Guide to Vein Mining: an enchantment that breaks a whole connected vein of the same block at once, how to get and use it, the full feature set, and every configuration option.

Overview#

Vein Mining adds an enchantment that lets you break an entire connected vein of the same block at once. When you mine a single block with an enchanted tool, every matching block connected to it breaks together, so a whole cluster of ore comes out in one action instead of chipping away at each block one at a time.

It works on ores such as coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and emerald, and it can also be set up to work on logs and other connected blocks. Because the effect lives on an enchantment applied to your tools, you still swing a normal pickaxe or axe and stay in full control of when a vein breaks - keeping the survival feel while cutting out the repetition. It runs in both single-player and on multiplayer servers.

Getting Started#

Vein Mining is powered by an enchantment, so you apply it to a tool just like any other enchantment:

  1. Get the Vein Mining enchantment from the enchanting table, from enchanted books, or through your usual enchantment sources.
  2. Apply it to a pickaxe (for ores) or an axe (for logs) - whichever tool you want to vein-mine with.
  3. Mine any block that is part of a vein. Every connected block of the same type breaks at once and all of the drops are yours.

An optional activation key lets you decide exactly when vein mining kicks in - for example by holding or releasing a key while you mine - so you can switch between whole-vein and single-block breaking on the fly.

Features#

  • Whole-vein breaking - mine one block with an enchanted tool and the entire connected vein of the same block breaks with it.
  • Great for ores - clear coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and emerald deposits in a single action.
  • Works on logs and more - configurable block groups let you vein-mine logs and other connected blocks too.
  • Enchantment-based - the effect is applied to your tools, so ordinary mining still works exactly as normal.
  • Activation key - choose precisely when vein mining triggers instead of it firing on every swing.
  • Highly configurable - set the maximum vein size, define which blocks count as a vein, and tune durability cost.
  • Single-player and multiplayer - fully server-friendly.
  • NeoForge and Fabric - available for both mod loaders.

Configuration#

Vein Mining is highly configurable so you can balance it for survival, skyblock or a modpack:

  • Maximum vein size - cap how many blocks a single vein-mine will break, so large deposits stay balanced and performance-friendly.
  • Block groups - define which blocks are treated as a vein (ores by default; add logs or other connected blocks as you like).
  • Tool durability behaviour - control how much wear a vein-mine costs, so breaking a big vein uses a fair amount of durability.
  • Activation controls - use the activation key to decide when vein mining is active, for example holding or releasing a key while mining.
  • Diagonal / adjacency rules - control how far the vein search spreads between connected blocks.

Adjust these to make vein mining as generous or as strict as you want for your world.

Tips#

  • Keep the maximum vein size sensible on survival worlds so a single swing doesn't clear an entire cave and drain your tool.
  • Put Vein Mining on a high-durability tool (or one with Unbreaking) if you plan to clear big ore fields.
  • Add logs to your block groups to turn an enchanted axe into a fast tree-clearing tool.
  • Use the activation key to switch between whole-vein and single-block mining without changing tools.
  • It shines when gathering bulk resources for large building and redstone projects.

FAQ#

How do I vein-mine a whole vein? Apply the Vein Mining enchantment to a tool, then mine any block that is part of a vein - all connected blocks of the same type break at once.

Where do I get the enchantment? From the enchanting table, enchanted books, or your usual enchantment sources, then apply it like any other enchantment.

Does it work on logs? Yes - the block groups are configurable, so you can enable logs and other connected blocks in addition to ores.

Will it destroy my whole world in one hit? No - the maximum vein size and block groups are configurable, so you decide exactly how large a vein can be and which blocks count.

Does it work on servers? Yes - it works in both single-player and multiplayer, on NeoForge and Fabric.
