Overview#

The MC Dungeons Weapons (MCDW) mod is a comprehensive port of the arsenal found in Minecraft Dungeons. It introduces a massive variety of weapon classes—including Katanas, Glaives, Scythes, Claymores, and Crossbows—each with unique stats, built-in abilities, and custom animations. Beyond just items, the mod implements the iconic Dungeons enchantment system, featuring soul-gathering mechanics, multiplicative damage scaling, and area-of-effect triggers that redefine Minecraft combat.

Core Mechanics#

Soul System

Many weapons in this mod are designated as Soul Weapons. These items allow the player to gather souls from defeated mobs, which are then used to fuel powerful enchantments like Anima Conduit (healing) or Enigma Resonator (scaling damage). Soul gathering is indicated by a purple particle effect upon a kill.

Overcharge

Exclusive to certain bows, the Overcharge mechanic allows players to hold the draw button beyond the standard limit. This can double, triple, or quadruple the damage and projectile speed depending on the enchantment level.

Dual-Wielding

Certain light weapons, such as Daggers and Sickles, possess the Dual-Wielding property. When held in the off-hand, these weapons contribute their enchantments and stats to the player's total combat effectiveness, often increasing attack speed significantly.

Melee Weapons#

The mod adds over 100 melee weapons categorized by rarity (Common, Rare, Legendary/Unique). Unique weapons often come with a permanent, built-in enchantment.

Weapon Name Rarity Built-in Ability Image
Heartstealer Legendary Leeching (Heals on kill)
Whirlwind Legendary Shockwave (AOE on final hit)
Nameless Blade Legendary Weakening (Reduces enemy damage)
Starless Night Legendary Shared Pain (Overkill damage splash)
Cursed Axe Legendary Exploding (Mobs explode on death)
Frost Scythe Legendary Freezing (Slows enemies)
Firebrand Legendary Fire Aspect / Burning

Weapon Classes

  • Claymores: High damage, slow speed, massive knockback.
  • Glaives: Increased reach, allowing players to strike from outside mob range.
  • Katanas: Fast, sweeping strikes with high critical potential.
  • Daggers/Sickles: Extremely fast, designed for dual-wielding and rapid status application.
  • Hammers: Heavy AOE damage and high stun chance.

Ranged Weapons#

Ranged weapons are split between Bows and Crossbows, each utilizing the mod's custom projectile enchantments.

Weapon Name Type Unique Property
Harp Crossbow Crossbow Fires 5 arrows at once (Multishot)
Guardian Bow Bow Built-in Supercharge for massive single-target damage
Firebolt Thrower Crossbow Arrows explode on impact
The Green Menace Bow Spawns poison clouds on hit
Pink Scoundrel Bow Chance to Enrage mobs, making them fight each other

Enchantments#

The mod introduces a proprietary enchantment system. Many of these are incompatible with standard vanilla enchantments like Sharpness or Protection.

  • Critical Hit: 20/30/40% chance to deal a critical hit without jumping.

  • Tempo Theft: Steals movement speed from the target, granting it to the user for 80 seconds.

Enigma Resonator Scaling

This soul-based enchantment scales damage based on the player's XP levels:

XP Levels Tier I Tier II Tier III
10 4% 9% 20%
50 37% 47% 58%
150 58% 77% 89%

Mobs#

While primarily a weapons mod, the ecosystem includes several Dungeons-themed mobs that drop unique crafting materials or weapons.

  • Enchanter: An Illager variant that buffs nearby mobs with purple auras, increasing their damage and health. Spawns in the Overworld.
  • Necromancer: Spawns in Deserts; summons armored skeletons and fires soul orbs.
  • Wraith: A ghostly mob that spawns in the Overworld, leaving trails of blue fire that damage the player.
  • Wildfire: A powerful Blaze variant found in the Nether (Crimson Forests/Basalt Deltas) with four rotating shields.
  • Nameless One: A boss mob found in underground Desert Temple structures. It uses a staff to summon clones and fire green projectiles.

Crafting and Acquisition#

Acquisition

  1. Crafting: Most weapons are crafted using standard materials (Iron, Diamond, Netherite) combined with specific "Weapon Parts" or base weapons (e.g., a Claymore is needed to craft a Heartstealer).
  2. Trading: A unique villager, the Dungeons Weaponsmith, can be found in villages or created using a custom workstation. They trade Emeralds for high-tier and Legendary weapons.
  3. Loot: Legendary weapons have a small chance to appear in Bastion, Fortress, and Stronghold chests.

Example Recipe: The Starless Night

  • Ingredients: 2x Crying Obsidian, 4x Amethyst Shards, 1x Obsidian Claymore.
  • Station: Crafting Table or Smithing Table (depending on version).
