Overview#
The Werewolves mod is an extensive faction-based expansion designed to integrate seamlessly with the Vampirism ecosystem. It allows players to abandon their humanity and embrace the life of a lycanthrope. As a werewolf, you gain immense physical power, specialized hunting skills, and the ability to transform into various beast forms. However, this power comes with a price: a constant hunger for fresh meat, a vulnerability to silver, and the uncontrollable influence of the moon.
Players can choose between different paths within the werewolf faction, focusing on raw combat prowess, survivalist agility, or maintaining a balance between their human and animalistic natures.
Becoming a Werewolf#
To join the werewolf faction, a player must first contract the disease known as Lupinus Sanguinum. This can be achieved through several methods:
- Wild Bites: Engaging in combat with a Wild Werewolf at night has a high chance of infecting the player.
- Werewolf Tooth: Using a Werewolf Tooth (dropped by wild werewolves) can manually trigger the infection.
- Wolf Blood: Consuming Wolf Blood items found in loot chests or obtained from werewolves.
Once infected, the player will see the Lupinus Sanguinum effect in their status bar. To complete the transformation, the player must sleep in a bed. Upon waking, they will be a Level 1 Werewolf. If a player wishes to cancel the infection before it takes hold, they can consume a Milk Bucket or a specialized cure.
Progression and Rituals#
Werewolves progress through 14 levels by performing rituals at a Stone Altar. Unlike vampires who use blood, werewolves must prove their strength through hunting and sacrifice.
Ritual Requirements
To level up, players must satisfy three conditions:
- Prey Snatched: A specific amount of damage dealt to mobs or players (tracked in the Altar UI).
- Livers: Collected from Villagers or other Werewolves.
- Cracked Bones: Collected from Skeletons or Werewolves.
The Altar Setup
To perform rituals beyond Level 4, a specific structure is required:
- Place a Stone Altar in the center.
- Place 4 Stone Altar Fire Bowls within a 3-block radius of the altar.
- Wait until Nighttime.
- Light all four fire bowls with a Flint and Steel.
- Right-click the Altar with the required items in your inventory to begin the ritual.
| Level | Livers Required | Cracked Bones Required | Damage (Prey) Required |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 3 | 2 | 250 |
| 3 | 5 | 4 | 500 |
| 4 | 8 | 6 | 1000 |
| 5+ | Increases | Increases | Increases |
Skill Tree and Abilities#
Upon leveling up, players earn skill points that can be spent in the Werewolf Skill Menu (default key: P). The skill tree is divided into three primary branches:
Active Abilities
- Partial Turn: Partially transform to gain claws and ears, increasing unarmed damage and speed without a full beast transformation.
- Leap: A powerful jump that allows for rapid traversal and closing the gap on prey.
- Howl: Boosts the attack speed and strength of the player and nearby allied wolves/werewolves.
- Scent Tracking: Highlights nearby mobs through walls, allowing the player to track prey through dense forests.
Combat Skills
- Bleeding Bite: Attacks cause a damage-over-time bleeding effect.
- Stun Bite: Temporarily immobilizes the target.
- Throat Seeker: A passive chance to instantly execute targets that are below 25% health.
- Thick Fur: Provides natural armor and damage reduction against non-silver weapons.
Transformation Forms
- Beast Form: The ultimate combat form. Massive increase to health, damage, and speed, but causes rapid hunger depletion.
- Survivalist Form: Focuses on extreme mobility, climbing walls, and reduced fall damage.
Mobs and Creatures#
The mod populates the world with new entities that interact with the faction system.
| Mob | Behavior | Stats | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild Werewolf | Hostile at night; Humanoid by day. | 40-60 HP, High Damage | Liver, Cracked Bone, Werewolf Tooth |
| Werewolf Hunter | Hostile to Werewolves; Neutral to Humans. | 30 HP, Uses Silver | Silver Bolts, Hunter Equipment |
| Werewolf Villager | Neutral; Can be traded with or hunted. | 20 HP | Liver (when killed) |
| Werewolf Lord | Boss-level entity found in claimed villages. | 200+ HP | Rare Totems, High-tier Loot |
Items and Equipment#
Key Items
- Liver: The primary ritual item. Can be eaten by werewolves for high saturation but causes hunger in humans.
- Cracked Bone: A ritual component dropped by skeletons and werewolves.
- Wolfsbane: A purple flower found in forests. Used to craft protective items and anti-werewolf potions.
- Moon Charm: Used to recruit werewolves as minions once the player reaches Level 14 (Werewolf Lord).
- Silver Weaponry: (Swords, Axes, Pickaxes) Essential for fighting werewolves. Silver deals significantly higher damage to lycanthropes and bypasses their natural damage reduction.
Curing Lycanthropy
If a player wishes to leave the faction, they must craft a Strange Injection.
- Craft an Empty Syringe (Glass + Glass Pane).
- Right-click a werewolf to collect a sample.
- Use the Injection Chair (or Injection Table) to administer the cure.
- Wait 100 seconds for the effect to clear the faction status.
Blocks and Structures#
- Stone Altar: The central block for all werewolf rituals.
- Stone Altar Fire Bowl: Must be placed around the altar to enable high-level rituals.
- Werewolf Totem: Found in the center of villages. Can be used to claim a village for the werewolf faction, triggering a raid-style defense against hunters or vampires.
- Wolfsbane Diffuser: A block that slowly releases wolfsbane particles, weakening any werewolves in the vicinity.
- Injection Chair: A specialized furniture block used for the curing process.
Biomes#
Werewolf Forest
A dense, dark forest characterized by Jacaranda Trees. This biome has a significantly higher spawn rate for wild werewolves and contains the majority of the world's Wolfsbane patches.
Werewolf Heaven
A rare, magical biome where the moon's influence is constant. In this biome:
- Werewolves can maintain their full beast form and power during the day.
- Sunlight does not penalize werewolf stats.
- Natural regeneration for werewolves is significantly increased.
Mechanics and Weaknesses#
The Moon Cycle
Werewolf power is tied to the lunar cycle. During a Full Moon, werewolves receive a massive boost to all stats but may find it harder to control their transformation. During the day, werewolves are generally in human form unless they have unlocked specific high-level skills.
Diet
Werewolves have a restricted diet. They gain significantly more nutrition from Raw Meat and Livers. Consuming plant-based foods provides almost no saturation and may even cause a temporary hunger debuff at higher levels.
Silver Vulnerability
Silver is the ultimate counter to werewolves.
- Silver Weapons: Deal +50% damage to werewolves.
- Silver Armor: Reduces the damage taken from werewolf bites and claws.
- Silver Effect: Being hit by a silver weapon applies a "Silvered" debuff that disables werewolf regeneration for several seconds.
Commands and Configuration#
The mod provides several commands for server administrators to manage werewolf players:
/werewolf level <player> <level>: Sets a player's werewolf level (1-14)./werewolf faction <player> <add/remove>: Manually adds or removes a player from the werewolf faction.
Configuration:
Most aspects of the mod, including transformation duration, silver damage multipliers, and biome spawn rates, can be adjusted in the werewolves-common.toml and werewolves-server.toml files located in the instance's config folder.
