Overview#

Mechanization is a massive technology-focused data pack that transforms vanilla Minecraft into a technical sandbox. It adds a fully functional energy system (measured in kW and kJ), custom world generation for new ores, and a progression tree involving over 60 unique machines. Players can automate everything from ore processing and farming to mob grinding and nuclear power generation.

Key features include:

  • Energy System: A robust power grid using the DatapackEnergy library.
  • Advanced Processing: Machines like the Alloy Furnace, Crusher, and Compressor for resource doubling and material creation.
  • Automation: Automated tree fellers, growth accelerators, and item pipes with filtering.
  • Late-Game Content: Nuclear fission reactors and plasma-based weaponry.

Energy System#

The energy system in Mechanization is the backbone of all machine operations. It uses two primary units:

  • kW (Kilowatts): Represents the power output or consumption rate.
  • kJ (Kilojoules): Represents the total energy stored within a battery or machine.

Energy Grids

Machines can be organized into specific networks using Grid IDs. By default, all machines connect to the same global grid. However, players can use the Multimeter to isolate networks.

  • Setting Grid IDs: Sneak + Right-click a machine with a Multimeter to set its ID to your current Grid ID.
  • Changing Your ID: Use the command /trigger mech_gridid set <number> to change your active ID.

Energy Storage

Energy is stored in Batteries, which come in three tiers. Higher tiers offer larger capacities and faster transfer rates.

Battery Tier Capacity Transfer Rate Range
Tier 1 100,000 kJ 100 kW 12 Blocks
Tier 2 500,000 kJ 500 kW 24 Blocks
Tier 3 2,500,000 kJ 2,500 kW 48 Blocks

Machines#

Mechanization features a wide array of machines categorized by their function. Most machines require a Machine Frame and specific alloys to craft.

Power Generation

  • Furnace Generator: The entry-level generator. Produces 16 kW using standard furnace fuels (Coal, Wood, etc.).
  • Solar Panel: Provides passive power (6 kW) during the day. It features a "Night Mode" that can be toggled via right-click.
  • Fission Reactor: A high-tier multiblock structure that generates massive amounts of power using Uranium Cells. It produces heat and must be cooled to avoid meltdowns.

Resource Processing

  • Alloy Furnace: The most critical machine for progression. It combines molten resources into advanced alloys. Uses 32 kW.
  • Electric Furnace: Smelts items 25% faster than a vanilla furnace. Uses 20 kW.
  • Crusher: Grinds ores into dusts, effectively doubling the yield per ore block.
  • Compressor: Compresses ingots into Plates, which are required for high-tier machine frames.
  • Decompressor: Reverses the compression process (e.g., turning a Block of Iron back into 9 Ingots).
  • Casting Basin: Works alongside the Alloy Furnace to cool molten alloys into solid ingots.

Utility & Automation

  • Machine Crafting Table: A specialized anvil-like table used to craft all Mechanization components. Items remain in the GUI when closed.
  • Tree Feller: Automatically chops down 1x1 trees in front of it and replants saplings. Can be upgraded to handle 2x2 trees.
  • Growth Accelerator: Consumes power to significantly speed up the growth of nearby crops.
  • Mob Grinder: An automated "murder machine" that kills mobs in its range and collects drops.
  • Item Pipes: Used for automated item transport with built-in filtering support.

Resources & Materials#

The mod introduces several new ores and materials that are essential for crafting advanced technology.

Custom Ores

These ores generate naturally in the world and appear as custom blocks (player heads with unique textures):

  • Copper & Tin: Basic metals used for Tier 1 machinery and bronze-like alloys.
  • Aluminum: Used for lightweight components and specific upgrades.
  • Titanium: A rare, high-strength metal found deep underground, required for Tier 3 equipment.
  • Uranium: Used exclusively as fuel for Fission Reactors.

Advanced Alloys

Alloys are created in the Alloy Furnace. They are divided into Tiers based on the materials required.

Alloy Ingot Tier Primary Ingredients
Steel 2 Iron, Coal, Flint
Structural 2 Tin, Lapis, Quartz
Conductive 2 Copper, Gold, Redstone
Crystal Composite 2 Diamond, Emerald, Amethyst
Titanium Steel 3 Steel, Titanium, Blaze Rods
Nether Ingot 3 Titanium, Nether Star, Lava
Ender Ingot 3 Titanium, Chorus Fruit, Dragon's Breath

Tools & Weapons#

Essential Tools

  • Machine Wrench: Used to rotate machines (Right-click) or break them instantly to retain their data (Sneak + Right-click).
  • Multimeter: Displays energy storage and grid information in the chat.
  • Echo Locator: A handheld device that emits a tone when it detects caves within a 16-block range (Diamond version reaches 24 blocks).

Weaponry

  • Plasma Guns: Advanced ranged weapons that consume energy from portable batteries in the player's inventory. They feature a heat mechanic; firing too rapidly will cause the gun to overheat and require a cooldown period.
  • Extreme Plasma Annihilator Cannon: The ultimate late-game weapon, capable of devastating damage at the cost of extreme energy consumption.

Armor Sets

Mechanization adds armor sets for Copper, Tin, and Titanium. Titanium Armor is notably superior to Diamond, offering 50% more durability and higher protection values.

Machine Upgrades#

Machines can be enhanced using specialized upgrade modules:

  • Machine Upgrade: Generally increases the speed of processing or the power output of generators.
  • Ender Upgrade: When installed in an Alloy Furnace, it provides a 10% chance to double the output of Tier 2 Alloys.
  • Nether Upgrade: When installed in an Alloy Furnace, it provides a 10% chance to double the output of Tier 3 Alloys.

Recipes#

All Mechanization items must be crafted in the Machine Crafting Table unless otherwise specified.
