Overview#

Lighter End is a transformative mod that reimagines Minecraft’s End dimension, turning it from a barren void into a realm filled with light, life, and mystery. Built as a balanced and modern successor to the legendary Better End mod, Lighter End focuses on enhancing the exploration experience without overwhelming the player with redundant ores or overpowered gear. It introduces nine distinct biomes, seven new creatures, and a variety of unique building materials, all while maintaining a vanilla-plus feel.

Lighter End Biome Showcase

Key features include a new armored elytra system, localized gravity mechanics, and survival-friendly recipes that make living in the End a viable and rewarding playstyle. The mod is designed for broad compatibility, allowing it to work alongside other terrain generation mods to create a truly unique endgame experience.

Biomes#

Lighter End adds nine new biomes to the End dimension, each featuring custom ambient sounds, music, and unique flora. Unlike many other mods, Lighter End overlays these biomes onto existing terrain generation, ensuring compatibility with various world-gen datapacks.

Exploring the End Biomes

Mobs#

The mod introduces seven new mobs that inhabit the various biomes of the End. These creatures range from peaceful ambient life to hostile threats.

Mob List

  • Chorus Crab: A neutral mob found in Chorus Forests. It can be bred and provides a source of meat in the End.
  • Cubozoa: A hostile, jellyfish-like creature found in the waters of Megalake Groves. Its stingers can be used to craft arrows.
  • Dragonfly: A passive flying insect that adds life to the skies of the End, often found near water sources.
  • End Fish: Passive aquatic creatures that come in various colors, found swimming in the Megalakes.
  • End Slime: A variant of the vanilla slime that adapts its appearance and properties based on the biome it spawns in.
  • Glossy Mooshroom: A rare, glowing variant of the Mooshroom found exclusively in Foggy Mushroomland.
  • Silk Moth: A vital creature for progression, as it is the primary source of silk used to craft the Silk Elytra.

Blocks#

Lighter End provides a massive expansion to the building palette with six new stone types and five new wood types, each with a full set of stairs, slabs, walls, and decorative variants.

Stone Building Materials

  1. Azure Jadestone: A vibrant blue stone found in the Azure Forest.
  2. Virid Jadestone: A deep green stone found in the Verdant Jungle.
  3. Bornite: A dark, metallic stone found in the Shadow Forest.
  4. Violecite: A purple stone native to the Violet Valley.
  5. Flavolite: A yellow, sandy stone found in the Iridescent Desert.
  6. Umberstone: A dark grey, volcanic stone found in the Ashy Wastes.

Wood Types

  • Chorus: Derived from the vanilla Chorus plants, now available as a full wood set.
  • Azure: A bright blue wood from the Azure Forest.
  • Violet: A purple wood from the Violet Valley.
  • Lucernia: A glowing orange wood found in specific forest biomes.
  • Umbrella Wood: A cyan-tinted wood from the Verdant Jungle.

Special Blocks

  • End Moss: A unique soil block that changes its color and the type of plants it grows based on the biome it is placed in.
  • Aurora Crystals: Glowing crystal clusters that serve as a natural light source and can be crafted into shards.
  • Ice Stars: Rare structures in the sky containing ice enriched with Copper, Gold, and Iron ores.
  • Obelisks: Ancient structures that can be bound to a player. If a player is near death (especially falling into the void), they will be teleported to their bound Obelisk.

New Building Blocks

Items & Equipment#

The mod introduces several unique items and a new tier of specialized equipment designed for End exploration.

Silk Elytra

The Silk Elytra is a craftable and renewable alternative to the vanilla Elytra.

  • Properties: It functions as an armored chestplate, providing protection roughly on par with Diamond armor.
  • Trade-off: It has a weaker glide than the base Elytra and durability slightly better than leather, but it can be repaired and trimmable like standard armor.
  • Renewability: Unlike vanilla Elytra, which are limited to End Cities, Silk Elytra can be crafted using materials dropped by Silk Moths.

Music Discs

Four new music discs composed by Firel can be found as rare loot in End City chests:

  1. Strange and Alien
  2. Eo Dracona
  3. Grandiose
  4. Endless

Consumables & Potions

  • End Veil Potion: A new potion effect that prevents Endermen from becoming hostile when looked at, allowing for safer exploration.
  • Crab Meat: A reliable food source that can be cooked for better saturation.

Mechanics#

Lighter End introduces several gameplay mechanics that change how players interact with the dimension.

  • Low Gravity: By default, gravity in the End is reduced to 1/3 of its normal strength. This allows for higher jumps and slower falls, making navigation between islands much easier. This can be toggled in the configuration.
  • Void Protection: The Obelisk system acts as a safety net. By interacting with an Obelisk, players set a "rescue point." If they fall into the void or take fatal damage nearby, they are warped back to the Obelisk instead of dying.
  • Sniffer Integration: Sniffers brought to the End can "sploot" on End Moss to dig up rare End-specific saplings that cannot be found elsewhere.
  • End Moss Growth: Using bonemeal on End Moss will produce different plants depending on the biome, making it a versatile tool for gardeners and builders.

Recipes#

Lighter End includes several survival-friendly recipes to make the End more self-sufficient.
