Overview#

Beyond Earth (formerly known as Space-Bosstools) is a massive space exploration mod designed for modern Minecraft versions like 1.20.1 and 1.19.2. It introduces a multi-tiered progression system where players must master metallurgy and engineering to leave the Overworld. The mod features five unique celestial bodies—the Moon, Mars, Venus, Mercury, and Glacio—each with its own gravity, atmosphere, and resources. Players can build customizable space stations, drive rovers across alien terrains, and encounter unique extraterrestrial life forms.

Getting Started#

To begin your journey into space, you must first master the production of Steel, the foundational material for all space-faring technology.

1. Steel Production

Steel is created by processing Iron Ingots in a Blast Furnace. Unlike the vanilla blast furnace, the Beyond Earth Blast Furnace is a specialized machine crafted from bricks.

  • Blast Furnace Recipe: 4 Bricks, 4 Brick Blocks, and 1 Furnace.
  • Usage: Place Iron Ingots and Coal inside to produce Steel Ingots.

2. Metal Pressing

Once you have Steel, you need to create Plates and Compressed Ingots.

  • Hammer: Crafted with 2 Sticks, 2 Iron Nuggets, and 1 Iron Ingot. Use it in a crafting table with an ingot to create a Plate.
  • Compressor: A machine used to create Compressed Steel, Desh, Ostrum, and Calorite. It requires Forge Energy (FE) to operate.

3. The NASA Workbench

The NASA Workbench is the heart of your space program. It is a large crafting station used to assemble rockets and rovers.

  • Recipe: 4 Compressed Steel, 1 Steel Ingot, 2 Levers, 1 Redstone Torch, and 1 Crafting Table.

Dimensions & Planets#

The mod adds several dimensions, each requiring a specific tier of rocket to reach.

Planet Rocket Tier Gravity Atmosphere Key Resources
The Moon Tier 1 Low None Cheese, Desh, Iron
Mars Tier 2 Medium None Desh, Ice Shards, Iron
Venus Tier 3 High Toxic/Hot Ostrum, Gold, Diamond
Mercury Tier 3 High Extreme Heat Calorite, Iron
Glacio Tier 4 Low Freezing Ice, Iron, Copper
Orbit Any Zero None Space Station Building

The Moon

The first destination for any astronaut. It features a desolate landscape with craters and Alien Villages. You can find Cheese Ore (used for food) and Desh Ore, which is essential for Tier 2 technology.

Mars

A red, rocky planet home to the Martian Raptor. Mars is the primary source of Desh and contains frozen underground lakes where Ice Shards can be harvested.

Venus & Mercury

These planets are extremely hostile. Venus has a thick, yellow atmosphere and is rich in Ostrum. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun, containing Calorite, the strongest material in the mod.

Glacio

A freezing planet in a distant solar system. It is covered in thick ice and snow, requiring Tier 4 technology to reach.

Vehicles & Transportation#

Beyond Earth features four tiers of rockets and a ground vehicle for exploration.

Rockets

All rockets must be launched from a Rocket Launch Pad (a 3x3 structure of Launch Pad blocks). Rockets require Fuel to launch, which is added by sneak-right-clicking the rocket with a Fuel Bucket.

  • Tier 1 Rocket: Reaches the Moon and Earth Orbit. Built with Steel parts.
  • Tier 2 Rocket: Reaches Mars. Built with Desh parts.
  • Tier 3 Rocket: Reaches Venus and Mercury. Built with Ostrum parts.
  • Tier 4 Rocket: Reaches Glacio. Built with Calorite parts.

The Rover

The Rover is a land vehicle used for fast travel across planet surfaces. It features a storage trunk and requires fuel to operate. It is assembled in the NASA Workbench using Wheels and a Steel frame.

Machines & Power#

Machines are essential for survival and progression. Most require Forge Energy (FE).

Power Generation

  • Coal Generator: Converts coal into FE. Ideal for early-game power.
  • Solar Panel: Generates FE from sunlight. Highly effective on planets with no atmosphere or close to the sun (Mercury).

Processing Machines

  • Compressor: Turns ingots into compressed versions (e.g., 1 Steel Ingot -> 1 Compressed Steel).
  • Fuel Refinery: Converts Oil (found in Overworld oceans) into Rocket Fuel.
  • Water Pump: Automatically pumps water from a source block, useful for oxygen production.

Life Support Machines

  • Oxygen Loader: Converts Water into Oxygen. Used to refill Oxygen Tanks and Space Suits.
  • Oxygen Bubble Distributor: Consumes oxygen and energy to create a breathable "bubble" in a radius, allowing players to walk without a suit.

Mobs & Entities#

Space is not empty; various creatures inhabit the planets.

Mob Location Behavior Drops
Alien Moon Passive; lives in villages None
Martian Raptor Mars Hostile; very fast Rotten Flesh
Star Crawler Moon/Mars Neutral; passive until hit Diamonds
Corrupted Alien Moon/Mars Hostile; zombie-like Rotten Flesh
Venusian Robot Venus Hostile; ranged attacks Iron Ingots

Alien Villages

Found on the Moon, these structures are inhabited by peaceful Aliens. They resemble vanilla villages but are made of local moon materials. They often contain loot chests with basic space gear.

Items & Materials#

Space Suits

To survive without oxygen or in extreme temperatures, you must wear a Space Suit.

  • Standard Space Suit: Provides oxygen and basic protection. Refilled at an Oxygen Loader.
  • Netherite Space Suit: Upgraded version that provides fire resistance and higher durability.

Materials Progression

  1. Steel: Overworld (Blast Furnace).
  2. Desh: Found on the Moon. Used for Tier 2 Rockets and heavy machinery.
  3. Ostrum: Found on Mars. Used for Tier 3 Rockets and advanced storage.
  4. Calorite: Found on Venus/Mercury. Used for Tier 4 Rockets and the best armor/tools.

Mechanics#

Oxygen System

Players have an oxygen bar that appears when in a vacuum. To stay alive, you must wear a full Space Suit with a filled Oxygen Tank. Oxygen can be replenished by placing the suit chest piece into an Oxygen Loader.

Gravity

Each planet has a unique gravity multiplier. On the Moon, players can jump significantly higher and fall slower. In Orbit, players experience zero gravity, requiring a Space Suit Jetpack or blocks to navigate.

Temperature

Venus and Mercury have extreme heat that will damage players without a Netherite Space Suit. Glacio has extreme cold that requires specialized insulation or heat sources.

Space Stations

By bringing specific materials (Steel, Iron, etc.) into orbit, players can click the "Create Space Station" button in the planet selection menu. This generates a customizable platform where players can build permanent bases in zero gravity.
