Fast Paintings Wiki

Fast Paintings turns Minecraft paintings into solid blocks that snap flush to walls, giving you pixel-perfect control over placing and combining wall art.

Overview#

Fast Paintings replaces the vanilla painting entity with a lightweight block-based painting system. Instead of a loose entity that snaps to a random free size, every painting is now a thin block that hugs the wall exactly where you place it.

Because paintings are blocks, they are stable and predictable: they never pop off the wall, they are easy to place and break, and you get full control over their position. Placing several painting blocks next to each other combines them into one larger picture, so you can build art of any size you want. Every classic vanilla painting variant is supported.

This is a 9Minecraft Studios port to Minecraft 26.2. It requires the Moonlight library.

Getting Started#

  1. Install the Moonlight library (required dependency) alongside Fast Paintings.
  2. Obtain a painting item exactly like in vanilla — craft it with 8 sticks around 1 wool, or grab it from the Creative inventory.
  3. Hold the painting in your main hand and right-click a wall block to place a single painting tile flush against it.
  4. Keep placing tiles next to each other to grow the picture, or break a tile with your hand or any tool to pick it back up.

Features#

Block-based paintings

Paintings become thin blocks that snap flat against any wall surface, with none of the random sizing or loose placement of vanilla painting entities.

One-by-one placement

Place a single painting tile at a time, exactly on the block you are pointing at — perfect for lining up art on a wall.

Seamless combining

Place painting tiles directly next to each other and they automatically merge into a single larger painting, letting you build 2x2, 4x2, or any custom-size artwork.

All vanilla variants

Every classic Minecraft painting motif is available, keeping the familiar art while upgrading how it is placed.

Easy to place and remove

Since paintings are blocks, they break and drop like any other block and can be picked back up, so redecorating is quick and safe.

Customizable models

The painting block model can be customized through resource packs for players who want a different frame or look.

Placing & Combining Paintings#

Single tile: aim at a wall and right-click with a painting in hand. One 1x1 painting block appears flush against that wall face, showing a random supported motif.

Larger art: place additional painting tiles on the same wall directly adjacent to an existing one. Neighbouring tiles link up and render as a single, larger painting spanning all of them — so a 2-wide by 2-tall square of tiles becomes one 2x2 painting.

Facing: each painting faces away from the wall it is attached to, so it always shows its art toward the open side of the room.

Removing: break any tile of a combined painting to take just that piece back; the rest of the artwork stays in place.

Configuration#

Fast Paintings uses the Moonlight config system, so its options live in the standard config screen / config folder (fastpaintings-common.toml and fastpaintings-client.toml).

  • NBT drop mode – controls how a painting's data (its chosen variant) is preserved when the block is broken and dropped, so you can keep the exact artwork you placed.
  • Client model options – client-side toggles for how painting blocks are rendered.

All options are loader-agnostic and can be changed in-game via the mod's config screen or by editing the TOML files directly.

Troubleshooting & FAQ#

Paintings do not appear / the game crashes on load – make sure the Moonlight library is installed; Fast Paintings depends on it.

A painting won't place – you must right-click a solid wall surface; paintings need a block behind them to hang on.

Can I still use normal-sized paintings? – yes. Place a single tile for a 1x1 painting, or combine tiles for anything larger.

Do old vanilla paintings still work? – existing vanilla painting entities are unaffected; this mod adds the new block-based placement on top.

Which loaders are supported? – this 9Minecraft Studios build ships for both major mod loaders for Minecraft 26.2.
