Overview#
The Things mod is a collection of diverse items and features aimed at improving the vanilla Minecraft experience. It focuses on providing players with utility tools and passive buffs through a dedicated accessory system. Whether it's infinite water buckets, portable ender chests, or advanced teleportation, the mod offers "things" that simplify tedious tasks and empower exploration.
Key features include:
-
The Things Almanac: A comprehensive in-game guide.
-
Gleaming Materials: A new tier of magical resources found deep underground.
-
Utility Artifacts: High-tier tools for teleportation, fluid management, and inventory access.
Getting Started#
To begin your journey with the Things mod, you must first obtain the Things Almanac. This book contains all the information regarding crafting recipes, item effects, and mechanics.
The Things Almanac
Players typically receive the Almanac upon first joining a world. If lost, it can be crafted by Right-Clicking Gleaming Ore with a regular Book. The Almanac uses the Lavender (or Patchouli in older versions) documentation system to provide a clean, interactive interface for all mod content.
Gleaming Ore
Gleaming Ore is the foundational resource of the mod. It is found in the Overworld, specifically at the transition layer where Stone meets Deepslate (typically between Y-levels -15 and 15).
- Mining Requirement: Diamond Pickaxe or higher.
- Drops: 1-2 Gleaming Powder (affected by Fortune).
- Appearance: The ore emits a faint, magical glow, making it easier to spot in dark caves.
Materials & Crafting#
Most high-tier "Things" require processed versions of Gleaming Powder.
| Item | Description | Crafting / Acquisition |
|---|---|---|
| Gleaming Powder | A magical dust with primitive life-like properties. | Mined from Gleaming Ore. |
| Gleaming Compound | A refined material used in almost all trinket recipes. | Combine a Diamond with Gleaming Powder. |
| Displacement Page | Used to add teleportation waypoints to a Displacement Tome. | Crafted with Paper and Gleaming Powder. |
| Agglomeration | A powerful item used to merge two trinkets into one. | High-tier crafting involving Gleaming Compound and Nether Stars. |
Trinkets & Accessories#
Trinkets provide passive benefits when worn in specific slots (Necklace, Ring, Cape, etc.).
Wearable Artifacts
- Monocle: Provides permanent Night Vision when equipped in the face slot.
- Mossy Necklace: Grants Regeneration II as long as the player is standing in sufficient light (sunlight or torchlight).
- Socks: Increases walking speed and provides a toggleable Jump Boost and Step Assist. (Default toggle: Caps Lock).
- Arm Extender: Increases both attack and mining reach by 2 blocks.
- Shock Absorber: Reduces fall damage and kinetic damage (e.g., flying into walls with Elytra) by 75%.
- Broken Watch: Extends the duration of all active potion effects by 50%.
- Enchanted Wax Gland: Allows the player to float in water and provides a significant swim speed boost. Can be upgraded to work in lava.
- Rabbit's Foot Charm: Provides a permanent Jump Boost effect.
- Hades Crystal: Grants permanent Fire Resistance when worn as a necklace.
- Placebo: Gives a 25% chance to not consume a potion when drinking it.
The Agglomeration
The Agglomeration is a unique mechanic that allows players to combine two trinkets that occupy the same slot. By placing two trinkets and an Agglomeration in a crafting grid, you create a single item that provides the benefits of both, effectively doubling your accessory efficiency.
Tools & Utility Items#
These items are used from the hotbar or via keybinds to provide active utility.
Displacement Tome
The Displacement Tome is a high-end teleportation tool.
- Waypoints: It can store up to 8 locations. To add a location, you must have a Displacement Page in your inventory and click the '+' icon in the Tome's UI.
- Fuel: It uses Ender Pearls as fuel. To charge it, right-click the Tome onto Ender Pearls in your inventory.
- Usage: Open the UI to select a destination and teleport instantly.
Fluid Management
- Bater Wucket: An infinite water bucket. It never empties, allowing for endless water placement.
- Bempty Ucket: The inverse of the Bater Wucket; it can pick up and instantly void infinite amounts of any fluid.
Inventory & World Utility
- Ender Pouch: Provides remote access to the player's Ender Chest inventory. It can be opened via a dedicated keybind (default: 'G').
- Item Magnet: When active, it pulls nearby dropped items toward the player. It uses a charge system that recharges over time.
- Container Key: Allows players to lock containers like Chests and Barrels. Shift-right-click a container to lock it, preventing others from opening it.
- Recall Potion: A consumable that teleports the player back to their spawn point (bed or world spawn).
Blocks#
While primarily an item mod, Things adds several functional and decorative blocks.
- Glowstone Fixtures: Decorative light sources that can be mounted on ceilings, walls, or floors. They come in Stone, Quartz, and Deepslate variants and emit light as bright as Glowstone.
- Diamond Pressure Plate: A specialized pressure plate that only triggers when a Player steps on it, ignoring items and mobs.
- Gleaming Ore: The natural world-generation block found at deep levels.
Mechanics & Configuration#
Keybinds
Several items require keybinds to function. These can be configured in the standard Minecraft Controls menu:
- Open Ender Pouch: Default 'G'.
- Toggle Socks Ability: Default 'Caps Lock'.
Configuration
The mod is highly configurable via the things.json5 file (usually found in the /config folder). Server owners can:
- Disable specific trinkets.
- Blacklist items from being used in the Agglomeration.
- Adjust the fuel consumption of the Displacement Tome.
- Modify the spawn rates of Gleaming Ore.
