Overview#

Goblins & Dungeons is a comprehensive adventure mod for Minecraft that transforms the world into a more dangerous and rewarding landscape. Inspired by classic tabletop RPGs, the mod introduces a hierarchy of goblin enemies, from lowly infantry to the formidable Goblin King. Players will discover various structures ranging from small outposts to massive ruined keeps, each filled with unique loot, traps, and bosses.

The mod focuses on progression through exploration and combat. By defeating goblins and exploring their strongholds, players can obtain magical rings, specialized equipment, and unique building materials like Scoria. The mod is designed to maintain a vanilla-plus feel while significantly expanding the game's combat and dungeon-crawling depth.

Mobs#

The mod adds a variety of hostile creatures, primarily focused on the goblin race. Goblins are mischievous and often spawn in groups within structures or as wandering patrols.

Mini-Boss: The Ogre

  • Drops: Ogre's Tusk (used for brewing).

Boss: The Goblin King

  • Health: 150 HP
  • Behavior: Resides on his throne at the top of the Ruined Keep. He is fast and small, making him hard to hit. He fires "Soul Bullets" that inflict Slowness, summons other goblins, and teleports when his health drops below 50%.
  • Drops: Goblin Crown, Magic Staff.

Items & Equipment#

The mod introduces several unique items, most of which are obtained through looting dungeons or defeating bosses.

Magical Rings

These rings are worn in the off-hand slot to provide passive benefits.

  • Ring of Health: Grants an additional heart (+2 HP) to the player.
  • Ring of Stealth: Reduces the detection range of hostile mobs by 20%.
  • Ring of Experience: Increases the amount of experience points gained from all sources.
  • Ring of Glory: Heals the player upon killing a mob, with the amount of healing scaling based on the mob's maximum health.

Specialized Gear

  • Goblin Crown: A helmet-slot item (2 armor points). When worn, it inflicts Weakness II on nearby Goblins and Ogres and Weakness I on other hostile mobs. It also reduces the detection range of Goblins and Ogres by 50%.
  • Magic Staff: A powerful ranged weapon dropped by the Goblin King.
  • Ogre's Tusk: A brewing ingredient obtained from Ogres.

Potions

  • Potion of Ogre's Might: Brewed by adding an Ogre's Tusk to an Awkward Potion. It provides +3 Attack Damage but reduces movement speed by 10%.

Blocks#

Scoria

Scoria is a dark volcanic rock found in veins underground or as a primary building material in goblin structures. It has many decorative variants that can be crafted or created using a Stonecutter.

  • Variants: Scoria, Polished Scoria, Scoria Bricks, Cracked Scoria Bricks, Chiseled Scoria.
  • Building Blocks: All variants have corresponding Stairs, Slabs, and Walls.

The Urn

Urns are decorative pot blocks found within goblin structures. When broken, they drop various loot items such as:

  • Rotten Flesh
  • String
  • Bread
  • Bones
  • Iron Nuggets
  • Bottle o' Enchanting

Structures#

The mod adds four primary structures that generate naturally in the Overworld, primarily in forest biomes.

  1. Small Goblin Camp: A tiny settlement with a few Gobs and basic loot.
  2. Medium Goblin Camp: Contains more goblins, including Garches and Goblows, and better loot in chests and urns.
  3. Large Goblin Camp: A fortified camp featuring Hobgobs and a significant number of defenders.
  4. Ruined Keep: The largest and most dangerous structure. It is a multi-room dungeon made of Scoria, containing the Ogre mini-boss in the basement and the Goblin King boss on the roof. It is the primary source for Magical Rings and high-tier loot.

Mechanics & Recipes#

Spawning

Goblins primarily spawn within their designated structures. However, after a player has spent a significant amount of time in the world, Goblins may begin to spawn as wandering patrols in various biomes, similar to Illager patrols.

Crafting & Processing

  • Scoria Processing: Most Scoria variants are created by placing a Scoria block into a Stonecutter. Alternatively, they can be crafted using standard stone-brick recipes (e.g., 4 Scoria in a square for Scoria Bricks).
  • Brewing: The Potion of Ogre's Might is brewed at a Brewing Stand using an Ogre's Tusk on an Awkward Potion.

Advancements

The mod includes a custom advancement tree that guides players through the content, from discovering their first camp to defeating the Goblin King.
