Overview#
Farmer's Delight is a modular expansion for Minecraft's agricultural and culinary systems. It aims to provide a more rewarding experience for players who enjoy the 'homestead' aspect of the game. By introducing new crops, soil types, and cooking methods, the mod encourages players to move beyond basic survival foods like bread and steak toward complex, multi-ingredient meals that provide powerful status effects.
The mod is designed to feel like a natural extension of the vanilla game, utilizing familiar materials while adding depth to the kitchen and the field. Whether you are foraging for wild crops in distant biomes or automating a high-efficiency kitchen, Farmer's Delight offers tools for every stage of progression.
Core Mechanics#
Heat Sources
Many blocks in Farmer's Delight, such as the Cooking Pot and Skillet, require a heat source directly beneath them to function. Valid heat sources include:
- Stove: The most efficient and safest heat source.
- Campfire / Soul Campfire: Standard early-game heat.
- Lava / Magma Block: Passive heat sources.
- Fire: Direct fire blocks.
Status Effects
Consuming the advanced meals provided by this mod often grants unique status effects:
| Effect | Icon | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Nourishment | Stops the hunger bar from depleting for the duration. Satiety and health regeneration still consume hunger points as normal. | |
| Comfort | Provides health regeneration and resistance to cold-based effects. The health bar glows silver when active. |
Backstabbing
Knives added by the mod possess a unique 'Backstabbing' mechanic. Attacking a mob from behind deals significantly increased damage. This can be further enhanced with the Backstabbing Enchantment (Levels I-III).
Tools & Equipment#
Knives
Knives are the primary tool for food processing and resource gathering. They have faster attack speeds than swords but lower base damage. Their primary utility is harvesting Straw from grass and processing items on the Cutting Board.
| Material | Durability | Attack Damage | Crafting Recipe |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flint | 131 | 2.0 | 1 Flint + 1 Stick |
| Iron | 250 | 3.5 | 1 Iron Ingot + 1 Stick |
| Gold | 32 | 2.0 | 1 Gold Ingot + 1 Stick |
| Diamond | 1561 | 5.5 | 1 Diamond + 1 Stick |
| Netherite | 2031 | 6.5 | Diamond Knife + Netherite Ingot (Smithing) |
Special Properties:
- Guaranteed Secondary Drops: Killing animals with a knife guarantees secondary drops (e.g., Leather from cows, Feathers from chickens).
- Straw Harvesting: Breaking grass, wheat, or rice with a knife yields Straw.
Skillet
The Skillet is a portable cooking tool. It can be placed on a heat source to cook up to 64 items of a single type, or held in the main hand while a heat source is nearby to cook items manually. It also functions as a heavy weapon with high knockback.
Workstations#
Cooking Pot
The centerpiece of the mod. It allows for the creation of complex stews and meals.
- Usage: Place over a heat source. Add up to 6 ingredients. Once cooking is complete, use a bowl (or glass bottle for drinks) to retrieve the meal.
- Automation: Supports Hoppers for input (sides/top) and output (bottom).
Stove
A dedicated kitchen block that acts as a permanent heat source without the danger of open fire.
- Cooking: Can cook up to 6 items on its surface simultaneously, similar to a campfire but faster.
- Safety: Does not set entities on fire, though it deals minor burn damage if stepped on.
Cutting Board
Used to process raw ingredients into smaller portions or different materials.
- Usage: Place an item on the board with your off-hand, then use a tool (usually a Knife) in your main hand to process it.
- Tool Compatibility:
- Knife: Slices vegetables and meats.
- Axe: Strips logs for Tree Bark.
- Pickaxe: Breaks bricks back into individual brick items.
- Shovel: Digs clay balls out of clay blocks.
Crops & Farming#
Farmer's Delight adds four primary crops, each with unique growth requirements.
| Crop | Seed | Growth Environment | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rice | Rice Seedlings | Shallow Water (1 block deep) | Harvested for Rice Panicles. |
| Tomato | Tomato Seeds | Farmland | Grows as a vine; can be supported by Rope to grow up to 3 blocks high. |
| Onion | Onion | Farmland | Harvested for multiple onions. |
| Cabbage | Cabbage Seeds | Farmland | Harvested for Cabbage heads. |
Rich Soil & Compost
Organic Compost is a block crafted from dirt, straw, and bone meal (or rotten flesh). When placed in the world, it slowly decomposes into Rich Soil.
- Decomposition: Speed is increased by nearby water, light, and mushrooms.
- Rich Soil: Acts as a permanent fertilizer. Crops planted on Rich Soil grow significantly faster and do not require water.
- Mushroom Colonies: Planting a mushroom on Rich Soil will eventually turn it into a Mushroom Colony, which can be harvested for multiple mushrooms.
World Generation#
Wild Crops
Wild variants of crops spawn naturally across the Overworld. Breaking them provides seeds to start your farm.
- Wild Rice: Found in Swamps and Rivers.
- Wild Tomatoes: Found in Deserts and Savannas.
- Wild Onions: Found in Plains and Forests.
- Wild Cabbage: Found on Beaches.
- Wild Beetroots/Carrots/Potatoes: Found in various temperate biomes.
Structures
- Village Houses: New kitchen-themed houses can spawn in villages, often containing Stoves, Cooking Pots, and Pantries filled with loot.
- Shipwrecks: May contain Rice or Cabbage seeds in supply chests.
Storage & Utility#
Storage Blocks
- Pantry: A wood-specific storage block that functions like a chest but fits a kitchen aesthetic.
- Cabinet: A wall-mounted storage unit.
- Basket: Collects items dropped into it from above. Can be waterlogged to direct item flow.
Utility Items
- Rope: A climbable item that can be deployed downwards by right-clicking the top rope. Used to support Tomato vines.
- Safety Net: Crafted from Rope. Negates all fall damage when landed upon.
- Canvas: Crafted from Straw. Used to make Baskets, Rugs, and Signs.
- Tatami Mats: Decorative flooring made from Straw and Canvas.
Food & Recipes#
The mod adds dozens of food items, categorized by their preparation method.
Ingredients
- Minced Beef / Chicken Cuts / Bacon: Obtained by processing raw meats on a Cutting Board.
- Tomato Sauce: Prepared in a Cooking Pot.
- Wheat Dough: A precursor to bread and pasta, made from wheat flour and water.
Meals (Cooking Pot Recipes)
- Soups & Stews: Vegetable Soup, Chicken Soup, Beef Stew, Fish Stew, Pumpkin Soup.
- Rice & Pasta: Fried Rice, Mushroom Rice, Pasta with Meatballs, Squid Ink Pasta.

- Crop Growth Rates: Modify how fast crops grow on standard vs. rich soil.
- World Gen: Enable or disable the spawning of wild crops and village structures.
- Knife Mechanics: Toggle whether knives should always drop secondary loot.
- Heat Sources: Add or remove blocks from the list of valid heat sources for the Cooking Pot and Stove via data packs or config tags.
