Overview#
Eating Animation is a lightweight, purely visual enhancement that brings food and drinks to life. Whenever you eat or drink an item, the model held in your hand plays a short, frame-by-frame animation instead of staying perfectly still, so meals feel much more satisfying.
The mod adds no new items, blocks, or recipes and does not change any gameplay values such as hunger, saturation, or potion effects. It only changes how the held item looks while it is being consumed.
How It Works#
When you start eating or drinking, the game tracks how far along the action is. Eating Animation uses that progress to swap the held item through a short sequence of "bite" frames:
- At the start, you see the normal, whole item.
- As you keep eating, the item visibly shrinks and looks bitten, cycling through several frames.
- Drinks such as potions and milk buckets tilt and empty as they are consumed.
Everything is driven by the item's use progress, so the animation stays perfectly in sync with the vanilla eating and drinking timing. Nothing needs to be configured — just hold a food or drink and use it as normal.
Vanilla Food & Drink Support#
The animation works out of the box with every vanilla food and drink, including:
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Common food | Apple, Bread, Carrot, Potato, Cookie |
| Cooked meat | Steak, Cooked Porkchop, Cooked Chicken, Cooked Mutton |
| Special food | Golden Apple, Enchanted Golden Apple, Golden Carrot |
| Drinks | Potions, Milk Bucket, Honey Bottle |
Because the effect is based on the general "using an item" action, any future vanilla food or drink is handled automatically as well.
Modded Food Support#
Eating Animation ships with built-in support for a wide range of popular food-adding mods, so their custom dishes animate just like vanilla food. Support is bundled for foods from mods such as Farmer's Delight, Create, Expanded Delight, Better Nether, and many more.
If you have one of these mods installed, its foods will simply start animating — there is nothing extra to enable.
Tips#
- The effect is client-side only. You can use it on any world or server without the server needing the mod, and it will not affect other players.
- The animation is visible in both first-person and third-person view, so it also looks great in videos and screenshots.
- Because it is purely cosmetic, it is safe to add to or remove from an existing world at any time without breaking anything.
Frequently Asked Questions#
Does this change how fast I eat or how much hunger food restores? No. Only the appearance of the held item changes. Eating speed, hunger, saturation, and effects are all exactly the same as vanilla.
Do I need it on a server? No. It is a client-side visual mod. Install it only on your own game.
Will it work with my food mods? Yes for the many popular food mods that are bundled with built-in support, and all vanilla foods always work. Foods from mods that are not bundled will still be edible as normal; they just may not have the extra animation.
Does it add any items or recipes? No. It adds nothing to the game except the animation itself.
