Overview#
Mo' Structures is an expansive world-generation mod designed to enrich the Minecraft exploration experience. Unlike many structure mods that simply add aesthetic buildings, Mo' Structures focuses on creating "mini-dungeons"—locations that feel integrated into the world's lore and provide functional challenges for players. From massive floating fortresses to sprawling underground labyrinths, each addition is designed to fit the vanilla aesthetic while significantly increasing the variety of the landscape.
The mod utilizes the Jigsaw system, ensuring that structures generate naturally across different biomes and interact correctly with the terrain. It is compatible with most major biome mods and focuses on providing high-quality loot rewards balanced against the difficulty of the encounters found within.
Major Structures#
The following structures represent the primary landmarks added by the mod. These are often large, multi-room complexes with significant loot and enemy presence.
Castle in the Sky
The Castle in the Sky is the mod's most iconic structure. It is a massive, floating stone fortress that generates high in the atmosphere, typically above plains or mountain biomes.
- Features: Multiple towers, a central keep, and hidden basement levels.
- Challenges: High-level mob spawners (Skeletons and Vindicators) and the risk of falling.
- Loot: Contains high-tier rewards including Diamonds, Enchanted Golden Apples, and Netherite Scrap.
Jungle Pyramid (Overhaul)
This structure replaces the vanilla Jungle Temple with a much larger, more dangerous version. It is designed as a multi-floor dungeon filled with traps and puzzles.
- Features: Hidden pressure plates, tripwire traps, and a labyrinthine layout.
- Loot: Specialized loot tables featuring Bamboo, Cocoa Beans, and rare enchanted books.
Villager Market
A large, open-air trading hub that spawns in Plains and Savanna biomes. It serves as a pre-generated village center where players can find multiple professions in one place.
- Features: Stalls for various professions (Fletcher, Mason, Librarian), a central well, and storage crates.
- Inhabitants: Naturally spawns a high density of Villagers and Iron Golems.
The Labyrinth
A rare underground structure consisting of a massive network of stone brick corridors. It is designed to be difficult to navigate and is filled with spawners.
- Features: Dead ends, trapdoors, and central "boss rooms" with multiple chests.
- Mobs: Primarily Zombies, Spiders, and Cave Spiders.
Minor Structures#
These structures are smaller in scale but add significant flavor and utility to the world.
| Structure Name | Biome Spawn | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Tavern | Forests, Plains | A cozy wooden building with a bar, seating, and upstairs bedrooms. Often contains food and drink loot. |
| Ice Tower | Snowy Plains, Taiga | A tall, frozen spire made of packed ice and snow. Contains vertical parkour challenges. |
| Barn | Plains | A large red barn filled with hay bales and animal pens. Great for early-game food and leather. |
| Lighthouse | Beaches, Oceans | A tall stone tower with a light source at the top. Provides a safe haven and basic maritime loot. |
| Airship | Sky (Any) | Small floating vessels that appear to be abandoned. Usually contain navigation-themed loot like Compasses and Maps. |
| Pillager Tavern | Dark Forest | A dark, fortified version of the standard tavern occupied by hostile Illagers. |
Overhauled Vanilla Structures#
Mo' Structures modifies several vanilla structures to bring them up to the mod's quality standards and provide fresh experiences for veteran players.
- Ruined Portals: Adds over 10 new variants of Ruined Portals, including larger, more decayed versions and portals integrated into small shrines.
- Witch Huts: Replaces the basic swamp hut with a more detailed, "alchemist" style shack featuring brewing stands and more atmospheric block palettes.
- Shipwrecks: Introduces more varied shipwreck patterns, including ships that have run aground or are partially buried in beach sand.
- Pillager Outposts: Adds regional variants to outposts, such as snowy versions for cold biomes and sandstone versions for deserts.
Mobs and Entities#
Mo' Structures does not add entirely new mob types with unique models; instead, it utilizes NBT-modified Vanilla Mobs to create unique encounters within its dungeons.
Dungeon Guardians
Inside structures like the Castle in the Sky or the Labyrinth, you will encounter mobs with enhanced attributes:
- Equipped Mobs: Skeletons and Zombies often spawn with full sets of Chainmail or Iron armor.
- Buffed Stats: Certain spawners produce mobs with increased follow range or higher health pools.
- Themed Spawns: The Ice Tower features Stray spawners, while the Jungle Pyramid utilizes Husks and Spiders to fit the environment.
Villager Populations
The Villager Market and Tavern structures are designed to support natural Villager spawning and pathfinding, making them ideal locations for players to establish trading bases without building from scratch.
Loot and Rewards#
The mod introduces custom loot tables for every structure. Loot is categorized by the "tier" of the structure.
| Loot Tier | Typical Items | Found In |
|---|---|---|
| Common | Bread, Iron Ingots, Torches, Coal | Barn, Tavern, Small Ruined Portals |
| Uncommon | Gold Ingots, Enchanted Books, Potions | Ice Tower, Lighthouse, Pillager Tavern |
| Rare | Diamonds, Emerald Blocks, Golden Apples | Jungle Pyramid, Villager Market |
| Epic | Netherite Scrap, Enchanted Golden Apples, High-level Gear | Castle in the Sky, The Labyrinth |
Mechanics and Configuration#
Generation Mechanics
Mo' Structures uses the standard Minecraft Jigsaw System. This allows the structures to be modular. For example, the Villager Market can generate with different stall configurations each time it appears.
Configuration
Players and server admins can customize the mod through the standard world-gen files.
- Spawn Rates: The frequency of structures can be adjusted by modifying the
structure_setJSON files within the mod's data folder. - Biome Restrictions: Using Minecraft's tag system, users can add or remove structures from specific biome categories (e.g., preventing the Ice Tower from spawning in a desert if using a custom biome mod).
- Loot Tables: All loot tables are accessible via data packs, allowing for complete overhaul of the rewards found within the dungeons.
