Overview#
PlasmaCraft is a comprehensive mod centered around the discovery and manipulation of hazardous substances. It populates the Minecraft world with new ores and dangerous caustic liquids that can be processed into powerful energy sources. The mod's progression revolves around the Plasmificator, a specialized machine used to refine these substances into plasma, which in turn powers a suite of advanced weaponry and tools. Players must navigate a world where the environment itself can be lethal, requiring the use of specialized Hazmat suits to survive contact with the mod's various acids and radioactive flows.
Ores and World Generation#
PlasmaCraft adds several new ores to the Overworld and the Nether. These ores are the primary source of the materials needed for high-tier items and weapons.
Overworld Ores
| Ore Name | Spawn Height (Y-Level) | Rarity | Primary Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Radionite Ore | Below 48 | Common | Radionite Vials, Blue Plasma |
| Plutonium Ore | Below 32 | Uncommon | Plutonium Vials, Purple Plasma |
| Neptunium Ore | Below 32 | Uncommon | Neptunium Vials, Yellow Plasma |
| Obsidian Ore | Below 16 | Rare | Obsidian Vials, Black Plasma |
| Uranium Ore | Below 16 | Rare | Uranium Vials, Green Plasma |
| Cryonite Ore | Snowy Biomes | Uncommon | Cryo Batteries, Cryo Blaster |
Nether Ores
Many of these ores also generate in the Nether, often in larger veins than their Overworld counterparts. Netherflow is uniquely found in the Nether, appearing as glowing orange pools or veins.

Caustic Liquids#
The defining feature of PlasmaCraft is its array of caustic liquids. Unlike water or lava, these liquids have unique properties and can be highly volatile when mixed.
Liquid Types
- Acid (Green): Found in surface pools and underground. It melts most blocks and deals rapid damage to players without protection.
- Radionite (Blue): A glowing radioactive liquid used for basic plasma weaponry.
- Plutonium (Purple): A high-energy liquid found deep underground.
- Netherflow (Orange): Found exclusively in the Nether; can be used as a potent furnace fuel.
- Cryonite (Light Blue): A freezing liquid that does not emit light and can freeze nearby water into ice.
- Neptunium (Yellow): A corrosive substance used for specialized plasma cells.
- Uranium (Light Green): Highly radioactive and essential for thermonuclear items.
- Obsidian (Black): A dense, liquid form of obsidian used for heavy-duty plasma applications.
Liquid Interactions
PlasmaCraft liquids follow complex physics rules:
- Acid + Water: Produces Clay. This interaction is a useful way to farm clay blocks.
- Caustic + Caustic: Most caustic liquids, when touching each other, will trigger a Caustic Explosion. This explosion is often powerful enough to destroy the source blocks, leaving a crater behind.
- Melting: Acid pools will slowly "eat" through surrounding soft blocks like dirt, grass, and sand.
The Plasmificator#
The Plasmificator is the central processing unit of the mod. It is used to convert filled vials of caustic liquids into refined plasma or energy cells.
Crafting Recipe
To craft a Plasmificator, arrange the following in a crafting table:
- Top Row: Iron Ingot, Glass, Iron Ingot
- Middle Row: Glass, Furnace, Glass
- Bottom Row: Iron Ingot, Redstone Dust, Iron Ingot
Operation
- Place a Filled Vial (e.g., Acid Vial, Radionite Vial) in the top slot.
- The machine will process the liquid, consuming the vial's contents.
- The machine returns an Empty Vial and the resulting Plasma or Energy Cell.
- If there is no room for the empty vial, the machine will drop it on the ground.
Items and Equipment#
Vials
Vials are the primary method of transporting caustic liquids. They are crafted using three glass blocks in a 'V' shape, similar to a bucket. Unlike buckets, vials are stackable, making them more efficient for large-scale liquid transport.
Hazmat Suit
The Hazmat Suit is essential for any player working with PlasmaCraft. Wearing the full set provides total immunity to damage from all caustic liquids and radiation.
| Piece | Crafting Material | Protection |
|---|---|---|
| Hazmat Hood | 5 Orange Wool | Caustic Resistance |
| Hazmat Jacket | 8 Orange Wool | Caustic Resistance |
| Hazmat Leggings | 7 Orange Wool | Caustic Resistance |
| Hazmat Boots | 4 Orange Wool | Caustic Resistance |
Radionite Boat
Standard wooden boats will instantly dissolve in caustic liquids. The Radionite Boat is a specialized vehicle that allows players to traverse pools of acid, radionite, and other hazardous flows safely. It is crafted using Radionite Ingots in the standard boat pattern.
Weapons#
PlasmaCraft introduces a variety of high-tech weapons that use plasma as ammunition. Most weapons require Caustic Batteries or Energy Cells to fire.
Weapon Types
- Laser Rifle: Fires a continuous or rapid-fire beam of light. High precision and long range.
- Plasma Rifle: Fires slower-moving bolts of plasma that deal significant splash damage.
- Railgun: A hitscan weapon that fires slugs at extreme velocities. It can pierce through multiple enemies.
- Acid Launcher: Launches canisters of acid that shatter on impact, covering the area in corrosive liquid.
- Laser Shotgun: Fires a spread of short-range laser beams, devastating at close quarters.
- Cryo Blaster: Uses Cryo Batteries to fire freezing projectiles that can slow or freeze mobs in place.
Weapon Stats
| Weapon | Ammo Type | Damage | Special Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laser Rifle | Caustic Battery | Moderate | High Accuracy |
| Plasma Rifle | Plasma Cell | High | Splash Damage |
| Railgun | Railgun Slug | Extreme | Piercing |
| Acid Launcher | Acid Vial | Varies | Leaves Acid Pools |
Mechanics and Configuration#
Battery Recycling
When using energy weapons, there is a chance that a Caustic Battery will be returned as an Empty Battery rather than being consumed entirely. This chance can be modified in the configuration file.
Thermonuclear Pellets
By combining Uranium and Plutonium in the Plasmificator, players can create Thermonuclear Pellets. These are used as the ultimate fuel source or as components for high-explosive Acid TNT.
Configuration Options
PlasmaCraft includes a plasmacraft.props file (or plasmacraft.cfg in 1.7.10) that allows server administrators to tune the mod:
- LiquidSourceExplodesAfterCausticExplosion: Toggles whether liquid source blocks are destroyed by caustic reactions.
- AcidSpawnRate: Adjusts how frequently acid pools appear on the surface.
- OreGeneration: Allows fine-tuning of the vein size and frequency for all mod ores.
- WeaponDurability: Sets the number of shots a weapon can fire before breaking.
