Overview#
Go Fish is a Fabric mod designed to transform Minecraft's fishing from a repetitive chore into an immersive, rewarding progression system. Taking heavy inspiration from the fishing mechanics of Stardew Valley and Terraria, the mod introduces a vast array of new fish species, rare loot crates, and specialized equipment.
The mod encourages players to explore different biomes, dimensions, and even monitor the lunar cycle to complete their collection. It is built with a specific design philosophy that rewards manual effort and early investment in fishing gear.
Design Philosophy#
Go Fish is balanced around three core principles:
- Manual Experience: Fishing is intended to be a manual activity. The mod actively discourages and aims to eradicate AFK fishing contraptions. Loot tables are balanced with the assumption that players are manually reeling in every catch.
- Slower but Rewarding Loot: While fishing provides access to rare resources (including Netherite and Diamonds), it is designed to be slower than active methods like mining or raiding. It serves as a relaxing alternative rather than a replacement for exploration.
- Progression and Fun: The mod introduces a sense of growth. Players start with basic gear and eventually discover artifacts and trinkets that boost fishing speed and luck, making the late-game experience significantly more efficient.
