Overview#
Savage and Ravage is a major expansion for the Illager faction in Minecraft, developed by Team Abnormals. The mod aims to make Illagers more diverse and threatening by adding new specialized units like the Griefer and Executioner, while also reworking how Raids are triggered and progressed.
Unlike vanilla Minecraft, where killing a Raid Captain immediately grants the Bad Omen effect, Savage and Ravage introduces the Sinister Horn, giving players control over when a raid begins. The mod also introduces Gloomy Stone, a new building material found in overhauled Illager structures, and various items that provide tactical advantages in combat.

Mobs#
The mod introduces several new Illager variants, each with unique behaviors and combat roles. These mobs primarily appear during Raids or at Illager Outposts.
Elite Illagers
| Mob | Health | Behavior | Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Griefer | 24 | Throws TNT at players and villagers. Can spawn Creepies. | Gunpowder, TNT |
| Executioner | 50 | A heavy-hitting tank that uses a large greataxe. Charges up powerful attacks. | Iron Ingot, Mask of Cruelty (Rare) |
| Trickster | 24 | Extremely fast and elusive. Throws Flash Bombs to blind players. | Confusion Bolt, Flash Bomb |
| Iceologer | 30 | Summons ice chunks above the player's head that fall and deal area damage. | Blue Ice, Packed Ice |
| Skeleton Villager | 20 | An undead variant of the villager that spawns during raids to support Illagers. | Bones, Arrows |
| Creepie | 4 | Tiny, fast-moving creepers spawned by Griefers. They explode quickly. | Gunpowder |
Griefer
The Griefer is the demolition expert of the Illager army. Instead of direct combat, it maintains distance and hurls ignited TNT. If cornered, it may spawn Creepies—miniature creepers that rush the player and detonate with a small but lethal blast radius.
Executioner
The Executioner is a massive Vindicator variant. It moves slower than a standard Vindicator but possesses significantly higher health and damage. Its primary mechanic is a 'charge' attack where it raises its axe, becoming immune to knockback before delivering a devastating blow that can disable shields.
Trickster
Tricksters are the scouts and saboteurs. They are difficult to hit due to their high movement speed and tendency to strafe. They throw Flash Bombs, which inflict the Blindness effect on players, making it easier for other Illagers to swarm the target.

Items#
Savage and Ravage adds several items that are either dropped by new mobs or used to interact with the mod's mechanics.
Key Items
- Sinister Horn: Dropped by Raid Captains. When used (held right-click), it grants the player the Bad Omen effect. This allows players to choose exactly when and where to start a raid.
- Mask of Cruelty: A rare drop from Executioners. When worn, it causes Villagers to flee from the player, but it may also provide a level of intimidation against certain mobs.
- Confusion Bolt: A specialized ammunition for Crossbows. Mobs hit by this bolt will become confused, often attacking other nearby mobs regardless of their faction.
- Flash Bomb: Thrown by Tricksters and craftable by players. It creates a burst of light that blinds nearby entities for a short duration.
- Blast-Proof Plating: An upgrade material that can be applied to armor pieces to significantly reduce damage taken from explosions (specifically effective against Griefers and Creepies).
Crafting Recipes
| Item | Ingredients | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Flash Bomb | 1 Gunpowder + 1 Glowstone Dust + 1 Glass Bottle | 1 Flash Bomb |
| Gloomy Stone Bricks | 4 Gloomy Stone | 4 Gloomy Stone Bricks |
| Confusion Bolt | 1 Arrow + 1 Fermented Spider Eye | 1 Confusion Bolt |

Blocks#
The mod introduces a new aesthetic set of blocks primarily used in Illager architecture.
- Gloomy Stone: A dark, basalt-like stone that serves as the foundation for revamped Outposts.
- Gloomy Stone Bricks: A decorative variant of Gloomy Stone.
- Gloomy Tiles: Polished, dark tiles used for flooring in elite Illager structures.
- Gloomy Pillars: Vertical decorative blocks with a unique chiseled texture.
- Powder Snow (Savage Variant): In versions featuring the Iceologer, specialized powder snow traps may be found in mountain-based Illager camps.

Mechanics & Raids#
The Sinister Horn & Bad Omen
In Savage and Ravage, the Bad Omen effect is no longer automatically applied upon killing a Raid Captain. Instead, the Captain will drop a Sinister Horn.
- Obtaining: Kill an Illager Captain (the one with the banner).
- Activation: Hold right-click to blow the horn.
- Effect: You receive Bad Omen. If you are inside a village, the raid begins immediately.
Raid Overhaul
Raids are significantly more difficult. The wave composition is changed to include:
- Wave 1-3: Standard Vindicators and Pillagers, now joined by Tricksters.
- Wave 4-6: Introduction of Griefers and Executioners.
- Wave 7+: Iceologers and multiple Executioners appear, alongside Ravagers.
Blast Protection
Because of the high frequency of TNT and Creepie explosions, the mod encourages the use of Blast-Proof Plating. This can be applied to any armor set via a Smithing Table to provide a permanent reduction in explosion-based knockback and damage.
Structures#
Savage and Ravage modifies existing structures and adds new ones to house its new mobs.
Revamped Outposts
Vanilla Illager Outposts are replaced with more imposing structures built from Gloomy Stone. These outposts often feature multiple floors, better loot, and a guaranteed spawn of an Executioner or Griefer guarding the top chest.
Illager Camps
Small, temporary camps can be found in various biomes (Plains, Forests, Mountains). These consist of a few tents, a campfire, and a small group of Pillagers and Griefers. They serve as a source for Sinister Horns outside of full Outposts.

The Iceologer Cabin
Rarely found in snowy biomes, these small wooden cabins are home to the Iceologer. They contain cold-themed loot and are often surrounded by Powder Snow traps.

Advancements#
The mod adds several advancements to guide players through its content:
- Sound the Alarm!: Blow a Sinister Horn for the first time.
- Who's Laughing Now?: Kill a Trickster while under the effect of Blindness.
- Defusing the Situation: Kill a Griefer before it can throw any TNT.
- The Student Becomes the Master: Kill an Executioner using an Axe.
- A Sinister Fortress: Discover a revamped Gloomy Stone Outpost.
