Overview#

Simple Generators is a utility mod designed to provide a wide variety of single-block power generation solutions. It converts common items, fluids, and exotic materials into Forge Energy (FE) or Redstone Flux (RF), depending on the Minecraft version. The mod is split into two primary categories: Simple Generators, which have fixed output rates, and Upgradable Generators, which allow players to insert modifiers to increase speed or efficiency.

While the mod does not add new mobs or biomes, it integrates deeply with existing vanilla mechanics and other mods, such as the Statues mod, to provide unique fuel sources like mob heads, food, and potions.

Item-Based Generators#

Item generators consume solid items to produce energy. In the 1.16.5 version (Simple Generators 3), these blocks have a base energy rate and internal storage capacity.

Generator Variants and Stats

Generator Fuel Source Base FE/t (Simple) Base FE/t (Upgradable) Modifier Slots
Combustion Non-fluid furnace fuels (Coal, Wood, Charcoal) 80 160 4
Culinary Food items (Better food yields more total energy) 80 160 4
Ender Ender Pearls, Eyes of Ender, Dragon's Breath 80 160 4
Nether Netherrack, Quartz, Magma Cream, Nether Stars 160 320 4
Soul Mob heads, Bones, Rotten Flesh, Soul Sand 80 160 4
Pink Pink Wool, Pink Dye, Pink Tulips, Pink Stained Glass 80 160 4
Potion Potions (Energy based on duration and complexity) 80 160 4
TNT TNT and other explosive blocks 80 160 4
Statue Statues (Requires the Statues mod) 80 160 4

Fluid-Based Generators#

Fluid generators utilize liquid fuels stored in an internal tank. These machines typically consume 1 mB of fluid per tick to generate energy.

Fluid Generator Variants

  • Fluid Combustion Generator: Burns combustible fluids such as Oil or Fuel from other mods. It consumes 1 mB/t and provides a steady energy output.
  • Geothermal Generator: Consumes Lava to produce energy. It is a staple for early-to-mid game power, especially when paired with automated lava production.
  • Turbine Generator: Uses Water or Steam (depending on version and installed mods) to generate power through mechanical rotation.
  • XP Generator: Consumes Liquid XP (Experience) to generate energy, making it ideal for players with high-yield mob farms.

Upgrades and Modifiers#

Upgradable Generators feature a dedicated GUI with slots for modifiers. These modifiers are often found under the ValkyrieLib namespace in JEI.

Speed Modifiers

  • Function: Increases the energy production rate (FE/t).
  • Cost: Each speed modifier increases the fuel consumption rate proportionally. For example, a 100% speed increase will consume fuel twice as fast.
  • Stacking: Up to 4 stacks of speed modifiers can be placed in a single Upgradable Generator in some versions, allowing for massive power throughput at the cost of high fuel demand.

Efficiency Modifiers

  • Function: Increases the total amount of energy extracted from a single unit of fuel.
  • Benefit: Ideal for rare fuels like Nether Stars or Dragon's Breath to ensure maximum energy return.

Crafting Recipes#

Most generators follow a standard crafting pattern involving Stone, Iron, a Furnace, and Redstone. Below are the common recipe components for the base "Simple" variants.

Generator Key Ingredients
Combustion 4x Stone, 3x Iron Ingot, 1x Furnace, 1x Redstone Block
Culinary 4x Stone, 1x Iron Hoe, 1x Fishing Rod, 1x Furnace, 1x Redstone Block
Ender 4x Stone, 3x Ender Pearl, 1x Furnace, 1x Redstone Block
Nether 4x Soul Sand, 3x Wither Skeleton Skull, 1x Furnace, 1x Redstone Block
Geothermal 4x Stone, 2x Magma Block, 1x Cauldron, 1x Furnace, 1x Redstone Block
Fluid Combustion 4x Stone, 2x Gold Ingot, 1x Cauldron, 1x Combustion Generator, 1x Redstone Block

Note: Upgradable versions typically require the Simple version of the generator plus additional materials like Iron Blocks or Gold Blocks.

Mechanics and Configuration#

Energy Distribution

Generators will automatically output energy to adjacent blocks (cables, machines, or batteries). They do not require a wrench to orient the output face, as they typically output from all sides unless configured otherwise in the GUI.

Custom Fuel Support (Datapacks)

In version 1.16.5+, users can add custom fuels to any generator using Datapacks. The recipes are stored in JSON format within the following directory structure: data/namespace/simplegens/item_generators/ or data/namespace/simplegens/fluid_generators/.

Example Item Fuel JSON:

{
 "generator": "simplegens:simple_combustion",
 "fuel": {
 "item": "minecraft:stick"
 },
 "energy": 100,
 "time": 20
}

Configuration

The mod's config file allows server owners to adjust the base energy production rates, internal buffer sizes, and the effectiveness of speed/efficiency upgrades to balance the mod for specific modpacks.
