Biome Locator Mod Wiki

The Biome Locator mod is a utility-focused expansion for Minecraft that solves the age-old problem of finding specific biomes in vast, procedurally generated worlds. Unlike the vanilla /locate command, which is often restricted to operators, this mod provides a survival-friendly item called the Biome Locator.

This tool acts as an advanced compass and encyclopedia, allowing players to filter through all registered biomes, view their environmental properties, and even see what resources (blocks and items) naturally generate within them. It is fully compatible with major biome expansion mods such as Biomes O' Plenty and Oh The Biomes You'll Go.

Biome Locator

The primary item added by the mod. It resembles a detailed map or a high-tech compass. When held, it provides a real-time HUD display pointing toward a selected destination.

Biome Selection UI

Right-clicking with the Biome Locator opens the main menu. This interface contains several key features:

• Search Bar: Allows players to type the name of a biome to filter the list.
• Biome List: Displays all available biomes in the current dimension.
• Stats View: Selecting a biome reveals its temperature, downfall (humidity), and rarity.
• Resource View: A unique feature that lists the blocks and items commonly found in that biome (e.g., Cacti in Deserts, Blue Ice in Frozen Oceans).

Tracking and Navigation

Once a biome is selected and the "Locate" button is pressed, the mod begins searching the surrounding area.

• HUD Display: Information appears in the top-right corner of the screen, showing the status (Searching/Found), the name of the target biome, and the exact distance in blocks.
• Directional Indicator: A dot or needle on the Biome Locator item itself points toward the coordinates of the found biome.
• Teleportation: In Creative Mode, a "Teleport" button becomes available in the UI, allowing instant travel to the located coordinates.

The Biome Locator is designed to be accessible in the early-to-mid game, requiring materials gathered from hunting and exploration.

Crafting Grid Layout:

The mod includes a configuration file (typically found in the /config folder of your Minecraft instance) that allows for several adjustments:

• High Contrast Mode: A toggleable setting that changes the HUD text to pure white. This is designed to improve readability against bright backgrounds like snow or sand.
• Search Radius: Admins can define the maximum distance the locator will search before giving up (default is usually set to several thousand blocks to prevent server lag).
• Blacklist: Specific biomes can be blacklisted to prevent players from locating them (useful for hidden or progression-locked biomes in modpacks).
