Overview#

Village Artifacts (originally known as Villager Tools) is designed to streamline the management of Minecraft villages. It introduces a variety of items that allow players to bypass vanilla limitations, such as resetting villager professions without breaking work stations, instantly leveling up traders, and converting hostile Pillagers into loyal Town Guards. The mod also features an upgrade system for Iron Golems, ensuring they remain effective defenders while becoming completely passive toward the player.

Items and Artifacts#

The mod adds several unique items, most of which are crafted using Rough Emerald Shards. Below is a detailed list of all artifacts and their functions.

Item Description Usage
Rough Emerald Shard A basic crafting component and bartering tool. Right-click a villager with a blocked trade (Red X) to restock it instantly.
Amulet A magical charm that purifies dark energy. Use on a Pillager, Vindicator, or Evoker to convert them into a Town Guard.
Oblivion Stone A powerful upgrade for village defenders. Use on an Iron Golem to transform it into a Friendly Golem with boosted stats.
War Emblem A cursed relic that incites conflict. Use to summon a group of Pillagers (Cursed Warriors) for combat practice or raid simulation.
Ichor of Virtue A concentrated essence of goodwill. Right-click a villager to increase your reputation and erase crimes committed in the village.
Plague Remedy A potent cure for the undead plague. Use on a Zombie Villager to cure them instantly without the need for Weakness potions or Golden Apples.
Trading Contract A legal document for traveling merchants. Use on a Wandering Trader to convert them into a permanent, stationary Villager.
Infernal Shard A shard of pure corruption. Use on a Villager to turn them into a Witch, or on a Pillager to turn them into an Evoker.
Scroll of Hubris A scroll that wipes the mind. Use on a Villager to reset their profession and level, even if they have already been traded with.
Grimoire of the Lost Merchants Guild A book of ancient trade secrets. Use on a Villager to instantly increase their profession level (e.g., Novice to Apprentice).
Golemsteel Brazier A portable beacon for village entities. While held in the hand, nearby Villagers and Town Guards will follow the player.
Llama Key A key to unlock heavy restraints. Use on a Wandering Trader's Llama to convert it into a normal, free Llama.

Mobs#

Village Artifacts introduces two primary modified mob variants to assist in village defense.

Town Guard

Town Guards are created by using the Amulet on hostile Illagers (Pillagers, Vindicators, or Evokers).

  • Behavior: They are neutral toward players and hostile toward monsters. They will actively patrol the village and attack Zombies, Skeletons, and other Illagers.
  • Equipment: They typically retain the weapons they had as Illagers (e.g., Crossbows) but use them to defend the village.

Friendly Golem

Friendly Golems are the result of applying an Oblivion Stone to a standard Iron Golem.

  • Stats: They possess significantly higher health and attack damage compared to standard golems.
  • Passive Nature: Unlike vanilla Iron Golems, Friendly Golems will never attack the player, even if the player hits them or has a low village reputation. This makes them safe to have around complex village builds.

Mechanics#

Trade Manipulation

One of the most powerful features of the mod is the ability to manage trades without the frustration of vanilla RNG.

  • Restocking: Using a Rough Emerald Shard on a villager with a red 'X' over their trade will force a restock. Note that this may slightly increase the price of the item as a trade-off for the convenience.
  • Profession Resetting: The Scroll of Hubris allows players to change a villager's job even after they have been locked in by trading. This is essential for fixing "broken" trading halls.

Reputation Management

The Ichor of Virtue is a critical tool for players who accidentally damage villagers or golems. Each use increases the player's internal reputation score by 6 points, which lowers trade prices and prevents golems (non-upgraded ones) from becoming aggressive.

Village Logistics

The Golemsteel Brazier functions similarly to how wheat attracts cows. By holding the brazier, players can lead a group of villagers to a new location or into a trading hall without the need for boats, minecarts, or complicated pathfinding manipulation.
