage: Soul Gems are primarily used to create Gear Souls for the Silent Gear system. Imbuing a tool with a soul allows the tool to "level up" as it is used, gaining stat bonuses and unique traits based on the mob type (e.g., an Enderman soul might provide reach distance).
  • Soul Urns: A specialized storage block (similar to a Shulker Box) that can be upgraded using Soul Gems to increase its capacity or add unique functions.

Entities#

Chaos Wisps

Wisps are the primary mob added by Silent's Gems. They are flying, elemental spirits that spawn during Chaos events or in areas with high Chaos instability.

Wisp Type Behavior Drops
Fire Wisp Aggressive; shoots fireballs Blaze Powder, Chaos Shards
Water Wisp Neutral; splashes water Prismarine Crystals, Chaos Shards
Ice Wisp Aggressive; slows players Packed Ice, Chaos Shards
Lightning Wisp Aggressive; strikes lightning Glowstone Dust, Chaos Shards

Ender Slimes

Found rarely in the End dimension, these purple slimes behave similarly to vanilla slimes but can teleport short distances when attacked. They drop Ender Slimeballs, which are used in advanced teleportation recipes.

World Generation#

Glowroses

Glowroses are light-emitting flowers that spawn naturally in the Overworld. They come in 16 colors corresponding to the gems.

  • Properties: They provide a light level of 10 (15 if potted).
  • Usage: They can be crafted into dyes or used as a source of light that prevents mob spawns in a small radius.

Fluffy Puffs

Fluffy Puffs are cotton-like plants found in the Overworld.

  • Usage: They can be harvested to produce Fluffy Puff Seeds and Fluffy Fabric. The fabric is used to craft Fluffy Blocks (which negate fall damage) and the Gem Bag/Flower Basket.
