Overview#
Modular Force Field System (MFFS) is a sophisticated technical mod designed to provide players with near-impenetrable defense mechanisms. Utilizing a unique energy medium known as Fortron, the mod allows for the creation of customizable force fields that can protect bases from explosions, players, and environmental hazards.
The system is entirely modular, meaning every aspect of a force field—its shape, size, position, and secondary effects—is determined by the combination of cards and modules inserted into the machinery. Whether you need a simple protective dome or a complex automated mining field that disintegrates blocks, MFFS provides the tools necessary for high-level base engineering.
Core Mechanics#
Fortron Energy System
Fortron is the lifeblood of MFFS. It is a liquid-like energy state generated by converting standard Minecraft energy (FE/RF/EU) through a Coercion Deriver.
- Generation: Energy is fed into a Coercion Deriver, which produces Fortron.
- Storage: Fortron is stored in Fortron Capacitors.
- Transmission: MFFS machines do not require cables. Instead, they use a Frequency System. By placing a Frequency Card with a matching ID into multiple machines, they will wirelessly transmit Fortron across the dimension.
The Frequency System
To link machines, players must use a Frequency Card. Shift-right-clicking the card while holding it allows you to set a frequency. This card is then placed into the dedicated slot in the Coercion Deriver, Fortron Capacitor, and Force Field Projector. Machines on the same frequency will share a unified Fortron pool.
Primary Blocks#
The mod revolves around four primary machines, each serving a specific role in the defense network.
| Block Name | Function | Key Features |
|---|---|---|
| Coercion Deriver | Energy Converter | Converts external power into Fortron. Can be upgraded with Speed and Capacity modules. |
| Fortron Capacitor | Energy Storage/Hub | Acts as the central battery and wireless transmitter for the network. |
| Force Field Projector | Field Generator | Uses Shape Cards and Modules to project the actual force field. |
| Biometric Identifier | Security Controller | Manages user permissions, determining who can pass through or modify fields. |
| Interdiction Matrix | Active Defense | An advanced security block that can kill entities, confiscate items, or warn intruders. |
Coercion Deriver
The Coercion Deriver is the starting point. It has two modes:
- Derive: Converts FE/RF into Fortron.
- Integrate: Converts Fortron back into FE/RF (useful for portable power).
Fortron Capacitor
The Capacitor manages the distribution of Fortron. It has a range (expandable via Scale Modules) within which it can wirelessly power Projectors. It is essential to keep this block protected, as its destruction will cause all connected force fields to fail.
Force Field Projector
The Projector is the most complex block. It requires a Shape Card in its central slot to function. Without a shape card, no field will be generated. It also features slots for modules that modify the field's properties.
Shape Cards and Modules#
Shape Cards
Shape Cards define the geometry of the force field. They are placed in the center slot of the Projector.
- Cube: Generates a six-sided box.
- Sphere: Generates a perfect globe.
- Dome: Generates a half-sphere, ideal for surface bases.
- Cylinder: Generates a vertical or horizontal tube.
- Pyramid: Generates a four-sided sloped structure.
Modules
Modules are placed in the peripheral slots of the Projector to alter the field's behavior.
| Module | Effect |
|---|---|
| Scale Module | Increases the size of the field in a specific direction or overall. |
| Translation Module | Offsets the center of the field away from the Projector block. |
| Rotation Module | Rotates the field geometry (essential for Cylinders and Pyramids). |
| Speed Module | Increases the rate at which the field blocks are placed or scanned. |
| Capacity Module | Increases the internal Fortron buffer of the machine. |
| Shock Module | Deals damage to any entity that touches the force field. |
| Sponge Module | Automatically removes liquids (water/lava) inside the field area. |
| Disintegration Module | Slowly breaks blocks within the field area and drops them as items. |
| Fusion Module | Allows two separate force fields to merge seamlessly without overlapping textures. |
| Camouflage Module | Allows the force field to take on the appearance of any block placed in the module slot. |
| Glow Module | Causes the force field blocks to emit light. |
Security and Permissions#
Biometric Identifier
The Biometric Identifier is used to whitelist or blacklist players. To use it, you must link it to your network using a Frequency Card.
- Identification Card: Place a blank card in the slot to create a card assigned to a specific player.
- Permissions: You can toggle specific rights for each player card:
- Configure: Allows the player to open machine GUIs.
- Stay: Allows the player to stand inside a field that would otherwise kill or eject them.
- Remote Control: Allows the use of the MFFS Remote on the network.
- Block Alter: Allows the player to place/break blocks within a protected zone.
Interdiction Matrix
The Interdiction Matrix is an aggressive defense block. It scans a defined area and applies "Interdiction" to any unauthorized entity.
- Anti-Personnel: Kills players not in the Biometric Identifier.
- Anti-Spawn: Prevents mobs from spawning in the radius.
- Confiscate: Removes items from an intruder's inventory.
- Block Access: Prevents players from interacting with blocks in the area.
Items and Tools#
Specialized Tools
- MFFS Multi-Tool: A versatile tool used to configure machines. Shift-right-clicking cycles through modes like "Wrench" (to rotate/pick up blocks) and "Field Linker."
- Remote Controller: Allows the player to toggle the Force Field Projector from a distance. It must be synced to the Projector's frequency.
Crafting Components
Most MFFS recipes require high-tier materials:
- Steel/Iron Plates: Used for basic casing.
- Focus Matrix: The primary crafting ingredient for modules, usually made from diamonds, redstone, and iron.
- Blank Card: The base for Frequency and Identification cards.
Configuration#
MFFS includes a robust configuration file (mffs.cfg) allowing server administrators to balance the mod:
- Fortron Usage Multiplier: Adjusts how much energy is required to maintain fields.
- Interdiction Matrix Settings: Can disable the 'Confiscate' or 'Kill' functions for PvE servers.
- Max Field Size: Limits the maximum radius a Projector can reach to prevent server lag.
- Load Chunks: Determines if the Projector should keep the field chunks loaded in memory.
