Overview#
ValleyCraft is a massive overhaul mod that shifts the focus of Minecraft toward a more deliberate farming and exploration experience. Heavily inspired by titles like Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, and Harvest Moon, the mod introduces over 50 new cooking recipes, specialized agricultural tools like sickles and scythes, and a variety of functional decorative items such as rope bridges and scarecrows.
The mod encourages players to explore the world to find wild crops and unique loot, which can then be brought back to a homestead to create high-tier meals that provide powerful status effects, including extra health hearts and increased strength.
Farming and Crops#
Farming in ValleyCraft is more involved than vanilla agriculture. The mod introduces a wide variety of new crops that can be found growing wild in specific biomes or obtained through exploration.
New Crops
| Crop | Source | Biome Preference | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corn | Wild Corn | Plains, Savanna | Cooking, Animal Feed |
| Tomatoes | Wild Tomatoes | Forest, Plains | Soups, Salads |
| Onions | Wild Onions | Forest, Swamp | Base ingredient for many savory dishes |
| Peppers | Wild Peppers | Jungle, Desert | Spicy dishes, Speed buffs |
| Blueberries | Blueberry Bushes | Taiga, Forest | Pies, Jams, Snacks |
| Strawberries | Strawberry Bushes | Forest, Birch Forest | Desserts, Health buffs |
| Rice | Wild Rice | Swamps, Riverbanks | Sushi, Rice Bowls |
| Tea Leaves | Tea Bushes | Mountainous regions | Brewing Tea for status effects |
| Coffee Beans | Coffee Plants | Jungle | Brewing Coffee for Haste/Speed |
Scarecrows
Scarecrows are functional blocks that protect your farmland. When placed, they prevent hostile mobs from spawning within a specific radius and prevent animals from trampling crops. They also add a rustic aesthetic to any farm.
Tools and Specialized Equipment#
ValleyCraft introduces tools designed to make large-scale farming and exploration more efficient.
Sickles and Scythes
Sickles are used to harvest crops and grass in a wide area. Unlike manual harvesting, using a sickle ensures you collect all drops from a 3x3 area instantly. Higher-tier sickles have higher durability and a larger harvest radius.
- Stone Sickle: Basic durability, 3x3 area.
- Iron Sickle: Improved durability, 3x3 area.
- Golden Sickle: Low durability, high speed, 5x5 area.
- Diamond Sickle: High durability, 5x5 area.
- Netherite Sickle: Maximum durability, 5x5 area, fire resistant.
Nets and Spike Traps
- Nets: Used to catch small creatures or collect certain aquatic items without killing the source.
- Spike Traps: Defensive blocks that can be hidden in the ground. They deal continuous damage to any mob or player that walks over them, making them ideal for base defense or automated mob farms.
Rope and Rope Bridges
Rope is a versatile item used for crafting and traversal.
- Rope: Can be placed on the side of blocks to act as a ladder.
- Rope Bridges: These can be stretched across gaps. By placing a Rope Bridge anchor and clicking across a chasm, the bridge will dynamically generate, allowing for safe passage over ravines and rivers.
Cooking and Recipes#
The heart of ValleyCraft is its expanded cooking system. By using a Cooking Pot, players can combine various ingredients to create complex meals.
The Cooking Pot
The Cooking Pot must be placed over a heat source (like a campfire or stove). Right-clicking the pot opens a specialized UI where ingredients are placed.
Notable Recipes and Effects
| Dish | Ingredients | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Hearty Stew | Beef, Onion, Potato, Tomato | Extra Hearts (Absorption) |
| Spicy Stir-fry | Rice, Pepper, Chicken, Onion | Speed II |
| Fruit Salad | Apple, Strawberry, Blueberry | Regeneration |
| Vegetable Medley | Corn, Tomato, Onion | Resistance |
| Strong Coffee | Coffee Beans, Water | Haste and Speed |
| Soothing Tea | Tea Leaves, Water | Removes negative status effects |
Blocks and Furniture#
ValleyCraft adds numerous decorative and functional blocks to enhance the player's home and farm.
Lighting
- Redstone Lanterns: Can be toggled on and off with a redstone signal.
- Hanging Lanterns: Can be attached to the underside of blocks or chains for a more atmospheric look.
- Braziers: Large fire pits that provide high light levels and act as a permanent heat source for cooking.
Furniture
The mod includes various furniture pieces such as wooden crates (for storage), benches, and tables that fit the rustic aesthetic of a valley farmhouse. Many of these items are crafted using the Sawmill, a new utility block that provides more efficient wood processing than the standard crafting table.
Mobs#
While primarily focused on farming, ValleyCraft introduces new wildlife to make the world feel more alive.
Snails
- Behavior: Passive mobs found in Swamps, Jungles, and Forests. They move slowly and leave a faint trail.
- Drops: Snail Shells (used for crafting decorative items or specific potions).
- Stats: 4 Health (2 Hearts).
Crows
- Behavior: Crows will occasionally spawn near unprotected crops. They may attempt to eat growing plants unless a Scarecrow is nearby.
- Drops: Feathers.
- Stats: 6 Health (3 Hearts).
Exploration and Structures#
To find the best seeds and ingredients, players must venture out into the world. ValleyCraft adds several small structures to the world generation:
- Abandoned Farmhouses: Dilapidated structures containing basic farming tools, seeds, and occasionally a Cooking Pot.
- Shrines: Small stone structures found in forests that may contain rare seeds like Tea or Coffee.
- Campsites: Small tents and campfires where travelers have left behind supplies and food.
Gameplay Changes
ValleyCraft adjusts the loot tables of vanilla structures (like Villages and Shipwrecks) to include the mod's new items. Additionally, breaking tall grass has a small chance to drop various new seeds depending on the biome.
Lingering Powder Addon#
The Lingering Powder Addon is an optional expansion for ValleyCraft that introduces a new way to apply status effects.
- Lingering Powders: These are crafted from dried herbs and crops. When thrown or used, they create a small cloud that applies effects to anyone standing within it.
- Usage: Unlike potions, powders are stackable and can be used quickly in combat or farming to buff players or debuff mobs in a small area.
