Overview#
Embers Rekindled is a reimagining of the original Embers mod, centered around the concept of 'Dwarven Magic.' Unlike traditional magic mods that rely on mana or spells, Embers focuses on industrial-style machinery, heat, and pressure. The core of the mod is Ember, a finite energy source extracted from the bedrock layer of the world. Players progress by building multi-block structures, managing energy beams, and mastering the art of metallurgy and alchemy.
The mod is highly data-driven, allowing modpack creators to customize recipes for melting, stamping, mixing, and alchemy via datapacks. It introduces a unique aesthetic of brass, copper, and glowing orange energy, emphasizing a mechanical approach to mystical arts.
Getting Started#
To begin your journey into dwarven magic, you must first locate the Ancient Codex. This item serves as the primary in-game manual and can be found in various underground structures or crafted.
The Ancient Codex
The Codex provides detailed instructions on every machine and mechanic. It is divided into categories: Fundamentals, Metallurgy, Alchemy, and Tinkering.
Finding Ember
Ember is not found in the air or in plants; it resides in the bedrock. To see where Ember is most concentrated, you will need an Ember Detector. This handheld device indicates the 'Ember Stability' of a chunk. Higher stability means more energy can be extracted before the chunk is depleted.
The Ember Bore
The Ember Bore is the first major machine you will build. It must be placed at the lowest possible levels of the world (near Bedrock). When fueled with coal or other combustible materials, it drills into the ground to extract Ember Grit, Ember Shards, and Ember Crystals.
Ember Management#
Once you have raw Ember items, you must convert them into usable energy and transport them to your machines.
Ember Production
| Machine | Function |
|---|---|
| Ember Activator | Converts Ember Shards and Crystals into raw Ember energy by burning them. |
| Pressure Refiner | A more advanced version of the Activator that uses water and lava to increase efficiency through steam pressure. |
Ember Transport
Ember energy is moved through the air using beams rather than wires.
- Ember Emitter: Attached to an energy source (like an Activator), it fires a beam of energy toward a Receiver.
- Ember Receiver: Attached to a machine that requires energy, it catches beams from Emitters.
- Ember Relay: Acts as a midpoint to redirect beams over long distances or around corners.
- Caminite Lever: Used to toggle Emitters on and off.
Metallurgy#
Metallurgy is the process of melting ores into liquid form and shaping them into useful components.
The Melter
The Melter is a multi-block structure that uses Ember energy to liquefy metals. It has an internal tank that can hold a specific amount of molten metal.
The Stamper
To turn molten metal back into solid items, you use a Stamper. It consists of a Stamper Base (which holds the liquid) and the Stamper itself (which holds a Stamp).
Available Stamps:
- Ingot Stamp: Creates standard ingots.
- Plate Stamp: Creates metal plates for armor and machinery.
- Gear Stamp: Creates gears for advanced components.
- Bar Stamp: Creates metal bars.
Mixer Centrifuge
This machine allows you to combine two different molten metals to create alloys. The most important alloy in the mod is Dawnstone, created by mixing molten Gold and molten Copper in a 1:1 ratio.
| Alloy | Ingredients | Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Dawnstone | Gold + Copper | Core material for high-tier Embers machinery and tools. |
| Electrum | Gold + Silver | Used in advanced circuitry and specific alchemical recipes. |
| Bronze | Copper + Tin | Durable material for early-to-mid game tools. |
Alchemy#
Alchemy in Embers Rekindled is a high-tier mechanic used to transmute materials and create powerful artifacts. It revolves around the Exchange Tablet.
The Exchange Tablet
The Tablet is the center of the alchemical ritual. You place the base item on the tablet and surround it with Pedestals containing 'Aspect' items (usually different types of metal ingots).
Beam Cannon
To trigger the alchemical reaction, an Ember Beam Cannon must fire a high-intensity burst of energy into the Exchange Tablet. If the aspects and energy levels are correct, the item is transformed. If incorrect, the process may fail, producing Alchemical Waste.
Aspects
Alchemy requires specific ratios of the five primary metals, known as Aspects:
- Iron
- Copper
- Silver
- Gold
- Lead
Equipment and Tools#
Embers Rekindled adds a variety of unique tools and armor that utilize the mod's mechanics.
Clockwork Tools
These tools (Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel) do not use durability in the traditional sense. Instead, they have an internal Ember reservoir. When fueled, they are significantly faster and more effective than diamond tools.
The Tyrfing
A legendary blade that does not deal flat damage. Instead, its damage scales based on the target's armor value. The more protected an enemy is, the more damage the Tyrfing deals, making it the ultimate weapon against armored foes.
Ashen Cloak
A set of armor that provides moderate protection but can be upgraded with various Augments.
Augments
Tools and armor can be placed in a Tinker's Lens or Smithing Table (depending on version) to apply augments:
- Ember Bulb: Increases Ember storage.
- Resonating Bell: Allows the tool to detect nearby ores.
- Blast Core: Adds explosive power to attacks.
- Focal Lens: Increases the range of Ember-based weapons.
Mobs#
The mod introduces mechanical constructs that guard ancient secrets.
Ancient Golem
Ancient Golems are small, hostile automatons found near ruins or summoned through failed alchemical experiments. They are made of stone and copper and fire small projectiles at the player.
- Health: 40 (20 hearts)
- Damage: 6 (3 hearts)
- Drops: Ancient Motive Core, Copper Ingots, Ember Shards.
- Behavior: They remain stationary until a player enters their range, at which point they begin firing rapidly.
Ancient Knight
A larger, more dangerous version of the Golem, often found guarding the deeper chambers of dwarven structures. They possess high armor and can deal devastating melee damage.
World Generation#
Embers Rekindled adds several ores and structures to the world to support its progression.
Ores
- Copper Ore: Common, used for basic machinery.
- Lead Ore: Used for pipes and radiation shielding in advanced machines.
- Silver Ore: Used for mirrors and high-end alchemical components.
- Aluminum Ore: Used for lightweight structural components.
- Nickel Ore: Used in specific alloys.
Structures
- Dwarven Ruins: Small underground rooms containing chests with Ancient Motive Cores and the Ancient Codex.
- Ember Wells: Rare surface structures that indicate a high concentration of Ember in the chunk below.
Technical Information#
For modpack creators and advanced users, Embers Rekindled provides extensive data-driven capabilities.
Custom Recipes
All machine recipes are handled via the Minecraft Recipe Serializer system. You can add or modify recipes for the following:
embers:melting: Defines what items can be melted and how much fluid they produce.embers:stamping: Defines the output of the Stamper based on the fluid and stamp used.embers:mixing: Defines alloy results from the Mixer Centrifuge.embers:alchemy: Defines the required aspects and ingredients for the Exchange Tablet.
Configuration
The mod's config file allows for the adjustment of:
- Ember generation rates per chunk.
- Machine processing speeds.
- Tool damage and Ember consumption values.
- Ore generation frequency and vein size.
