Fun Ores takes mining to the next level by moving beyond traditional metals. While earlier versions of the mod focused on industrial metals like Copper and Tin, the modern versions for 1.13.2 and above specialize in Mob Drop Ores and Meat Ores. This allows players to obtain essential mob resources—such as gunpowder, ender pearls, and even raw beef—directly from the earth.

The mod is designed for high compatibility and customization. It features a robust configuration system that allows players and modpack creators to define their own ore veins using JSON files, effectively allowing any block in the game to be generated as an ore. In these modern versions, all legacy machines (like the Alloy Smelter) and metal-specific items have been removed to focus entirely on the unique mob-resource mining experience.

Mob Ores correspond to hostile creatures found throughout the Overworld and the Nether. These ores are rarer than standard coal or iron and provide a peaceful alternative to hunting dangerous mobs. Some high-tier drops are provided as Shards, requiring four to be crafted into a full item.

Hostile Ore Varieties

Meat Ores allow players to "farm" animal products without the need for breeding or slaughtering livestock. These ores typically drop the same items as their respective mobs, including secondary drops like leather or wool.

To balance the acquisition of powerful items (like Ender Pearls or Blaze Rods), Fun Ores introduces Shards. When mining high-tier mob ores, you will receive shards instead of the full item. This prevents players from obtaining end-game gear too quickly while still rewarding exploration.

• Ghast Shard: Dropped by Ghast Ore.

Fortune and Loot Tables

All ores in Fun Ores utilize the standard Minecraft Loot Table system. This means:

1. Fortune Enchantment: Using a pickaxe with Fortune will significantly increase the number of items dropped from mob and meat ores.
2. Silk Touch: Using Silk Touch will drop the ore block itself, which can be used for decoration or processed later.
3. Customization: Because they use loot tables, server admins can modify the data/funores/loot_tables files to change exactly what each ore drops.

The primary recipes in the 1.16.5 version involve converting shards into their full item counterparts. These are all 2x2 shapeless or shaped crafting recipes.

Common Config

Located at config/funores/common.toml, this file contains general settings:

• Logging: Enable logOreSpawns to debug where and how many ores are generating in your world.
• Endermite Spawn Chance: Adjust how often mining Enderman Ore triggers an Endermite attack.

JSON Ore Generation

Located in the config/funores/ore_generation/ folder, this system allows you to define custom veins. Each JSON file defines:

• Block: The block to be spawned (can be any block, including those from other mods).
• Vein Size: The number of blocks per cluster.
• Vein Count: How many clusters spawn per chunk.
• Height Range: The minimum and maximum Y-levels for generation.
• Weights: If a vein contains multiple block types, you can assign weights to determine which blocks appear more frequently within that single vein.
