Overview#

Future MC is designed to bring the modern Minecraft experience to older versions of the game, specifically 1.12.2 and 1.15.2. It meticulously backports features from versions 1.13 (Update Aquatic), 1.14 (Village & Pillage), 1.15 (Buzzy Bees), and 1.16 (Nether Update). This mod allows players to enjoy new mechanics like the Smithing Table, new mobs like Bees and Pandas, and powerful endgame gear like Netherite without leaving their favorite modded environments.

The mod is highly configurable, allowing server owners and players to toggle specific features to maintain compatibility with other mods or to tailor the gameplay experience to their liking.

Mobs#

Future MC introduces several iconic mobs from later versions, complete with their unique behaviors, AI, and drop tables.

Bee

  • Health: 10 (5 hearts)
  • Behavior: Neutral. Bees will attack in a swarm if one is hit or if their hive is harvested without a campfire. When they sting, they lose their stinger and eventually die.
  • Spawning: Bees spawn near Bee Nests in Plains, Sunflower Plains, and Flower Forest biomes.
  • Mechanics: They pollinate flowers and return to their hives to produce honey. They can be bred using any flower.

Panda

  • Health: 20 (10 hearts)
  • Behavior: Neutral. Pandas have different personalities: Normal, Lazy, Worried, Playful, Aggressive, Weak, and Brown.
  • Spawning: Bamboo Jungles.
  • Drops: Bamboo.
  • Mechanics: They can be bred with Bamboo, but only if there are at least 8 bamboo blocks within a 5-block radius.

Turtle

  • Health: 30 (15 hearts)
  • Behavior: Passive. They move slowly on land but swim quickly in water.
  • Spawning: Sandy beaches.
  • Drops: Seagrass. Baby turtles drop Scutes when they grow into adults.
  • Mechanics: Turtles return to their home beach to lay eggs on sand.

Phantom

  • Health: 20 (10 hearts)
  • Behavior: Hostile. They spawn in the sky if the player has not slept for 3 or more in-game days.
  • Drops: Phantom Membrane (used for repairing Elytra and brewing Slow Falling potions).

Fox

  • Health: 10 (5 hearts)
  • Behavior: Passive. They are nocturnal and often sleep during the day. They can hold items in their mouths.
  • Variants: Red Fox (Taiga) and Snow Fox (Snowy Taiga).
  • Drops: Whatever item they are holding.

Blocks#

The mod adds a vast array of functional and decorative blocks that redefine the crafting and building experience.

Functional Blocks

Block Function
Blast Furnace Smelts ores and metal tools twice as fast as a regular furnace but uses fuel at twice the rate.
Smoker Cooks food items twice as fast as a regular furnace.
Grindstone Used to repair items and remove non-curse enchantments, returning a portion of the XP.
Stonecutter Provides a more efficient way to craft stone-related blocks (e.g., 1 stone = 1 stair).
Loom Provides a dedicated GUI for applying patterns to banners using dyes and banner patterns.
Barrel A storage block that does not require air space above it to open, functioning like a chest.
Composter Converts organic matter (food, plants) into Bone Meal.
Smithing Table Used to upgrade Diamond equipment into Netherite equipment using a Netherite Ingot.
Bee Nest / Hive Houses bees and collects honey. Can be harvested for Honey Bottles or Honeycomb.

Decorative & Natural Blocks

  • Lanterns: Available in standard and Soul variants. They provide high light levels and can be hung or placed.
  • Campfires: Available in standard and Soul variants. They can cook up to 4 food items simultaneously without fuel and emit smoke particles.
  • Bamboo: Grows rapidly in Jungle biomes; used for scaffolding and panda breeding.
  • Sweet Berry Bush: Found in Taiga biomes. Provides Sweet Berries but slows and damages entities that walk through it.
  • Blue Ice: A very slippery block found in icebergs, crafted from Packed Ice.
  • Ancient Debris: Rare ore found in the Nether at low altitudes. It is blast-resistant and used to create Netherite.
  • Crying Obsidian: A variant of obsidian that emits purple particles and is used to craft Respawn Anchors (if enabled).

Items#

Future MC introduces the powerful Netherite tier and several utility items from modern versions.

Netherite Equipment

Netherite is the new top-tier material, surpassing Diamond in durability, enchantability, and protection. Netherite items do not burn in lava.

  • Netherite Ingot: Crafted from 4 Netherite Scrap and 4 Gold Ingots.
  • Netherite Tools/Armor: Created by combining a Diamond tool/armor piece with a Netherite Ingot in a Smithing Table.

Combat & Utility

  • Trident: A versatile weapon for melee or ranged combat. It can be enchanted with Loyalty, Riptide, and Channeling.
  • Crossbow: A powerful ranged weapon that takes longer to load than a bow but deals more damage and can fire fireworks or multiple arrows with enchantments.
  • Honey Bottle: Consumable that restores hunger and removes the Poison effect.
  • Honeycomb: Obtained by shearing a full Bee Hive; used to craft Honeycomb Blocks or Bee Hives.
  • Suspicious Stew: Crafted with flowers; provides a brief status effect based on the flower used.
  • Phantom Membrane: Used to repair Elytra and brew Potions of Slow Falling.

Mechanics#

Smithing System

In Future MC, the Smithing Table is fully functional. To upgrade gear, place a Diamond tool or armor piece in the first slot and a Netherite Ingot in the second. This process preserves the enchantments and durability of the original item.

Grinding and Disenchanting

The Grindstone allows players to strip enchantments from items. This is useful for recycling gear found in loot chests. Curses (like Curse of Binding) cannot be removed.

Composting

Players can right-click the Composter with various plant-based items. Each item has a specific percentage chance to raise the compost level. Once the Composter is full, right-clicking it again yields one Bone Meal.

Swimming

The mod backports the 1.13 swimming mechanic (in the 1.12.2 version), allowing players to "sprint" underwater to enter a horizontal swimming animation, which increases movement speed and allows passage through 1-block high gaps.

CraftTweaker Integration#

Future MC provides extensive support for CraftTweaker, allowing modpack creators to customize recipes for the new machines.

Blast Furnace

Configuration#

The mod includes a robust configuration file (futuremc.cfg) that allows players to enable or disable almost every feature individually. Key configuration categories include:

  • General: Toggle the entire mod or specific version backports (e.g., disable all 1.16 features).
  • Mobs: Enable/disable specific mobs like Phantoms or Bees and adjust their spawn rates.
  • Blocks: Toggle individual blocks like the Stonecutter or Lanterns.
  • Items: Enable/disable Netherite or the Trident.
  • World Gen: Control the generation of Bamboo, Sweet Berry Bushes, and Ancient Debris.

This level of control ensures that Future MC can fit into any modpack without causing balance issues or redundant features.
