Wakes Wiki

Wakes adds realistic trailing wakes and splashes behind boats, mobs and players moving through water, making Minecraft's water feel alive and reactive.

Overview#

Wakes is a lightweight, client-side visual mod that brings dynamic water motion to Minecraft. Anything that travels across the surface of the water - a boat you are rowing, a mob wading through a river, or your own player swimming out into the ocean - now leaves a trailing wake and kicks up splashes behind it. The ripples and foam spread outward across the surface and fade away naturally, so water no longer looks flat and static.

Because the effect runs entirely on your client, you can use it on any multiplayer server without the server needing to install anything. This is a 9Minecraft Studios port to Minecraft 26.2 for the Fabric loader.

Features#

  • Trailing wakes form behind boats, players and mobs that move through water.
  • Splashes and foam are kicked up along the path and fade out over time.
  • Fully client-side - works on singleplayer worlds and on any multiplayer server, with no server-side installation required.
  • Highly configurable through an in-game settings screen (via Mod Menu).
  • Shader-friendly and pairs well with water-focused resource packs.

Configuration#

Open the settings screen from Mod Menu to fine-tune how the wakes look and behave.

Wake Appearance

  • Wake resolution - the detail level of the wake simulation grid.
  • Wake opacity - how visible the wakes and foam are.
  • Wake style - choose between subtle and more pronounced looks.
  • Use water blending - blends the effect smoothly into the water surface.
  • Splash plane - adjust the scale, offset, width, height and depth of the splash effect.
