Overview#
The Caracal Mod is a creature-focused modification that adds the Caracal (Steppe Lynx) to the Savanna biomes of Minecraft. These medium-sized wild cats are known for their distinctive tufted ears and expressive personalities. Beyond being simple aesthetic additions, Caracals are fully interactive pets that can be tamed, bred, and customized with various secret skins. They feature custom animations, including a unique 'breakdancing' move when near music, and a behavior where they sleep alongside the player at night.
The Caracal#
The Caracal is the central mob of this mod. It is a neutral-to-passive mob that primarily inhabits warm climates.

Behavior
- Hunting: Wild Caracals are natural predators and will actively hunt Chickens and Rabbits.
- Neutrality: They are generally peaceful toward players unless attacked.
- Taming: Players can tame a Caracal by feeding it Raw Cod, Raw Salmon, Raw Chicken, or Raw Rabbit. Once tamed, they will follow the player and defend them from hostile threats.
- Sitting: Like wolves and cats, tamed Caracals can be ordered to sit by right-clicking them.
- Sleeping: If a tamed Caracal is not sitting, it will seek out the player's bed at night and lie on top of the player while they sleep.
- Dancing: If a Music Disc is played in a Jukebox near a Caracal, it will perform a special breakdancing animation.
Nametag Variants#
One of the mod's most popular features is the ability to change the Caracal's appearance using specific nametags. These names are case-insensitive and will apply a unique texture or accessory to the mob.

Note: To revert to the default look, the nametag must be removed or changed to a name not on this list.
Mechanics and Recipes#
Taming and Breeding
Caracals do not have complex crafting recipes, as they are entity-based. However, their interaction 'recipes' are as follows:
- Taming Recipe: Use Raw Cod, Raw Salmon, Raw Chicken, or Raw Rabbit on a wild Caracal until heart particles appear.
- Breeding Recipe: Feed two tamed adult Caracals any of the taming foods to produce a baby Caracal (kitten).
- Healing: Feeding a tamed Caracal raw meat or fish will restore its health.
Items
- Caracal Spawn Egg: Available in the Creative Mode inventory under the 'Spawn Eggs' tab. It allows players to instantly summon a Caracal in any biome.
