Overview#
Culinaire is a food and culture-focused mod that significantly expands the cooking mechanics in Minecraft. It introduces a variety of new crops, such as tomatoes and lettuce, and brings advanced crafting processes like tea brewing, milk coagulation, and chocolate making. The mod aims to make food preparation more immersive and rewarding, offering players unique effects through different tea blends and a wide array of composed meals like sandwiches, salads, and specialty pastries.
Key features include:
- New Crops: Cultivate tomatoes and lettuce to use in various recipes.
- Tea Brewing: Craft kettles and brew tea bags with various ingredients to gain unique status effects.
- Milk Coagulation: Transform milk into cheese wheels using a cauldron.
- Chocolate Making: Mix cocoa, sugar, and milk to create chocolate bars and bottles.
- Composed Meals: Prepare complex dishes like sandwiches, salads, and a variety of pies.
Crops and Farming#
Culinaire adds two primary crops that can be farmed and used as base ingredients for many of the mod's advanced food items.
Tomato
Tomatoes are grown from Tomato Seeds. They can be found by breaking grass or obtained through trading. Once fully grown, they can be harvested and used in salads, sandwiches, and soups.
Lettuce
Lettuce is grown from Lettuce Seeds. Similar to tomatoes, these seeds can be found in the wild. Lettuce is a staple ingredient for most sandwich and salad recipes added by the mod.
Blocks#
The mod introduces specialized blocks to facilitate its unique cooking mechanics.
| Block | Description |
|---|---|
| Kettle | A functional block used for brewing tea. It must be placed over a heat source (such as a Campfire, Fire, or Magma Block) to function. |
| Cauldron (Enhanced) | While the vanilla cauldron is used, Culinaire adds new interactions, allowing players to pour milk into it for coagulation or mix ingredients for chocolate. |
Items#
Culinaire adds a vast array of food items, ranging from raw ingredients to complex pastries.
Tea Components
- Tea Bag: Crafted using 1 Paper, 1 String, and various ingredients (flowers, leaves, or berries). The ingredients determine the final effect of the tea.
- Tea Bottle: The final product of the brewing process. Drinking it provides the effect associated with the tea bag used.
Dairy and Sweets
- Cheese Wheel: Created through milk coagulation in a cauldron. It can be placed like a cake and eaten in slices.
- Milk Bottle: Obtained by right-clicking a cow with a glass bottle, or by taking milk from a cauldron.
- Chocolate Bar: Available in Dark, Milk, and White varieties. Made by mixing cocoa beans, sugar, and milk in a cauldron.
- Marshmallows: Sweet treats that can be eaten raw or cooked.
- Marshmallow on a Stick: A marshmallow attached to a stick, ready to be roasted over a campfire.
Composed Meals
- Sandwiches: High-saturation meals made by combining bread with meats and vegetables.
- Salads: Healthy alternatives made in bowls using lettuce, tomatoes, and other vegetables.
- Pies: New pie variants including Apple Pie, Sweet Berry Pie, and three types of Chocolate Pie (Dark, Milk, White).
- Chouquettes: Small French pastry puffs sprinkled with pearl sugar.
Mechanics#
Tea Brewing
To brew tea, players must first craft a Kettle and place it over a heat source.
- Fill the Kettle with water (using a water bucket or right-clicking a water source).
- Add a Glass Bottle and a Tea Bag to the Kettle's interface.
- Wait for the brewing process to complete. The speed of brewing depends on the intensity of the heat source below.
- Each tea bag ingredient provides a different effect, such as Speed, Regeneration, or unique buffs like increased saturation from food.
Milk Coagulation
Cheese is made through a passive process called coagulation:
- Fill a Cauldron with milk (using three milk buckets or bottles).
- Wait for a period of time. The milk will slowly change texture as it coagulates.
- Once the process is finished, right-click the cauldron to collect a Cheese Wheel.
Chocolate Making
Chocolate is produced by mixing ingredients in a cauldron:
- Fill a cauldron with milk.
- Add Cocoa Beans and Sugar to the milk.
- The mixture will transform into liquid chocolate, which can then be bottled or solidified into Chocolate Bars.
Marshmallow Roasting
Players can roast marshmallows for better stats:
- Craft a Marshmallow on a Stick.
- Hold the item and stand near a Campfire.
- The marshmallow will slowly change color. If timed correctly, it becomes a perfectly roasted marshmallow. If left too long, it will turn into a Burnt Marshmallow.
Recipes#
While many recipes are dynamic (like tea bags and sandwiches), the following are standard crafting recipes:
| Result | Ingredients | Pattern |
|---|---|---|
| Kettle | 4 Copper Ingots, 2 Sticks | 4 Copper in a 'U' shape, sticks on top corners |
| Tea Bag | 1 Paper, 1 String, 1 Ingredient | Shapeless |
| Marshmallow | 2 Sugar, 1 Egg, 1 Slimeball | Shapeless |
| Chouquettes | 2 Wheat, 1 Sugar, 1 Egg | Shapeless |
| Apple Pie | 3 Wheat, 2 Apples, 1 Sugar | Similar to Pumpkin Pie |
Note: Sandwich and Salad recipes are highly customizable and can be viewed in-game using recipe viewer mods like REI.
Configuration#
Culinaire includes a configuration file that allows server owners and players to tweak various settings:
- Milk Bucket Consumption: Option to disable the ability to drink milk directly from buckets, encouraging the use of milk bottles.
- Compostability: Many of the new food items and crop byproducts can be added to the vanilla Composter.
- Brewing Speed: The time required for the kettle to produce tea can be adjusted.
