Overview#
The Dynamic Trees Biomes O' Plenty Compat Mod is an essential expansion for players seeking a more immersive and realistic forestry experience. This mod bridges the gap between the complex growth mechanics of Dynamic Trees and the vast botanical variety of Biomes O' Plenty (BOP).
Instead of static, instant-growth saplings, trees in BOP biomes now grow dynamically over time, branching out and reacting to their environment. The mod fully replaces standard BOP trees during world generation, ensuring that every forest—from the towering Redwoods to the mystical Magic Groves—features unique, living structures that can be felled realistically.
Dynamic Tree Species#
This compat mod adds dynamic versions of nearly every tree found in Biomes O' Plenty. Each species has unique growth patterns, height limits, and environmental preferences.

Non-Replaced Trees
Certain trees are intentionally left as standard blocks due to their unique shapes or technical complexity:
- Origin Oak: Retains its classic look to preserve the "Origin Valley" aesthetic.
- Empyreal Trees: Too complex for the current dynamic branching system.
- Sacred Oak: Its massive size exceeds standard dynamic tree limits.
- Mangrove: (In older versions) Often excluded due to lack of specific wood types.
Items & Seeds#
The mod replaces traditional saplings with Dynamic Seeds. These seeds are the core of the dynamic growth system.
Seed Mechanics
- Acquisition: Seeds have a chance to drop when a dynamic tree is felled or when its leaves decay.
- Self-Planting: If a seed falls on a compatible soil block (like Dirt, Grass, or Podzol) and has a clear view of the sky, it has a chance to plant itself automatically.
- Experimental Growth: Seeds can be planted manually by right-clicking the ground. Unlike saplings, they do not require a specific light level to stay planted, but they do require light and water (fertility) to grow.
Potions of Transformation
Potions are used to manipulate tree growth or change a tree's species entirely.
- Potion of Transformation: Crafting this with a specific BOP seed allows you to change any existing dynamic tree into that BOP species. Right-click the rooty soil of a tree to apply it.
- Potion of Gigas: Used to transform a tree into its "Mega" variant, if supported (e.g., Mega Redwood).
- Potion of Burgeoning: Significantly accelerates the growth rate of the tree until it reaches maturity.
- Potion of Depletion: Permanently halts a tree's growth, useful for decorative trees that you want to keep at a specific size.
Mechanics & World Generation#
Rooty Soil
When a seed is planted, the block beneath it transforms into Rooty Soil. This block serves as the "brain" of the tree, managing its nutrients, growth speed, and health.
- Fertility: Rooty soil can be fertilized using Bone Meal to speed up growth.
- Harvesting: Breaking the Rooty Soil will cause the entire tree to die and eventually disappear, though it is more efficient to chop the base of the trunk.
Realistic Felling
Dynamic trees do not float in the air. When the bottom-most log (the trunk base) is broken with an axe, the entire tree will fall over.
- Yield: The amount of wood and sticks dropped is proportional to the size of the tree's branches and trunk.
- Safety: Be careful when felling massive trees like Redwoods, as the falling logs can cause damage to players and the surrounding terrain.
Biome-Dependent Growth
The climate of a Biomes O' Plenty biome directly affects how well a tree grows. A Palm tree will thrive in the Tropics but will grow extremely slowly or not at all in a Snowy Coniferous Forest. This encourages players to plant trees in their native habitats for maximum wood production.
