Overview#

Minecraft Comes Alive Reborn (MCA Reborn) is the definitive successor to the original MCA mod, designed for modern Minecraft versions like 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. It completely replaces the traditional 'squid-man' villagers with human NPCs. These NPCs have genders (male and female), unique names, distinct personalities, and a mood system that affects their interactions with the player.

Key features include:

  • Social Interaction: Build relationships through chatting, joking, and gifting.
  • Family Life: Get married, have children, and watch them grow from babies to adults.
  • Village Management: Rise through the ranks from a Peasant to a Monarch, managing taxes and building specialized structures.
  • Genetics: Children inherit physical traits from their parents, including skin tone, hair color, and eye color.
  • Advanced Mechanics: A custom death and revival system involving the Grim Reaper boss.

Getting Started#

Upon first entering a world with MCA Reborn installed, players are greeted with the Setup Menu. This is triggered by the Crystal Ball, an item that allows you to define your character's identity.

The Crystal Ball

If you do not receive the Crystal Ball automatically, it can be crafted or obtained from a village. Using it allows you to:

  1. Define Gender: Choose whether your character is Male or Female.
  2. Set Appearance: Customize your basic look.
  3. Choose a Destiny: Select your starting scenario, such as 'I have a family' (starts with a spouse and children), 'I live in a village' (starts in a nearby village), or 'I am a traveler' (standard start).

Villager Interactions#

Interacting with villagers is the core of the mod. Right-clicking a villager opens the Interaction Menu, displaying their name, profession, mood, personality, and your current relationship standing (Hearts).

Relationship Hearts

Hearts represent your standing with an NPC. They can range from -100 to 100.

  • 0-49 Hearts: Acquaintance/Friend.
  • 50-99 Hearts: Close Friend/Potential Partner.
  • 100 Hearts: Marriage Material.

Interaction Types

Action Effect Notes
Chat Small Heart Increase The safest way to build rapport.
Joke Moderate Increase/Decrease Depends heavily on the villager's personality.
Give Gift Variable Increase Diamonds and flowers are generally well-received.
Shake Hand Small Increase A formal greeting.
Tell Story Moderate Increase Good for building deeper bonds.
Flirt/Kiss Large Increase/Decrease Only successful if you have high hearts and a romantic relationship.
Insult Heart Decrease Lowers relationship and mood.

Personalities and Moods

Villagers have traits like Outgoing, Shy, Grumpy, or Kind. A villager's mood (Happy, Sad, Angry, etc.) fluctuates based on recent interactions, village events, and even the weather. High taxes or the death of a neighbor will lower the village's collective mood.

Marriage and Family#

Once you have built a strong relationship with a villager, you can start a family.

Engagement and Wedding

  1. Engagement: Reach 50 hearts and gift the villager an Engagement Ring. If they accept, they become your fiancé.
  2. Marriage: Reach 100 hearts and gift a Wedding Ring. You are now married and can access the 'Procreate' option.

Children

By selecting the Procreate option with your spouse, you have a chance to receive a Baby (item).

  • Growth: Keep the baby in your inventory for 20 minutes (real-time) to let it grow into a Toddler.
  • Placement: Once it becomes a toddler, right-click the ground to place them. They will now walk and interact as an entity.
  • Stages: Toddler -> Child -> Adult. You can accelerate growth by gifting them Golden Apples.

Chores

Children can be assigned chores once they reach the 'Child' stage. You must provide them with the appropriate tools in their inventory:

  • Farming: Requires a Hoe.
  • Woodcutting: Requires an Axe.
  • Mining: Requires a Pickaxe.
  • Hunting: Requires a Sword or Bow.
  • Fishing: Requires a Fishing Rod.

Village Management and Ranks#

MCA Reborn introduces a progression system where you can become the leader of a village using the Blueprint item.

Ranks

Rank Requirements Abilities
Peasant Default Basic interactions.
Merchant 20 Avg Hearts, Storage Building Can impose taxes.
Noble 40 Avg Hearts, Big House Can set birth limits.
Mayor 60 Avg Hearts, Town Hall Can set marriage limits and hire Guards.
Monarch 80 Avg Hearts, Castle/Palace Full control, can order executions of criminals.

Specialized Buildings

Using the Blueprint, you can designate areas as specific buildings to unlock benefits:

  • Inn: Attracts travelers and new potential villagers.
  • Library: Increases tax revenue by 50%.
  • Infirmary: Reduces the chance of zombie infection by 50%.
  • Graveyard: Required for villagers to be buried properly upon death.
  • Armory: Upgrades the equipment of village guards.

The Grim Reaper and Death#

Death is a significant mechanic in MCA Reborn. When a villager dies, they leave behind a Tombstone if a graveyard is available.

Summoning the Grim Reaper

To revive a fallen villager, you must face the Grim Reaper.

  1. Build an altar: Three Obsidian Pillars (2 blocks high) with an Emerald Block in the center.
  2. At night, ignite the top of the pillars and the emerald block.
  3. The Reaper will appear. He has 300 HP, can fly, teleports, and is immune to arrows during certain phases.

Revival Mechanics

  • The Scythe: Dropped by the Grim Reaper. You can use it to harvest a soul (by killing another NPC) and then right-click a tombstone to revive the deceased. Note: Revived villagers may return as Infected.
  • Staff of Life: Crafted by combining the Scythe with a Nether Star and an End Rod. This allows for revival without sacrificing another soul.
