Overview#

ProjectE (mod id projecte) is a complete rewrite of the classic Equivalent Exchange 2 (EE2). It adds a full matter-energy economy to the game built around EMC (Energy-Matter Covalence): every item gets an EMC value, and anything you have learned can be converted into anything else of equal value.

At the low end that means turning spare cobblestone into the diamonds you actually need; at the high end it means automated EMC farms, ultra-durable Dark Matter and Red Matter gear, rings that grant flight and fire immunity, and Klein Stars that carry millions of EMC in your pocket.

ProjectE is a standalone content mod with no library dependencies - install it on its own and it works. It is a rewrite of Equivalent Exchange 2 by x3n0ph0b3, rebuilt by SinKillerJ and contributors.

Getting Started#

The usual first steps into ProjectE:

  1. Craft a Philosopher's Stone. It is the key ingredient of nearly every ProjectE recipe and a world-transmutation tool in its own right.
  2. Craft a Transmutation Table using the Philosopher's Stone. This is the heart of the mod.
  3. Feed the table. Put items in to permanently learn them while banking their EMC value.
  4. Withdraw what you need. Click any learned item to take copies out, paying its EMC cost from your bank.
  5. Scale up. Build Energy Collectors and Anti-Matter Relays to generate EMC passively, Energy Condensers to duplicate items automatically, and work up the alchemical fuel chain toward Dark Matter and Red Matter.

Advancements guide your progression through the mod, so the advancements screen doubles as a quest book.

EMC & The Transmutation Table#

EMC (Energy-Matter Covalence) is the mod's universal currency. Every item that can be transmuted carries an EMC value - common blocks are worth a little, rare materials a lot.

The Transmutation Table is where EMC lives:

  • Learning. Put any item into the table and you permanently learn it while its EMC value is added to your bank. Knowledge and banked EMC are saved per player and follow you across sessions and worlds on a server.
  • Withdrawing. Every learned item appears in the table's alchemy circles. Click one to withdraw copies, paying its EMC cost from your bank.
  • Searching. A built-in search box filters your learned items, and tome/unlearned filters keep long lists manageable.
  • Tablet. A portable version, the Transmutation Tablet, gives you the same interface from your inventory.

Because knowledge is permanent, the table turns every duplicate drop, mob farm output, or spare stack into progress: burn it for EMC now, withdraw something better later.

Philosopher's Stone#

The Philosopher's Stone is both the mod's crafting core and a hands-on transmutation tool:

  • World transmutation. Right-click blocks in the world to transmute them in place - stone to cobblestone, grass to sand, and many more pairings. A live preview overlay shows exactly which blocks will change before you commit.
  • Charging. Charge the stone up to transmute bigger areas at once.
  • Portable crafting. Shift-right-click in the air to open a portable crafting grid.
  • Crafting ingredient. The stone is the key ingredient of the mod's recipes - and it is not consumed when used in crafting.

Machines - Collectors, Condensers, Relays & Furnaces#

ProjectE's machine set generates, stores and spends EMC automatically:

Energy Collectors (MK1-MK3)

Generate EMC from light and use it to upgrade fuel items along the alchemical fuel chain (coal, mobius fuel, aeternalis fuel...). Higher marks generate faster and hold more. They work with hoppers and pipes for full automation, and an output lock lets you choose exactly what they produce.

Energy Condensers

Duplicate any learned item from EMC fed to them: set a target item and the condenser materializes copies as EMC flows in. Feed them with Collectors or by dumping unwanted items in.

Anti-Matter Relays (MK1-MK3)

Buffer and forward EMC between machines, boost adjacent Collectors, and charge Klein Stars. Items piped into a relay are burned into EMC.

Dark Matter & Red Matter Furnaces

Smelt faster than vanilla and hold more fuel; the Red Matter Furnace is the quicker of the two. They fit hopper automation like a vanilla furnace.

Matter, Tools & Armor#

Dark Matter and Red Matter are the mod's high-EMC materials, crafted from aeternalis fuel and diamonds and then forged into gear:

  • Tools. Extremely durable, extremely fast tools with unique charged abilities - area mining, terraforming, and more. Red Matter tools (including the multi-purpose Red Katar and Red Morningstar) outclass their Dark Matter counterparts.
  • Armor. Dark Matter, Red Matter and Gem armor sets provide strong damage reduction, with the Gem set at the top.
  • Blocks. Both matters can also be placed as decorative/storage blocks and are used throughout the mod's late-game recipes.

Rings, Amulets & Items#

A collection of powered items rounds out the kit:

  • Swiftwolf's Rending Gale - creative-style flight plus a repulsion field against projectiles.
  • Ring of Ignition - fire immunity and fire-starting.
  • Ring of Arcana - combines several ring effects in one item.
  • Watch of Flowing Time - time control: speeds up nearby machines and can slow entities.
  • Repair Talisman - repairs items in your inventory over time.
  • Black Hole Band - magnet effect, pulling drops to you.
  • Nova Catalyst / Nova Cataclysm - stable, placeable explosives on demand.
  • Mercurial Eye - builds and swaps blocks in the world straight from EMC.
  • Alchemical Chests and color-coded Alchemical Bags - large and portable storage; bags of the same color share one inventory.
  • Gem of Eternal Density - condenses low-value items in your inventory into denser, higher-EMC ones.

Most powered items draw EMC from consumable fuels or a Klein Star in your inventory.

Klein Stars#

Klein Stars are portable EMC batteries. Six tiers - Ein, Zwei, Drei, Vier, Sphere, Omega - each holding double the EMC of the tier below, up to millions of EMC in the Omega star.

  • Charging. Charge them in an Anti-Matter Relay (or on the Transmutation Table interface).
  • Spending. Powered tools, armor abilities, rings and amulets draw from a Klein Star in your inventory instead of burning fuel items.
  • Upgrading. Four stars of one tier combine into one star of the next tier, keeping their stored EMC.

Commands#

ProjectE ships an operator command family under /projecte:

  • /projecte knowledge learn <player> <item> - teach a player an item as if they had put it in the Transmutation Table.
  • /projecte knowledge unlearn <player> <item> - remove a learned item from a player's knowledge.
  • /projecte knowledge clear <player> - wipe a player's transmutation knowledge.
  • /projecte knowledge test <player> <item> - check whether a player knows an item.
  • /projecte emc add|remove|set|get <player> [amount] - give, take, set or read a player's banked EMC.
  • /projecte setemc <item> <value> / /projecte removeemc <item> - set or remove an item's EMC value at runtime (until reload).
  • /projecte reloademc - reload EMC values after changing them.
  • /projecte dumpmissingemc - write a report of all items that currently have no EMC value, the starting point for filling gaps with custom values.
  • /projecte clearknowledge - clear the knowledge of every player on the server.

Most sub-commands require operator permission; regular players interact with the mod entirely through its items and blocks.

Tips & FAQ#

Where do my EMC and learned items live? They are stored per player and follow you across sessions - and across worlds on a server.

Why does an item show no EMC value? Not every modded item has a value assigned. Operators can find gaps with /projecte dumpmissingemc and assign values with /projecte setemc.

What is the fastest early EMC? Feed the Transmutation Table anything you have in bulk - crops, cobblestone, mob drops. Then build an Energy Collector so EMC generates passively from light.

How do I automate item duplication? Set a target item in an Energy Condenser and feed it EMC - from Collectors via Anti-Matter Relays, or by piping in unwanted items.

How do I power rings and tools? Keep a charged Klein Star in your inventory, or carry the appropriate fuel; charge Klein Stars in an Anti-Matter Relay.

Does it need any other mods? No - ProjectE is standalone and has no library dependencies.

Is it multiplayer-safe? Yes. Knowledge and EMC are tracked per player server-side, and the command family gives admins full control over both.
