Overview#
Valhelsia Structures is a world-generation mod designed to make exploration more rewarding and immersive. It introduces a variety of new structures to the Minecraft terrain, ranging from small abandoned houses to sprawling underground dungeons and ruined castles. Unlike many structure mods that feel out of place, Valhelsia Structures focuses on a 'vanilla-plus' aesthetic, ensuring that every new building feels like a natural part of the world's history.
In addition to new structures, the mod reworks several vanilla features—such as Witch Huts and Desert Temples—to provide a fresh experience for veteran players. It also introduces a selection of decorative and functional blocks used within these structures, which players can craft or scavenge for their own builds.
Structures#
The core of the mod is its diverse library of structures. These are distributed across various biomes and altitudes, providing constant incentives for exploration.
Abandoned Buildings
These are the most common structures found in the overworld. They often tell a silent story of previous inhabitants and provide early-game shelter and basic resources.
- Abandoned Houses: Found in Plains, Forests, and Taiga biomes. They vary in size and material (Oak, Spruce, or Dark Oak) and typically contain basic furniture, crafting stations, and chests with starter loot.
- Ruined Castles: Large, imposing stone structures usually found on hills or plains. They feature multiple floors, crumbling towers, and hidden basements. They are often guarded by vanilla hostile mobs.
- Towers: Tall stone or wooden lookouts that provide a high vantage point. They often contain a single chest at the top with navigation-related loot.
Dungeons and Ruins
For players seeking combat and high-tier rewards, the mod adds complex underground and surface ruins.
- Underground Dungeons: Extensive stone brick complexes found deep below the surface. These are significantly larger than vanilla dungeons and consist of multiple rooms connected by corridors, filled with mob spawners and loot chests.
- Small Ruins: Scattered stone pillars, collapsed walls, or overgrown foundations found throughout the world. These often hide a single chest or a valuable block beneath the floor.
Revamped Vanilla Structures
Valhelsia Structures replaces certain vanilla structures with more detailed and challenging versions:
- Improved Witch Hut: A much larger, more atmospheric swamp dwelling with multiple rooms and better loot, reflecting the dangerous nature of its inhabitant.
- Improved Desert Temple: A grander version of the vanilla pyramid, featuring expanded underground chambers and more intricate TNT traps.
Blocks#
The mod adds several blocks that are primarily used in the generation of its structures but can also be utilized by players for decoration and defense.
| Block | Description | Properties |
|---|---|---|
| Reinforced Glass | A high-strength glass variant that is resistant to explosions. | High blast resistance; requires a pickaxe to mine. |
| Metal Framed Glass | A decorative glass block with a visible metal border, perfect for industrial builds. | Decorative; transparent. |
| Crates | Decorative wooden storage containers found in abandoned buildings. | Can be broken and moved; used for aesthetic storage. |
| Stone Pillars | Vertical decorative blocks found in ruins and castles. | Can be placed horizontally or vertically. |
Crafting Recipes
While many blocks are found naturally, players can craft the following:
- Reinforced Glass: Surround an Iron Ingot with 8 Glass blocks in a crafting table.
- Metal Framed Glass: Place an Iron Nugget in the center of 8 Glass blocks.
Mobs and Entities#
Currently, Valhelsia Structures does not add entirely new custom entities or mobs. Instead, it utilizes the vanilla mob system to populate its structures strategically. Future updates are planned to include unique bosses and hostile creatures.
Structure Population
- Spawners: Dungeons and Ruined Castles contain spawners for Zombies, Skeletons, and Spiders. These are often hidden behind walls or placed in 'trap' rooms.
- Witches: Found in the Improved Witch Huts, often in groups of two or three.
- Creepers: Frequently found in the dark corners of abandoned houses and underground tunnels.
Loot and Rewards#
Loot in Valhelsia Structures is balanced to reward exploration without breaking game progression. Chests are categorized by the structure type.
- Residential Loot (Houses): Food, seeds, basic tools, leather, and occasionally iron nuggets.
- Military Loot (Castles/Towers): Iron and Gold ingots, Chainmail armor, Shields, and Arrows.
- Dungeon Loot: Rare items such as Diamonds, Enchanted Books, Golden Apples, Saddles, and Music Discs.
- Hidden Treasures: Some structures contain 'Monster Boxes' or hidden Gold/Emerald blocks tucked away behind walls or under floorboards.
Mechanics and Configuration#
World Generation
Structures are integrated into the Minecraft world-gen using the standard structure tag system. This ensures compatibility with biome mods like Biomes O' Plenty or Terralith. The frequency of structures is determined during the initial chunk generation.
Configuration
Players and server admins can fine-tune the mod via the valhelsia_structures-common.toml file located in the /config/ folder.
Key configuration options include:
- Spacing: The average distance (in chunks) between attempts to generate a specific structure.
- Separation: The minimum distance (in chunks) that must exist between two structures of the same type.
- Mod Compatibility: Toggle settings for how the mod interacts with other Valhelsia series mods, such as Valhelsia Furniture.
Commands
Players with operator permissions can use the standard vanilla locate command to find these structures:
/locate structure valhelsia_structures:abandoned_house/locate structure valhelsia_structures:castle_ruins/locate structure valhelsia_structures:dungeon
