Overview#
Steamcraft is a massive overhaul mod that transforms the Minecraft experience into a Victorian-era steampunk adventure. It replaces traditional Redstone mechanics with a robust electrical system based on Copper Wire and Tesla technology, introduces high-tier materials like Etherium and Volucite, and adds a variety of functional machinery, firearms, and utility gear.
The mod focuses on industrial progression, moving from basic steam-powered furnaces to advanced nuclear reactors and wireless energy transmission. It also includes a unique agriculture system centered around the cultivation and brewing of tea.
Ores and Resources#
Steamcraft adds several new ores to the world generation, each essential for the mod's progression. These ores replace or supplement vanilla resources to fit the steampunk theme.
| Ore | Drop | Mining Level | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bornite | Purified Copper | Stone+ | The primary source of Copper, used for wiring and alloys like Brass. |
| Brimstone | Sulphur | Iron+ | Found in the Nether and deep underground; used for chemical fuel and gunpowder. |
| Phosphate | Phosphorus | Iron+ | Used alongside Sulphur in Chemical Furnaces for high-speed smelting. |
| Uranite | Uranium | Diamond+ | A rare radioactive ore used to fuel Nuclear Reactors. |
| Volucite | Etherium Crystal | Obsidian+ | An extremely rare, glowing ore found at the lowest levels. Requires Obsidian or Etherium tools to mine. |
| Quartz Ore | Quartz | Iron+ | Replaces Redstone Ore in the world; used for advanced circuitry and Etherium processing. |
Materials and Alloys#
Beyond raw ores, players must craft specialized alloys and refined crystals to build advanced technology.
- Brass Ingot: Crafted by smelting Purified Copper with Zinc (or found in loot). It is the foundational metal for steampunk machinery and goggles.
- Cast Iron Ingot: A reinforced form of iron used for heavy-duty railings, gates, and machine frames.
- Etherium Crystal: Obtained from Volucite Ore. These crystals are the pinnacle of the mod's material tier, used for indestructible blocks and top-tier tools.
- Obsidian Slate: Created by processing Obsidian. It serves as a durable material for mid-to-high tier tools and armor.
- Uranium Pellet: Refined Uranium used specifically as fuel for the Nuclear Reactor.
Machines and Power#
Steamcraft introduces a tiered smelting and power system. Unlike vanilla furnaces, these machines often require multiple inputs to function at peak efficiency.
Furnaces
- Steam Furnace: Requires a Water Bucket in the top slot and standard fuel (Coal/Wood) in the bottom. It smelts items significantly faster than a standard furnace.
- Chemical Furnace: Uses a mixture of Phosphorus and Sulphur as fuel. It is exceptionally fast but consumes fuel rapidly.
- Nuclear Reactor: The ultimate smelting machine. Fueled by Uranium Pellets, it processes items almost instantaneously and can power nearby Tesla systems.
Electricity and Tesla Technology
Steamcraft replaces Redstone Wire with Copper Wire. While it functions similarly to Redstone, it is visually distinct and integrates with the mod's electrical components.
- Tesla Coil: A block that transmits power wirelessly to any Tesla Receiver within a specific radius.
- Battery: Stores electrical energy for later use in lamps or machines.
- Electric Lamp: A toggleable light source that requires a constant electrical connection or a nearby Tesla transmission.
- Inverter & Diode: Steampunk equivalents of the Redstone Torch and Redstone Repeater, used for complex logic circuits.
Weaponry: The Firearm System#
Steamcraft adds a comprehensive firearms system, ranging from primitive matchlocks to advanced rifles. All firearms require specific ammunition and components to craft.
Firearm Tiers
- Matchlock: The most basic tier. Slow to reload and less accurate.
- Flintlock: A mid-tier improvement with better reliability.
- Percussion: The highest tier of traditional firearms, offering the fastest reload speeds and highest damage.
Components and Ammo
| Item | Recipe Components | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Wooden Stock | Wood Planks | The base handle for all muskets and rifles. |
| Smoothbore Barrel | Iron Ingots | Used for Muskets; lower accuracy but cheaper. |
| Rifled Barrel | Iron Ingots + Steel | Used for Rifles; high accuracy and range. |
| Musket Cartridge | Gunpowder + Paper + Iron Ingot | Standard ammunition for all firearms. |
| Percussion Cap | Brass + Phosphorus | Required for Percussion-tier weapons to fire. |
Tools and Utility Gear#
The mod provides specialized tools that offer unique advantages over vanilla counterparts.
Drills
Drills are the primary mining tool in Steamcraft. They come in various tiers (Wood, Stone, Iron, Gold, Diamond, Obsidian, and Etherium).
- Steam Drill: A unique tool that requires water and fuel to operate but can mine large areas of stone extremely quickly.
- Core Drill: Used for deep-vein prospecting to find rare ores.
Specialized Apparel
- Brass Goggles: When worn, they provide the player with Night Vision, allowing for easier cave exploration.
- Aqualung: A back-mounted tank that allows for extended breathing underwater.
- Roller Skates: Increases movement speed on flat land but reduces control on stairs or uneven terrain.
- Pneumatic Braces: Leg-mounted pistons that significantly reduce fall damage and increase jump height.
- Steam Tools: A set of tools (Shovel, Pickaxe, Chainsaw, Sword) that use steam power to perform actions at high speeds.
Agriculture: The Tea System#
Tea is a central mechanic for health and hunger management in Steamcraft.
- Cultivation: Break tall grass to find Tea Seeds. Plant them on tilled soil to grow Tea Plants.
- Harvesting: Once fully grown, harvest the plants to obtain Tea Leaves.
- Drying: Smelt Tea Leaves in any furnace to produce dried leaves.
- Brewing:
- Craft an Empty Kettle (Iron Ingots in a 'U' shape with a lid).
- Fill the Kettle with water and add Tea Leaves to get a Kettle of Cold Tea.
- Smelt the Kettle in a furnace to get a Kettle of Tea (Hot).
- Consumption: Pour the hot tea into a Teacup (crafted from Clay). Drinking tea restores health and provides a brief regeneration buff.
Decorative and Structural Blocks#
Steamcraft adds a variety of blocks for building Victorian-style structures.
- Engraved Blocks: Using a Chisel, players can engrave Iron, Gold, Diamond, Brass, and Lapis blocks with intricate patterns.
- Slate Tiles: Crafted from Obsidian Slate, these provide a dark, professional roofing or flooring option. They can also be crafted into Angled Slate Tiles for sloped roofs.
- Cast Iron Railings & Gates: Highly durable decorative barriers that are much stronger than wooden fences.
- Lamp Blocks: Large, stationary light sources that can be toggled on or off via electrical signals.
