Overview#
Gendustry is a high-tech expansion for the Forestry mod, designed to remove the tedious randomness of traditional bee and tree breeding. It introduces a suite of machines powered by RF, EU, or MJ that allow players to extract specific genetic traits (alleles), combine them into templates, and imprint them onto organisms.
Key features include the Industrial Apiary, which can be customized with various upgrades to emulate any biome or automate production, and the Mutatron, which forces mutations with 100% success rates using a specialized fluid called Mutagen.
Machines#
Gendustry machines are the core of the mod. They generally require power (RF/EU/MJ) and often consume Genetics Labware to operate.
Industrial Apiary
The Industrial Apiary is a powered alternative to the Forestry Alveary. It features four upgrade slots and a built-in 9-slot inventory for products. Unlike standard apiaries, it does not use frames; instead, its stats are modified by installed Upgrade Cards.
Mutagen Producer

Mutatron & Advanced Mutatron
Used to force mutations between two species.
- Mutatron: Requires a Princess, a Drone, and Mutagen. It produces a Queen of a random possible mutation.
- Advanced Mutatron: Allows the player to select the specific mutation result from a list of possibilities.
Genetic Sampler
Consumes a bee, tree sapling, or butterfly and a Blank Gene Sample to extract one random genetic trait (allele) into a Gene Sample. The organism is destroyed in the process.
Genetic Imprinter
Takes a Genetic Template and applies all its stored traits to a Princess, Drone, or Sapling. This allows for the creation of "Super Bees" with perfect traits (e.g., Fastest Speed, Maximum Fertility).
DNA Extractor & Protein Liquifier
- DNA Extractor: Converts unwanted bees/saplings into Liquid DNA.
- Protein Liquifier: Converts raw meat (Beef, Pork, Chicken) into Liquid Protein.
Genetic Replicator
Uses Liquid DNA, Liquid Protein, and a full Genetic Template (13/13 traits) to clone a new organism. Note: Bees created this way are always of Ignoble stock.
Genetic Manipulation#
Genetic manipulation in Gendustry revolves around the 13 chromosomes that define a Forestry organism.
The 13 Bee Chromosomes
- Species: The breed of the bee.
- Speed: Production rate (e.g., Fastest, Slowest).
- Lifespan: How long the queen lives.
- Fertility: Number of drones produced per cycle.
- Flower Provider: Type of flowers required.
- Territory: Range of the bee's effect.
- Effect: Special abilities (e.g., Poison, Regeneration, Aggressive).
- Temperature Tolerance: Resistance to heat/cold.
- Humidity Tolerance: Resistance to damp/arid conditions.
- Diurnal: Ability to work during the day.
- Nocturnal: Ability to work at night.
- Tolerant Flyer: Ability to work in rain/thunder.
- Cave Dwelling: Ability to work underground without sky access.
Process Flow
- Sampling: Use the Genetic Sampler to get specific traits from drones.
- Template Creation: Combine a Genetic Template with Gene Samples in a crafting grid to build a master blueprint.
- Imprinting: Use the Genetic Imprinter to apply that blueprint to a Princess and a Drone to stabilize the line.
Upgrades and Covers#
Upgrades are installed into the Industrial Apiary to modify its behavior. Most upgrades increase power consumption.

Machine Covers
Covers can be applied to the sides of Gendustry machines to add utility.
- Import Cover: Automatically pulls items from adjacent inventories.
- Eject Cover: Automatically pushes items to adjacent inventories or pipes.
- Error Sensor Cover: (Industrial Apiary only) Emits a redstone signal if the apiary has an error (e.g., "No Flowers").
Tools and Items#
Industrial Grafter
A powered version of the Forestry Grafter. It has a 100% sapling drop rate and can break leaves in a 3x3x3 or 5x5x5 area. It stores 1,000,000 RF.
Scooporator MX200 Turbo
A powered scoop that never breaks.
- Left-Click: Functions as a standard scoop.
- Shift + Right-Click: Picks up a wild hive as a block (consumes significantly more energy).
Pollen Collection Kit
A single-use item used to collect pollen from tree leaves for advanced arboriculture. Crafted with Genetics Labware, paper, and string.
Genetics Labware
A consumable item required by most Gendustry machines for genetic processing. Crafted using Diamonds and Glass Panes (yields 16 per craft).

- Bee Receptacle: Weighted Pressure Plate (Gold), Redstone, Bronze, and Glass.
- Power Module: Gold Ingots, Pistons, and Bronze Gears.
- Genetics Processor: Diamonds, Redstone, Ender Pearl, and Nether Quartz.
- Environmental Processor: Lapis Lazuli, Gold Ingot, Redstone, and Nether Quartz.
