Overview#
Guns Without Roses is designed as a "Vanilla+" mod, providing a balanced and straightforward alternative to complex gun mods. It introduces a variety of firearms crafted from standard Minecraft materials like iron, gold, and diamonds. Unlike other mods that focus on realism or complex 3D models, this mod uses 2D sprites and mechanics inspired by games like Terraria. Projectiles are fast, unaffected by gravity, and ignore invulnerability frames, making them distinct from bows and crossbows.
Core Mechanics#
Guns in this mod follow a set of unified mechanics that define their behavior in combat:
- Firing: Right-clicking with a gun in hand fires a bullet from the user's inventory. Guns follow the same ammunition priority as bows (checking the off-hand first, then the inventory).
- Cooldown: After firing, the gun enters a cooldown period (Fire Delay) during which it cannot be used again, similar to the cooldown on Ender Pearls.
- Projectiles: Bullets travel instantly and in a straight line. They are not affected by gravity and ignore the standard invulnerability frames (i-frames) of mobs, allowing for rapid-fire damage.
- Stats: Every gun has three primary stats visible in its tooltip:
- Damage: A combination of a flat damage bonus and a multiplier. Flat bonuses are applied before multipliers.
- Fire Delay: The cooldown time between shots, measured in game ticks (20 ticks = 1 second).
- Accuracy: The random deviation of the projectile. A value of 1.0 is equivalent to a Bow; higher values mean better accuracy, while "Perfect" indicates zero deviation.

The mod adds six distinct firearms, each suited for different stages of the game or combat styles.

Ammunition#
Ammunition types vary in damage and utility. Most bullets are crafted in batches of 32 using a specific material and gunpowder.

Utility Items
- Bullet Bag: A storage item that can hold up to 9 stacks of bullets. Guns will automatically fire ammunition directly from the bag if it is in the player's inventory.
- Maws of Gluttony (Legacy): In versions 1.19.2 and below, this item provides infinite ammunition at the cost of the player's hunger bar. It was removed in version 1.20.1 for balance reasons.
Enchantments#
Guns can be enhanced with five unique enchantments, typically found as treasure loot in chests.

Configuration#
The mod is highly configurable for server owners and modpack creators. Through the configuration files, users can adjust:
- Base damage and multipliers for every gun.
