Overview#

Environmental Materials (formerly a component of Environmental Tech) is a standalone companion mod designed to provide a massive selection of decorative and structural building blocks. While it is built to complement the Environmental series of mods—such as Environmental Tech and Environmental Energy—it does not require them to function.

The mod focuses on high-quality textures and high-durability blocks, many of which possess significant blast resistance. The primary materials include Alabaster, Basalt, Hardened Stone, and several geological variants like Marble and Travertine. These blocks are designed for both creative builds and high-tier survival infrastructure, offering a clean, modern aesthetic that fits perfectly with technical modpacks.

Primary Materials#

The mod adds several base material types, each with its own unique visual style and properties. Most of these materials can be further processed into various decorative forms.

Hardened Stone

Hardened Stone is the foundational material of the mod. It is a dark, durable stone with higher blast resistance than standard Minecraft stone. It serves as the base ingredient for many other materials in the mod.

Alabaster

Alabaster is a smooth, clean-looking material that is available in all 16 Minecraft colors. It is highly versatile for modern builds and laboratory-style environments. Each color variant has its own set of stairs, slabs, and walls.

Basalt

Basalt is a dark, volcanic-themed block. It provides a rugged, industrial look and is significantly tougher than standard stone.

Lonsdaleite

Lonsdaleite is a high-tier material often associated with the end-game of Environmental Tech. It is extremely durable and is completely wither-proof, making it ideal for containing bosses or protecting critical infrastructure.

Geological Variants

In addition to the primary materials, the mod includes several other stone types:

  • Marble: A bright, white stone with subtle veining.
  • Granodiorite: A speckled, igneous rock variant.
  • Travertine: A banded, sedimentary-style block.
  • Pumice: A porous, lightweight-looking volcanic rock.

Block Variants#

Every material in the mod (Alabaster in all 16 colors, Basalt, Hardened Stone, etc.) comes with a full suite of decorative variants. These can be crafted using a Stonecutter for efficiency.

Variant Type Description
Base Block The standard smooth version of the material.
Bricks Large, structured brick pattern.
Small Bricks A finer, more detailed brick pattern.
Tiles Large square tile pattern.
Small Tiles Small, repetitive tile pattern.
Pavers A flat, paved look suitable for roads and walkways.
Slabs Half-block versions of all patterns.
Stairs Staircase versions of all patterns.
Walls Wall/fence versions of the base and brick patterns.

For Alabaster, these variants exist for every color, resulting in hundreds of unique decorative options.

Crafting and Recipes#

The mod utilizes standard crafting table recipes for base materials and the Stonecutter for all decorative variants.

Base Material Recipes

Result Ingredients
Hardened Stone (x8) 4x Stone + 4x Cobblestone (Checkerboard pattern)
Alabaster (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x White Dye
Basalt (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x Black Dye
Marble (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x Quartz
Granodiorite (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x Diorite
Travertine (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x Sandstone
Pumice (x8) 8x Hardened Stone + 1x Gravel
Colored Alabaster (x8) 8x Alabaster + 1x [Any] Dye

Processing Variants

Once the base block (e.g., Alabaster or Hardened Stone) is crafted, place it into a Stonecutter to access all other forms, including Bricks, Tiles, Pavers, Slabs, Stairs, and Walls. This method is highly recommended as it provides a 1:1 conversion rate for most blocks.

Mechanics and Properties#

Blast Resistance and Hardness

Blocks in Environmental Materials are generally sturdier than their vanilla counterparts.

  • Hardened Stone / Alabaster / Basalt: These blocks have a hardness of 5.0 and a blast resistance of 15.0, making them resistant to standard TNT explosions.
  • Lonsdaleite: This material is exceptionally tough, with a blast resistance of 3000.0. It is classified as Wither-proof, meaning it cannot be destroyed by the Wither's blue skulls or dash attacks.

Integration with Environmental Tech

If Environmental Tech is installed, many of these materials (especially Alabaster, Basalt, and Hardened Stone) can be obtained automatically via Void Miners.

  • Resource Miner: Can be configured to mine various stone types from the mod.
  • Lonsdaleite Shards: These are rare drops from high-tier Void Miners and can be crafted into Lonsdaleite Blocks (9 shards = 1 block).

Technical Notes

  • No World Generation: This mod does not add new ores or biomes to the world. All materials are obtained through crafting or technical automation.
  • No Mobs: There are no entities or creatures added by this mod.
  • Library Requirement: This mod requires ValkyrieLib to function correctly in all supported versions.
