Overview#

Minecraft Comes Alive (MCA) is a massive overhaul of the vanilla Minecraft villager system. It replaces the traditional "Squidward" villagers with human NPCs who have unique skins, genders, personalities, and moods. The mod transforms the game into a life-simulation experience where players can build deep relationships, get married, have children, and manage a thriving community.

Key Features

  • Human NPCs: Over 250 unique skins for male and female villagers.
  • Social System: Advanced interaction menu for chatting, joking, and gifting.
  • Marriage & Family: Ability to marry villagers (or other players) and have children.
  • Productive Children: Children grow up and can perform chores like mining, farming, and woodcutting.
  • Village Management: Hire guards, manage trades, and expand your lineage through generations.

Getting Started#

When you first spawn into a world with MCA installed, you will be greeted by the Setup Screen. This is triggered by the Crystal Ball item, which is automatically given to the player or can be crafted.

The Setup Process

  1. Identity: Define your name and gender.
  2. Preference: Choose which gender(s) you are interested in for romantic interactions.
  3. Destiny: Choose your starting scenario:
    • I have a family: Spawns you with a spouse and 1-3 children in a small house.
    • I live in a village: Spawns you inside a pre-generated village.
    • I am a traveler: Standard Minecraft start with no immediate ties.
    • None of these: Standard start without the Crystal Ball's influence.

Crafting the Crystal Ball

If you lose your Crystal Ball or need to reset your destiny, you can craft a new one: Ingredient Amount Layout
Glass Pane 8 Surrounding
Eye of Ender 1 Center

Villagers & Personalities#

Every villager in MCA is a unique entity with specific traits that dictate their behavior and how they respond to the player.

Personalities

Personalities affect the success rate of social interactions. For example, a "Witty" villager is more likely to enjoy jokes, while a "Serious" one may find them annoying.

Personality Effect
Athletic Moves faster than normal villagers.
Friendly Gains relationship points faster.
Witty High success rate with Jokes.
Serious Low success rate with Jokes; prefers Chatting.
Flirty High success rate with Flirting and Kisses.
Shy Difficult to interact with initially; prefers Gifts.
Grumpy Generally lower success rates across all interactions.

Moods

Villagers have dynamic moods (Happy, Sad, Angry, Neutral) that fluctuate based on interactions and environment. A villager in a bad mood is significantly less likely to accept a gift or a marriage proposal.

Social Interaction System#

Right-clicking a villager opens the Interaction Menu. This menu displays the villager's name, occupation, personality, and your current relationship level (represented by hearts).

Interaction Options

  • Chat: A basic interaction to build rapport. Low risk, low reward.
  • Joke: High reward if successful, but can backfire if the villager isn't in the mood.
  • Gift: Give items from your inventory. Diamonds and Gold are universally loved, but specific occupations have preferences (e.g., Farmers love seeds/hoes).
  • Shake Hand / High Five: Physical greetings that unlock as friendship grows.
  • Tell Story: A longer interaction that can yield significant relationship points.
  • Flirt / Hug / Kiss: Romantic interactions used to progress toward marriage.

Relationship Tiers

Hearts Status Unlocked Actions
0-40 Stranger Chat, Joke, Gift
41-80 Friend Follow Me, Stay Here, High Five
81-100 Close Friend Flirt, Hug, Kiss
100 Soulmate Propose Marriage

Marriage & Family#

Once you reach 100 hearts with a villager, you can propose marriage. This requires specific jewelry items.

The Marriage Process

  1. Engagement: Craft an Engagement Ring and gift it to the villager. If they accept, they become your fiancé.
  2. Wedding: Craft a Wedding Ring and gift it to your fiancé. You will receive a Marriage Certificate.
  3. Procreation: Once married, the "Procreate" option appears in the interaction menu. If successful, a Baby item will be added to your inventory.

Having Children

  • The Baby Item: The baby is initially an item in your inventory. You must hold it for approximately 10-20 minutes (real-time) to "care" for it.
  • Naming: Once the baby is ready to grow, right-click the ground to name them and spawn the child entity.
  • Growth: Children grow through stages: Baby -> Toddler -> Child -> Adult. You can speed up this process by feeding them Golden Apples.

Villager Occupations & Chores#

Villagers retain their vanilla professions (Librarian, Cleric, etc.) for trading, but MCA adds the ability to assign tasks to your children and hired NPCs.

Available Chores

  • Farming: Harvests and replants crops in a nearby radius.
  • Woodcutting: Chops down trees and collects logs/saplings.
  • Mining: Digs a shaft or clears a designated area for ores.
  • Hunting: Attacks nearby passive mobs for food and drops.
  • Guarding: Protects the village or the player from hostile mobs.

Hiring Guards

You can hire any unemployed villager as a Guard by giving them a sword or bow. They will follow you or patrol a designated area. You must pay them a daily wage in Gold or Emeralds to keep them in your service.

Items & Crafting#

MCA introduces several items essential for social progression and village management.

Essential Recipes

Item Recipe Description
Engagement Ring 1 Diamond + 2 Gold Ingots Used to engage a villager at 100 hearts.
Wedding Ring 1 Diamond + 4 Gold Ingots Used to marry a fiancé.
Matchmaker's Ring 1 Diamond + 2 Gold Ingots + 2 Rose Gold Used to make two NPCs marry each other.
Whistle 4 Iron Ingots Calls your spouse and children to your location.
Divorce Papers 1 Paper + 1 Ink Sac Used to end a marriage. Give to spouse as a gift.
Villager Bed 3 Wool + 3 Planks + 1 Carpet A bed specifically for villagers to sleep in.

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is a new material added by MCA. It can be found as Rose Gold Ore in the world. While it can be used to craft rings, villagers often mock it as "Fool's Gold" if given as a raw gift. It is primarily used for high-tier MCA items and decorative blocks.

Blocks & World Generation#

Tombstones

When a villager or family member dies, a Tombstone will spawn at the location of their death. It displays the name of the deceased and the date of their passing. Breaking a tombstone may occasionally spawn a Ghost or drop items the villager was carrying.

Rose Gold Ore

Spawns naturally between Y-levels 0 and 64. It must be smelted into Rose Gold Ingots. It has a similar rarity to Gold Ore but appears in slightly larger veins.

Commands & Configuration#

MCA includes several commands for server administrators and players to manage the mod's behavior.

Commands

  • /mca help: Displays a list of available MCA commands.
  • /mca refresh: Reloads the mod's configuration and villager data.
  • /mca editor: Opens the Villager Editor (Creative Mode only) to modify NPC traits.
  • /mca reset <player>: Resets a player's MCA data, allowing them to use the Crystal Ball again.

Configuration Options

In the mca.cfg file, players can toggle several advanced mechanics:

  • Hardcore Mode: If enabled, the player's world is deleted upon death.
  • Villager Infection: Toggles whether villagers can be turned into zombies.
  • Auto-Farming: Enables or disables the ability for villagers to farm autonomously.
  • Marriage Limits: Sets the maximum number of spouses a player can have (default is 1).
