Overview#
Tinkers' Construct is a comprehensive overhaul of the Minecraft tool and weapon system. Instead of crafting static items, players assemble modular tools from various parts, each inheriting properties and traits from their component materials. The mod introduces advanced processing structures like the Smeltery and Foundry, unique slime-based biomes, and a deep modifier system that allows for near-infinite customization.
Key Features
- Modular Tools: Build tools like Pickaxes, Hammers, and Cleavers using specific parts (Heads, Handles, Bindings).
- Material Traits: Every material (Wood, Iron, Cobalt, etc.) provides unique passive bonuses.
- The Smeltery: A multi-block structure for melting ores into liquid metal and creating powerful alloys.
- Modifiers: Upgrade your tools with Haste, Luck, Sharpness, and more using dedicated slots.
- Slime Islands: Explore floating islands in the sky, nether, and end to find rare slime variants.
Getting Started#
To begin your journey, you must craft the introductory guide book: Materials and You. This is crafted by combining a regular Book with a Pattern or a piece of Grout.
Essential Early Blocks
- Crafting Station: An upgraded crafting table that keeps items in its grid and can access adjacent chests.
- Part Builder: Used to create tool parts from materials like Wood, Stone, and Flint using Patterns.
- Tinker Station: The primary block for assembling tools and applying modifiers.
- Tinker's Anvil: An upgraded version of the Tinker Station required for crafting "Broad" (advanced) tools.
Grout and Seared Bricks
To build a Smeltery, you need Seared Bricks. These are made by smelting Grout, which is crafted from Clay, Sand, and Gravel.
| Item | Recipe |
|---|---|
| Grout | 1 Clay Ball + 1 Sand + 1 Gravel |
| Seared Brick | Smelt Grout in a furnace |
| Seared Stone | 4 Seared Bricks in a 2x2 grid |
The Smeltery and Foundry#
The Smeltery is a multi-block structure used to melt metals and create alloys. The Foundry is a specialized alternative that provides byproducts but cannot alloy.
Smeltery Components
- Smeltery Controller: The heart of the structure. Requires molten copper to craft in TiC3.
- Seared Tank: Stores fuel (Lava or Blazing Blood).
- Seared Drain: Allows fluid to flow out via a Faucet.
- Casting Table: Used with Patterns/Casts to create tool parts or ingots.
- Casting Basin: Used to cast full blocks of metal.
Smeltery vs. Foundry
| Feature | Smeltery | Foundry |
|---|---|---|
| Blocks | Seared Blocks | Scorched Blocks |
| Alloying | Yes | No |
| Byproducts | No | Yes (e.g., Iron gives Nickel) |
| Capacity | Standard | High |
| Corners | Optional | Required (Filled) |
Materials and Tiers#
Materials are divided into tiers based on their rarity and the temperature required to melt them.
Tier 1: Basic Materials
- Wood: Ecological (Self-repairing).
- Stone: Cheapskate (Low durability, easy repair).
- Flint: Crude (Bonus damage to unarmored).
- Bone: Fractured (High damage, low durability).
Tier 2: Early Metals
- Iron: Magnetic (Pulls items toward player).
- Copper: Dwarven (Faster mining at lower Y-levels).
- Rose Gold: Enhanced (Provides an extra modifier slot).
- Slimewood: Overgrowth (High durability, slime-based).
Tier 3: Nether and Alloys
- Cobalt: Lightweight (Increased swing and mining speed).
- Slimesteel: Overcast (Increases Overslime capacity).
- Amethyst Bronze: Crumbling (Fast on soft blocks).
- Pig Iron: Tasty (Can be eaten for hunger).
Tier 4: End-Game Alloys
- Manyullyn: Insatiable (Damage increases as you fight).
- Hepatizon: Momentum (Mining speed increases the longer you mine).
- Queens Slime: Overlord (Massive Overslime capacity).
- Blaze Gold: Melding (High heat resistance).
Tools and Weapons#
Tools are categorized into Small Tools (Tinker Station) and Broad Tools (Tinker's Anvil).
Small Tools
- Pickaxe: Standard mining tool.
- Shovel: Standard digging tool.
- Axe: Standard wood-cutting and combat tool.
- Kama: Used for harvesting crops and shearing.
- Dagger: Fast, low-damage weapon; can be thrown.
- Sword: Standard melee weapon.
Broad Tools
- Sledge Hammer: Mines in a 3x3 area.
- Vein Hammer: Mines entire veins of ore.
- Excavator: Digs in a 3x3 area.
- Scythe: Clears plants and attacks in a wide AOE.
- Cleaver: Heavy weapon with high reach and beheading chance.
1.20.1 New Tools
- Melting Pan: A specialized mining tool that melts blocks directly into its internal tank.
- War Pick: A hybrid between a pickaxe and a crossbow, useful for versatile combat and mining.
Modifiers#
Modifiers are applied at the Tinker Station. They are split into Upgrades (blue slots) and Abilities (gold slots).
Popular Upgrades
- Haste (Redstone): Increases mining speed.
- Sharpness (Quartz): Increases attack damage.
- Luck (Lapis): Increases fortune/looting level.
- Reinforced (Obsidian): Chance to not consume durability.
- Diamond/Emerald: Increases base durability and mining level.
Powerful Abilities
- Silk Touch (Silky Cloth): Harvests blocks as they are.
- Mending (Mending Moss): Repairs tool using XP.
- Severing (Necrotic Bone): Increases head drop rate.
- Expanding (Piston): Increases reach or mining AOE.
Slime Islands and Mobs#
Slime Islands are unique biomes floating in the sky or found in the Nether and End.
Island Types
- Sky Slime (Blue): Found in the Overworld sky. Home to Blue Slimes and Skyroot trees.
- Earth Slime (Green): Found in Overworld oceans. Contains Greenheart trees.
- Blood Slime (Red): Found in the Nether lava oceans. Home to Bloodshroom trees.
- Ender Slime (Purple): Found in the End. Home to Enderslimes and Enderbark trees.
- Clay Island: Rare Overworld variant containing Terracubes.
Mobs
- Sky Slime: Bouncy blue slimes that drop Sky Slimeballs.
- Ender Slime: Teleporting purple slimes found in the End.
- Terracube: Clay-based slimes that drop clay and sand.
- King Slime: A massive boss slime that can be summoned using a Slime Sigil on a Slime Island.
Mechanics#
Overslime
A secondary durability bar that sits on top of your tool's base durability. It is restored using Slime Crystals or Slimeballs. Tools with the Overcast or Overlord traits have significantly higher Overslime capacity.
Alloying
When multiple molten fluids are in the same Smeltery, they may combine into an alloy.
- Manyullyn: 1 Molten Cobalt + 1 Molten Debris.
- Hepatizon: 2 Molten Copper + 1 Molten Cobalt + 1 Molten Obsidian.
- Rose Gold: 3 Molten Copper + 1 Molten Gold.
Tool Repair
Tools do not disappear when they reach 0 durability; they become "Broken." They can be repaired at a Tinker Station using the primary material of the tool head.
Commands#
Tinkers' Construct includes several administrative and debug commands:
/tconstruct material_stats: Displays stats for all registered materials./tconstruct modifier_usage: Shows which tools are using specific modifiers./tconstruct slots: Manually adjust the number of modifier slots on a held tool./mantle dump_tag: Dumps information about item/block tags to the console for debugging.
