Overview#

Extra Alchemy is a feature-rich expansion for Minecraft's brewing system, designed to provide utility for every situation. It introduces a wide array of new potion effects, all of which are craftable using vanilla materials in a standard brewing stand. Beyond new effects, the mod overhauls potion management with stackable vials, storage bags, and wearable rings that provide permanent effects at the cost of experience points. It also introduces a logical tweak to brewing stands, allowing them to be powered by heat sources like lava or fire instead of just blaze powder.

New Potions and Effects#

The mod adds numerous potions that can be brewed using an Awkward Potion base (unless otherwise specified). All potions support standard variations, including Splash, Lingering, and Tipped Arrows. Many can also be enhanced with Redstone (for duration) or Glowstone (for potency).

Magnetism Iron Ingot Increases the radius for automatically picking up items.
Photosynthesis Beetroot Seeds Restores hunger bars while standing in direct sunlight.
Recall Chorus Fruit Teleports the user back to the location where they first applied the effect once the timer expires.
Return Prismarine Shard Instantly teleports the user to their last slept-in bed or spawn point.
Sinking Iron Boots Causes the user to sink rapidly in water, allowing for easier underwater movement.

Detection Fermented Spider Eye Highlights nearby mobs with an outline, visible through walls.

Shrinking Brown Mushroom Decreases the user's physical size (requires Pehkui mod).

Freezing Snowball Freezes entities in place, preventing movement.
Reincarnation Leather Allows the user to retain their potion effects even after death.
Leeching Golden Sword Heals the user for a portion of the damage they deal to enemies.

*Pacifism requires a Potion of Harming as a base. **Dislocation requires a Potion of Slowness as a base.

Potion Vials#

Potion Vials are a compact alternative to traditional glass bottles. They are designed for quick, stackable use in combat or exploration.

  • Stacking: Vials can be stacked up to 16 in a single inventory slot.
  • Usage: Vials are consumed much faster than normal potions and apply the effect immediately to the user.
  • Crafting Vials: Combine a Splash Potion with an Empty Vial in a crafting grid to create a Potion Vial. Alternatively, right-click an empty vial while a splash potion is in your inventory to fill it.

Potion Rings#

Potion Rings provide a semi-permanent potion effect as long as they are worn. They are compatible with the Trinkets mod (if installed) or can be held in the inventory.

  • XP Consumption: To maintain the effect, the ring consumes a small amount of the player's experience points over time. If the player runs out of XP, the effect is lost until more is gained.
  • Infusing Rings: Combine an Empty Ring with any valid potion in a crafting grid to create the corresponding Potion Ring.

Potion Bag#

The Potion Bag is a specialized storage item that allows you to carry multiple potions in a single slot and use them without opening your inventory.

  • Interface: Shift-Right Click the bag to open its internal storage GUI. You can place any drinkable potion inside.
  • Quick Use: Right-clicking with the bag in hand will automatically consume the currently selected potion.
  • Cycling: If you run out of the selected potion type, the bag can be configured to automatically select the next available type.
  • Customization: Potion Bags can be dyed any color using the standard leather dyeing mechanic.

Brewing Stand Mechanics#

Extra Alchemy introduces a more immersive way to power Brewing Stands, removing the strict reliance on Blaze Powder.

Heat Sources

You can power a brewing stand by placing a heat source directly underneath it. This method is slightly slower than using Blaze Powder but provides a permanent fuel source.

  • Valid Heat Sources: Fire, Lava, Magma Blocks.
  • Heat Conductors: You can place a "conductive" block (such as an Iron Block) between the heat source and the brewing stand. The heat will travel through the conductor to power the stand.

Tooltip Icons

The mod adds helpful icons to the tooltips of all potion-related items (bottles, vials, arrows, and rings). This allows players to identify the effect and its potency at a glance without reading the text.
