Overview#
Boss Refreshed is a texture pack that overhauls the look of Minecraft's major bosses. It replaces the artwork of the Ender Dragon, the Wither, the Warden and the Elder Guardian with darker, more detailed designs while keeping each mob instantly recognizable.
The pack only changes textures (and optional models); it adds no items, blocks or mechanics, so it is safe to combine with almost any other pack or setup.
Refreshed Bosses#
Four bosses receive new artwork:
- Ender Dragon – a weathered, stone-grey dragon with tattered, more imposing wings.
- Wither – a darker, spikier skeletal body that looks far more dangerous.
- Warden – deeper blacks with glowing accents for an even eerier deep-dark guardian.
- Elder Guardian – a moodier, more detailed version of the ancient ocean boss.
Each keeps its original silhouette and animations, so the changes feel like a natural upgrade rather than a different creature.
OptiFine Models (CEM)#
Alongside the textures, the pack includes OptiFine Custom Entity Model (CEM) files for the bosses. When OptiFine is installed, these give the bosses reshaped, more accurate models on top of the new textures.
OptiFine is optional: without it, the base textures still apply to the standard boss models, so the pack works on any client.
Using the Pack#
- Open Options → Resource Packs in the game.
- Move Boss Refreshed from the available list into the active list and confirm.
- (Optional) Install OptiFine to enable the custom entity models.
- Encounter or summon a boss to see its refreshed look.
The pack can be toggled on or off at any time from the resource pack menu.
Compatibility#
Because Boss Refreshed only touches four boss entities, it layers cleanly on top of most other resource packs – keep it above your base pack in the list so its boss textures take priority. It is lightweight and does not affect world textures, the interface, or performance in any noticeable way.
