Overview#
Pollachius is a comprehensive visual overhaul for Minecraft, designed by creator cheezlordy. Operating at an 8x8 resolution, it significantly simplifies the game's textures while maintaining a high level of visual distinction. The pack is characterized by its "boxy" and grid-like aesthetic, which emphasizes squares and geometric patterns to create a clean, plastic-like appearance across all landscapes.
Key Features
- 8x8 Resolution: Halves the standard vanilla resolution for a minimalist look and improved performance.
- AAP-64 Palette: Utilizes a specific 64-color palette known for its bold, vivid, and saturated tones.
- Optimization: Highly optimized for low-end PCs, providing a significant FPS boost compared to vanilla textures.
- Visual Clarity: Designed with PvP and technical play in mind, making blocks and entities easier to distinguish at a glance.
Visual Style & Palette#
The core of Pollachius is its commitment to a geometric and minimal style. Every block and item is retworked to fit into a grid-based system. This approach removes visual noise, making the world feel organized and "toy-like."
The AAP-64 Palette
The pack exclusively uses the AAP-64 color palette, which results in:
- Greener Grass: Landscapes appear more lush and vibrant.
- Golden Lava: Lava is transformed into a bright, liquid gold color.
- Rich Woods: Wood types like Oak and Mangrove have deeper, more distinct reddish-brown and saturated tones.
- Vivid Flora: Flowers and vegetation use high-contrast reds, blues, and yellows to stand out against the terrain.
Entities (Mobs)#
Pollachius provides a complete visual redesign for many of Minecraft's iconic creatures. While their behaviors and stats remain identical to vanilla, their models and textures are simplified into boxy, high-contrast forms.

Blocks & Environment#
The environmental blocks in Pollachius are designed to tile perfectly, creating a seamless grid across the world. This is particularly noticeable in large-scale builds and natural terrain.
Key Block Overhauls
- Mangrove Set: The Mangrove log, planks, door, and trapdoor feature a deep, saturated red-brown color with simplified wood grain patterns.
- Enchanting Table: The floating book on the table is rendered in a simplified 8x8 style with clear, vibrant pages.
- End Crystals: These feature a more crystalline, geometric look with a simplified beam texture.
- Nether Blocks: Magma blocks, Nether Wart blocks, and Red Nether Bricks are adjusted to be more distinct, reducing the "noisy" look of the Nether.
- Bone Blocks: Simplified into clean, off-white cubes, making them excellent for modern or minimalist builds.
- Beacon Beams: The light beam is rendered as a solid, vibrant pillar of light with a clean edge.
Items & Equipment#
Items in the inventory and in-hand have been updated to match the 8x8 resolution. This includes tools, weapons, and miscellaneous objects.
- Trident: Features a simplified, three-pronged geometric design. The Riptide animation is also updated to a cleaner, boxy spiral.
- Fishing Hook: The bobber and hook are simplified for better visibility during fishing.
- Inventory Icons: Almost every block and item icon has been redrawn. They use more vibrant colors and thicker outlines to ensure they are easily identifiable in the player's hotbar or chests.
User Interface (UI)#
Pollachius provides a clean and modernized UI that focuses on usability and aesthetic consistency.
- HUD: The health, hunger, and armor bars are simplified into clean, vibrant squares.
- Container Sprites: Chests, furnaces, and other containers feature a flat, dark-themed background with high-contrast borders.
- Recipe Book: The GUI for the recipe book is streamlined with simplified icons.
- Widgets & Buttons: All buttons, including the accessibility button and server list widgets, are updated to a flat, boxy style.
- Title Screen: The main Minecraft logo and splash text are often modified to fit the Pollachius branding in supported versions.
Performance & Optimization#
Due to its 8x8 resolution, Pollachius is one of the most performance-friendly resource packs available. By reducing the number of pixels the game needs to render for every block and entity, it provides:
- Higher FPS: Significant frame rate improvements on older hardware.
- Reduced VRAM Usage: Smaller texture files take up less memory.
- PvP Advantage: The lack of visual clutter and high-contrast colors makes it easier to track players and projectiles during combat.
Variations#
The Pollachius series includes several variations to suit different player preferences:
- Plana Pollachius: A "flat" variation of the pack that removes even more detail and shading, focusing entirely on a grid-like aesthetic and maximum visual clarity.
- Pollachius Potens: A 16x16 version of the pack for players who enjoy the boxy style but want slightly more detail than the 8x8 version provides.
- Bedrock Edition: A dedicated port for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, ensuring cross-platform consistency for players on consoles and mobile.
Installation & Compatibility#
Pollachius is compatible with a wide range of Minecraft versions, from 1.7.10 up to 1.21.x.
