Overview#
Cozy Home fills the empty rooms of a Minecraft house with furniture people actually live with. It adds seating, tables and desks, kitchen counters, drawers and storage counters, sinks and bathtubs, wall mirrors, lamps, chimneys, fountains, telescopes, wall clocks and tall grandfather clocks.
Almost every piece exists in each of the common wood types, and the stone pieces exist in each of the common stone and mineral types, so the furniture can be matched to whatever the building is made of. Nothing needs a new material: everything is crafted from ordinary planks, slabs, wool and stone, so the furniture fits into a normal survival world.
Seating and cushions#
Chairs, sofas and couches are real seats. Right-click one and the player sits down on it, and sneak or move to stand back up. Sitting works on any of the seat types.
A cushion can be placed on a seat to change how it looks. Right-click a seat while holding a cushion and the cushion appears on the seat; the seat keeps it until it is broken. There are two kinds:
- Hay cushion — a straw-coloured pad with a woven texture.
- Cushion — a plain cushion that can be dyed. Right-click it with a dye while it is on the seat and it takes that colour, and dyes can be combined to mix new shades.
Sofas and couches themselves can also be dyed the same way, so a whole seating set can be brought to one colour scheme.
Tables, desks and counters#
Tables and desks are simple surfaces that join up when placed next to each other, so two or more blocks in a row read as one long table rather than several separate ones.
Counters work the same way and form a continuous worktop. Two counters do more than sit there:
- The storage counter opens its own inventory screen when right-clicked, and holds items like a chest. It also emits a redstone comparator signal based on how full it is.
- The drawer is a smaller container with the same behaviour, and plays an opening and closing sound.
Both drop their contents when broken, so nothing is lost by mistake.
Sinks, bathtubs and fountains#
Sinks and bathtubs really hold liquid rather than just looking like they do.
- Right-click with a water bucket or lava bucket to fill the block, and with an empty bucket to take the liquid back out.
- A water bottle fills the block one level at a time, which is useful when a full bucket is not available.
- The liquid is visible inside the block and is tinted to match the biome the block is standing in, the same way ordinary water is.
- A filled block gives off light when it holds lava.
A bathtub is two blocks long: place one, then place a second one beside it to complete the tub. Fountains and fountain spouts pour a visible stream that lands on whatever is underneath, and the stream changes depending on whether the fountain holds water or lava.
Clocks and the telescope#
Wall clocks hang on a wall and show the real in-game time, with the hour and minute hands moving through the day.
Grandfather clocks are three blocks tall and are placed as a single piece. The face shows the time in the same way, and a pendulum swings behind the glass door in the case below it, ticking as it passes the centre. At midnight the clock strikes, and the ominous variant plays a different sound. Clocks placed in the Nether behave oddly on purpose, with the hands drifting rather than keeping time.
The telescope is used at night: right-click it and it reports the current moon phase along with a short note about it. Using it during the day tells the player to come back after dark.
Lamps, mirrors and chimneys#
Lamps can be switched on and off and give off light when lit. They stack vertically, so a lamp placed under another one hangs from it and forms a taller fitting, and they can be dyed to change the colour of the shade.
Wall mirrors are placed flat against a wall and stack the same way, so two or more form one tall mirror. Right-clicking a mirror opens a view of the player's own character.
Chimneys stack upwards to make a flue of any height and puff smoke from the top when there is a fire below.
How pieces connect#
Several kinds of furniture look at their neighbours and change shape to fit:
- Counters, tables, desks and shelf tables join sideways into one continuous surface, and the ends are shaped differently from the middle sections.
- Sofas and couches join into longer seating, and couches form corner pieces when placed at an angle so an L-shaped seating arrangement reads correctly.
- Lamps, mirrors and chimneys join vertically.
- Bathtubs are always two blocks: a head and a foot.
Because the shape follows the neighbours, rearranging a room is just a matter of placing and breaking blocks — the pieces re-shape themselves.
Crafting#
Everything is crafted at a normal crafting table from materials that are already in the game.
- Wooden furniture uses the planks and slabs of the matching wood, so an oak chair is made from oak planks and oak slabs, a spruce chair from spruce, and so on.
- Stone furniture such as sinks, bathtubs and fountains uses the matching stone, brick or mineral blocks.
- Cushions are made from wool, and the hay cushion from hay.
Because each piece is tied to its own material, the recipe for a given wood or stone always produces the matching variant, and there is nothing to unlock before building.
